Phoenixpower -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/6/2011 7:42:31 AM)

Some of my cats were getting quite loud in the garden...because of which I remembered that curry is still locked in the cellar and let him out (he followed me and I prefer to make sure he wants to come out of there soon again himself, which he does when I shut the door, than the others all following him...)

I checked and was about to go down the stairs into the garden but just doing the first step was enough that it stopped...seems spicy was shouting with either one of my parents cats or even with pepper...cause pepper then came upstairs and sputnik soon later...

anyhow, seems that spicy boy is getting a bit overconfident here now with trying to take over this place [8|]

Pepper did eat one of those massive grasshoppers (it has been as long as my index finger and lemme tell ya, I regularly get told to have looooong fingers...)

First time I removed it safely, as I took her away and locked her into the kitchen until I had taken it off the property...

but she found it again and once I was about to remove it again she became drastic and eat it [:o]

Now we are at 3 birds and one grasshopper in the last 3 weeks [:o] and thats just the ones I know, doesn't mean that my parents cats still didn't potentially do some more in that respect [:o]

Yeah, I know....so much about keeping cats inside [:o]

I start to consider giving my cats a little bell on a collar now, as mums cat sputnik got...well, sputnik only got it as Baghira refused to take it, cause originally it was meant for Baghira who is the bigger hunter of those two...anyhow...its a bit of a shame when they are actively hunting like that...even when it is part of their nature [:o]

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/6/2011 3:52:01 PM)

I love that cats are carnivores. I'm always impressed by their hunting. I had a Siamese cat who had a litter of 7 kittens when we lived out in the country. When the kittens were old enough, she started hunting & bringing home all sorts of game for them. She would stand at the door & meow with the kill in her mouth. Then she figured out that meowing with her mouth full was a dead giveaway that she was trying to get in with a critter, so she to drop it on the porch to meow & pick it up quickly to dart inside with it. LOL The day she brought home a big jackrabbit was the capper.

The females are the best hunters, so if you don't want a hunter, get a male. And be sure to feed them high-protein foods without grains, because they are carnivores, not omnivores. The no carb foods tend to keep them slimmer & decrease that desire to hunt.

Perhaps you can hire the dogwhisperer? Although you then pay for his usual advice to take the dogs every day for a forty or forty-five minutes walk. Or to put them on a treadmill for that time.

Since I'm having chicken, it goes without saying that they're here, begging for their tidbits.

I agree on female cats.

And my guys LOOOOVE to lick my ice cream bowls clean!  Strawberry and maple walnut seem to be the favorite flavors....not to impressed with the peppermint stick!

Urmel is also happy to *cough* help out *cough*

Summer decided to rearrange my parents sideboard with throwing down two bookends (one fell apart but can be fixed as it is wood) as well as a candle holder which...ahem...wasn't made with wood...anyhow, that one was mine, so won't be missed by parents in their inventory [8|]

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/7/2011 4:42:38 PM)

Misty was a very good girl this morning. I had an early morning dental appt. and set the alarm for 5:30 A.M. I turned off the alarm and almost went back to sleep, but she slapped me in the face with her paw. I think she knows when I set the alarm for an unusual time that it's important and she'd better not let me go back to sleep.

They both love it when I don't put the laundry away right away. They're taking turns sitting on top of it.
