awwwww....what a great pic!  Makes me just want to grab her little head and smother her with kisses!

Yeah, mine aren't too thrilled when I sneak up on 'em like that either....but it can be fun!  So far, no one's ever tried to take out an eye.......but I do get a glare ot three.

I have 3 litter boxes, so I scoop every few days.  The recommended amount of boxes is one for each kitteh, and one more, but 5 boxes would be too many to have to keep track of, and I keep the smell under control, but eventually, there's got to be a point whree it's just too many boxes.  I use baking soda in the litter, and those fragrance plug ins....Febreze ones are the best, so there's really no odor issue.

I guess I need to go get another litter box because I hate this!!! I've not had more than one indoor cat before. I guess I didn't realize. Sometimes I can be such a dummy poopoohead!!!

NuevaVida -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/29/2011 2:27:33 PM)

There's also litter for "multiple cats" you can try, but yeah I've heard one box per cat, although I've known people who only have one box for 2 cats.

I scoop daily and have a plug-in air freshener. It's rare for me to ever smell the box. The type of litter used makes a big difference, too.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/29/2011 2:38:59 PM)

I get the multiple cat litter. If I don't scoop at least twice a day, it gets out of control. So I will get another box & see if they will use both. I really hate a dirty litter box.

Hi Greedy - yes, I realize.  As I often have troubles with my computer, and others have mentioned the same on theirs, out of courtesy, I post the link embedded within a sentence and also as a copy and paste.  I know too well the frustration of someone saying - look at this ... it's so cool! - and then being left out of being able to see it because there was not copy and paste link.  I also know what it's like to not be able to copy and paste and only be able to do very minor things on the computer.  Just trying to be helpful to everybody.

Off to buy some Petromalt for poor Angel. Even though I brush her and feed her hairball control cat food, she had a dry hacking cough today, like she was trying to dislodge a hairball.

pahunkboy -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/29/2011 5:00:14 PM)

Hell yeah!  Buy another cat.

soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/29/2011 10:17:43 PM)

Linnea, believe it or not, the Special Kitty litter in the orange box at walmart is better at odor control than the big name brands.  It has a citrus additive that holds down the odor.  You can buy the additive, too.....it's with the other ones in the cat section....white bottle, called citrus something or other.  But I found the huge bags of baking soda in the pool section of WM, for less than 7 bucks, it's good for 2 weeks of odor control in the boxes.  It's probably due to the type of food they eat, but it's the ammonia that is the worst in the boxes.  They drink plenty of water, so I know it's not a health problem on their part.

And on the subject of scooping, can someone explain to me why the boxes have curved corners, and the scoops have square ones??????  Makes getting the stuff out of the corners difficult!  Of course, if I could potty train my kittehs, boxes would be obsolete.  {sigh}

Mystic, I comb mine out, feed then the hairball control food, and they still get hairballs.  The best food I've found tho has been the Iams in the turqoiuse bag....I think it's weight control and hairball control.  And all of the kittehs eat it, even the rotten KB.  If yours will eat it, give it a try.  It's got smaller pellets than the other hairball food I've gotten, and I think that's why they like it.

Yep, that's what I'm feeding them. I have always found that all of my cats have liked Iams, even the picky eaters. It seems to have helped Misty quite a bit. Angel seemed to be doing well, too, until I heard her dry-hacking today. I got her the Petromalt and gave her a dose tonight, which she wasn't completely thrilled with. Misty saw me giving Angel the Petromalt and got really jealous because she thought Angel was getting a treat and she wasn't. So I offered Misty a little Petromalt, and she had a look of complete revulsion, LOL.

Maggie is sitting in my livingroom window supervising the guys doing road work and making sure the birds don't come in.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/30/2011 12:52:46 PM)

I have the 2 cat beds on the floor next to each other & lately Pookie's been sleeping in the one & Booga in the other. This morning, Booga got up from his, went off & did something, came back & made Pookie share his bed. These cats are over 20 lbs each so it was hilariously cute to see them squeeze into the one bed together. If I hadn't been in such a hurry, I would have taken pics. Now I have no idea where either of them are.

Booga likes to drink out of the far side of the water dish. Silly cat!!

The Petromalt is difficult to locate around here for some reason.  When I'm lucky, I can find it at PetSmart.  That they will lick right out of the tube.  Otherwise, it's the salmon flavored stuff.  And I have to really stick it into their fur, or it flies off in  drips that I find later on the rugs, the bed, the couch....whereever it was thay they ran off to.

I have better luck with the Iams food....I rarely find any gacked up hairballs when they are getting that.

The Iams food and brushing seem to be working for Misty....but not Angel for some reason. Maybe because her fur is so dense and/or she grooms so incessantly. I haven't found any hairballs, but she got the "dry hacks" like she was trying to cough one up. Fortunately, Angel likes Petromalt and will lick it off my fingers. Misty, on the other hand, hates the stuff. I'm glad the one who needs it is the one who likes it.

Smooch is sitting facing the wall behind me, staring up the wall at nothing....well, I don't see anything anyway, and he's just-a talkin' away!  Everyone else is playing rug w/their little full bellies.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/31/2011 8:41:38 PM)

A new, cute striped cat has been sitting under the tree in my front yard. I hope s/he has not been abandoned and and is not planning to adopt me (that's how I got the two cats I have now, as well as a "foster" cat who nows lives with my neighbor).

The Petromalt is working wonders with Angel. Her dry hacking as stopped.

I ordered two new dining room chairs, which arrived in large boxes. Misty is enjoying scratching the boxes. Annoying, but at least it entertains her.

LinnaeaBorealis -> RE: What is your cat doing? (8/31/2011 9:46:15 PM)

I finally got all of the mats out of Booga's fur. Every time I run the brush through his fur, I still get handfuls of hair out of him. I've started working on Pookie now. He's not all that happy about it. Oh well. I will get on top of this cat hair problem!!!

I got another cat box & I also got some new kitty litter that says it's for "small spaces". Since I live in just the one room, essentially, I thought that might help. I wish there was enough room in the bathroom for a cat box but there isn't, so we are stuck with it out here in *The Room*.

My Siamese is trying to move across my keyboard, all slow-mo and stealth-like, as if I won't see her if she moves really, really slowly and crouches her head down.

Begging for tidbits from my turkey sandwich....(successfully, I might add)

soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (9/2/2011 12:19:36 AM)

My boys are in one big kitteh pile asleep on the floor, and Squeaks is in her usual position...on her back, legs in the air, belly towards the fan.  I hate that they can fall asleep so easily!  Me, I'm still up staring at the ceiling.......
