soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/15/2011 7:41:01 PM)

Emerald, try this.....Wal-mart and all of the big chain pet stores have these corrugated cardboard scratchers in purple boxes.  They come in two sizes, small and big.  I get them for mine, and they absolutely LOVE them!   They leave the furniture alone, and they are also catnip friendly......

Declawing a cat is the equivalent of ripping your nail out from the root, and taking the tip off down to the first knuckle.   For anyone whose ever ripped a fake fingernail off, or worse, a real one, imagine that pain x 25, and no way to make the pain go away.  And that is the exact fate I wish upon anyone who does this to a poor cat.  Cats scratch, deal with it.......if your furniture is more precious, then find the kitteh a home where his owner won't do that to him.

Sorry, as you might guess, it's a sore point with me.

Am I glad that in the Netherlands, de-clawing is prohibited by law.
So is tail-clipping for esthetic reasons and cutting ears. (at dogs)

The only thing they should do still, is making it a crime with jailtime, in stead off a misdemeanor with only a fine.But......
we're working on it.

Nowadays our parliament is busy to make a law, to chip every dog, within 7 weeks of it's birth. This to prevent illegal import and mass breeding.

well i have decided against the declawing and well i have bought her those purple box ones before and she didnt really pay it much mind. the one that i had her was a curvy play thingy that had a scratchy section and carpet on both sides. then under the one curve had a dangle toy. she didnt much mind the dangle toy but loved laying on it and using it to scratch so now i gotta find it for her again or get her another one.

Maggie completely ignored them and is possibly the only cat who doesn't like catnip. In fact the only thing that worked was giving her an old rug of my mom's which she scratches endlessly. Go figure.

EmeraldsPheonix -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 9:01:34 AM)

yea i think thats what happened with mystic. Fire, i got that chair that i use to study and its like the only piece of furnature she scratches on so yea.

GreedyTop -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 9:33:45 AM)

my cats are atypical as well...catnip? sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. (not so atypical as I would have thought, judging by the posts here).. Em.. get several textured throw away things that you can find (carpet store: ask them if you can have the remnants that theyre gonna toss.. dont tell them its for the cats.. tell them it's cause you're short on money, but need to recarpet a small area. if they think there is a chance that can sell even a small bit of a seriously undesired bit of carpet....), home depot/lowes/etc.. the bits they cut off for custom jobs,, ask for the scraps. tel them it's for a student art project using a dremel or something...

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 9:35:57 AM)

Yeah it's not surprising, she's got her scent on it now by scratching it. If the chair isn't an expensive one I suggest detaching the part she scratches and nailing it to something sturdy.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 9:44:11 AM)

Angel begged to go out, but only stayed out an hour or so. I was surprised because it's such a beautiful day and her bothersome "boyfriend" wasn't even in the yard. Misty is here in the office, keeping me company while I take some online practice exams for my upcoming test.

i will keep this in mind in a note pad so that i might use that at some point in time. it is nice since i have a dom depot and lowes near by to use for that [:D]

LOL thats quite odd for angel too unless where she roamed around to she found him and decided it was time to come in LOL. Misty is always like that with you and i get to look forward to mystic starting that tommorow over my head cuz classes start up for another 12 weeks BLECH. Good luck on your tests.

that's okay, the point is that she has her scent on it so it's less likely that she will scratch something else.

HEY MONKEY! horrible thought: Cashie and Maggie together. <shudders>

EmeraldsPheonix -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 11:04:48 AM)

yep and like you from what i have heard of both cashie and maggies antics i would have to shudder to think if not only them together if we added my puppy blondie which loves to play with Kittehs and well if mystic was more friendly to other kittehs being around i would hate to see what massacre of antics we would see LOL

GreedyTop -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 11:10:36 AM)

hate to say it, but cashie would SO shred Blondie.. DOGS do NOT exist in his world.. LOL othr than in a random ICKYSCRATCHCLAWMAKEITGOAWAY mode..

TheFireWithinMe -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 11:15:10 AM)

So would Maggie - or so I assume. She hisses if she smells dog on my clothes so I imagine live and in person (so to speak) wouldn't be much better.

Good luck on your new classes! I will be SO glad when my ceritification exam is over on 10/26. However, I may sign up for another one in December, if I can get 2 days off from work for the mandatory 2-day offsite class required before taking that certification exam.

smartsub10 -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 1:54:08 PM)

Cecil, my blind cat, is sitting by the open door to the balcony and appears to be "looking" out.  I wonder why he likes to sit there since he can't see a thing.  Maybe it's the cool breeze or smells he's enjoying.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 2:46:34 PM)

They both received some Crave Chicka Chicka Boom Boom treats for being good girls today. Angel did not engage in any annoying (to Misty) behavior today and they didn't have a single squabble.

EmeraldsPheonix -> RE: What is your cat doing? (10/16/2011 2:48:00 PM)

good luck and well i hope you can expand that certification.

We have a new 6 week old male kitteh member added to the family. Mystic is not happy and is hiding under a chair after cornering shadow between some tubs.

hes a little cutie and as soon as i can ill get a pic of him up.
