Cashie is way too interested in the cardboard currently covering the window I just broke.

Old Pearl's driving me nuts. I lay in bed w/the computer on my abdomen, and type away. Pearl, in trying to show how much she loves me, parks her carcass really, really close to me, and lays down, with her head near my elbow. She's so close that her whisker's touch said elbow, so I'm always getting tickled, and each time I move my arm to type, she gets awakened and disturbed. After all these years you'd think she would have figured out this position doesn't work well for either of us. Guess not. Simultaneously endearing and annoying.

Ah, critters...can't live with them, can't live without them.

I know what you mean. After 16 years, Misty still insists on sleeping on my outer thigh while I sleep on my side, near the edge of the bed. I'm a fitful sleeper and am sure I've thrown her off the bed hundreds of times, but that doesn't dissuade her in the least. When my kitty Amanda was alive, the two of them would vie for that position the moment I lay down. I don't know what's fun about being tossed off the bed, but neither seemed to mind it.

Lily never cared to sleep there. Angel has tried, but she's such a big kitty she really doesn't fit well there.

Duskypearls -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/25/2012 6:32:03 PM)

That's funny about the cat getting tossed off the bed, Mystic.

Pearl's a bit depth perception challenged in other ways. More often than not, from the git go (she's probably about 11 yrs old now), she poops outside the box. Never pee, mind you, only poop.

The other silly thing she does that is not great for her old bones and osteophytic cervical disc/nerve issue, is when she plops down beside me on the bed, she loves me to rub her tummy. Only problem is, she's a wee bit too close to the bed edge, so when she rolls over nearly onto her back for a rub, more frequently than I or her aged body would like, she takes a hard, twisty-turny tumble dive off the bed. She NEVER seems to learn. Go figure!

I'm afraid to look.....I left a closet door open in the living room, and as I speak, I can hear things being "relocated" inside said closet. As long as there's no crash, all is good.

MysticFireTopaz -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/27/2012 9:18:58 PM)

Angel spent a couple of hours outdoors, so I would have thought she'd be pooped out from chasing things. Instead, she's hyped up and running around the house like a maniac. Wish I had that much energy!

I'm getting the death glare from KB, who is sitting right next to me here. I came in from taking out the recycling, and he seems to think my "return" calls for gooshy food. I'm hoping if I ignore him long enough, he'll go away......

I've been hoping that for the last 12 years......he's still here!

Each of my flanks are being lovingly warmed by both kitties. Thank Heaven's for feline heating pads!

I pick up my darling baby Ruby this weekend. I can't wait to have her back with me. [sm=hearts.gif]

The kitties are thrilled because I was carrying some boxes in, left the door propped open for a couple of minutes, and a couple of bugs got in the house. They're in seventh heaven, having something to chase.

ShaharThorne -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/29/2012 7:21:13 AM)

Mr. Whiskers (the stray cat) was waiting for me to give him some food this morning. Had some gravy from a nighthawk dinner ready for him.

Since he has been around, we had no problems with mice getting in.

GreedyTop -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/29/2012 8:01:15 AM)

CAshie has found a way to get on top of the fridge, and the cabinet next to it.

I have since sprayed the surfaces with that stuff that keeps him from clawing the furniture.

soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/29/2012 9:21:35 AM)

awwwww, Greedy, taking his play space away......bummer!

KB and Squeaks constantly climb on the fridge. They can open the cupboard doors and then they get in and run around in the cupboards. They are huge, the top shelf is completely vacant...I'm too short to reach them....and they can goof off in there. Squeaks likes to sleep in the cabinet above the fridge because no one bothers her there. KB thinks it's cool to run around in them. My neighbor must sometimes wonder what the heck is going on when he's in his mood and racing around in the cupboards......he's not the most quietest then!

Angie is snoozing, as usual. Blood work from the vets from yesterday shows that she is in kidney failure. She is only five years old. They have enough serum left to test for leukemia. She is going in on Saturday for an Ultrasound. They are having a clinic to learn a new machine, so it is half price because they are using the pets as test subjects, in a way. They know how to read the ultrasound - it is just learning the new machine. We also have to somehow try to figure out how to get a urine sample, without them using a catheter. Yeah.

My dear, my condolences regarding the kidney failure. This has become quite common nowadays. Do you know what stage she is in? Have you got bloodwork results in yet; BUN, Creatinine, Phosphorus, etc.? Have you modified her diet to be CRF friendly?

One must learn a lot to deal with CRF (Chronic Renail Failure) kitties, as they're a whole different ball of wax. May I suggest you look into this Yahoo group that specializes in this?

[email protected]

It is FULL of many people who have, or have had CRF kitties, and several Veterinarians who give their opinions, experiences, and test/treatment suggestions. They're a generous bunch, and can be very helpful.

As for getting a non-cath urine sample, keep a soup spoon or ladle near the litter box. When kitty goes in, simply gently insert it under her and collect urine.

You can also pick up special non-absorbing black granules (forget the name) from Vets, that's put in place of litter in the box. Kitty pees in it, you pour it off and strain out the black granule-like things. Remember to try to get the first early morning catch, if you have a choice, and keep it covered and refridgerated until you get it to the Vet.

Barring that, they can do a cystocentesis, where they insert a small gauge needle (attached to syringe) into bladder, and draw up what they need. This method provides the "cleanest," most bacteria free urine, unless of course the cat already has a lower or upper urinary tract, or kidney infection, which can happen with CRF kitties.

Good luck.

yourdarkdesire -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/29/2012 9:21:37 PM)

Thanks DP. Her BUN is 22 (top of range is 11). Her creatinine is 402 (top 186). Her RBCs are down. Her thyroid is normal. The FLV came back negative. I have had kidney failure kitties before - it is just that she is so young. I pick up the k/d food for her tomorrow, as well as the special sand litter for the urine test.

I don't know what stage she is in, but it is early. The pronounced weight loss has been since the end of January. We have been negligent - partly money - partly because she is an indoor kitty - and haven't been to the vets in 3 years. Then she weighed 5.9kg. Wednesday she was down to 4.7.

After some discussion about treatments, if anything, we have decided to go straight to compassionate care.

soul2share -> RE: What is your cat doing? (3/30/2012 8:24:23 PM)

I called home this am to check in, and Mom said they had to put Tabby down due to stomach cancer on Monday. The whole house is mourning, Lacey, Tabby's sister, and Jade, the dog, have been looking for him all week, Lacey keeps calling for him. Mom and Dad are heartbroken too......Tabby was Dad's buddy. It hit and spread so fast there was no way to catch it. He lost 7 pounds in 5 days, that's how they found it. Mom thought about chemo and stuff, but she knew the quality of his life wouldn't be the same, and she didn't want to put him thru that kind of pain and stress. They had him cremated, and they'd brought him home a bit before I called. It tore her up just talking about it, and it was all I could do not to cry for them all. Tabby was only 9. I think what's making it even harder is seeing the other two furbabies mourn. Mom and Dad have never had multiple pets like they have w/Tabby, Lacey and Jade, and they are surprised. It kills Mom to hear Lacey calling for his brother....shes walking all over the house, checking his hideyholes and not finding him. RIght now, Mom said they are just giving the other 2 extra loving and comfort to help them thru this.

{sigh} I haz a sad......[:(]
