Well, here's my advice, for whatever it's worth. We'll call it "Michelle's Five Step Program". I goes as follows... 1.) Pick a day to quit... and appoint a sober babysitter (for yourself, not your kids). 2.) The day before that day, smoke as many cigarettes as your lungs can handle without immediate collapse. 3.) Also, buy a fifth of whiskey, a fifth of vodka, and a case of beer. 4.) At about noon on the day before you quit, begin to drink as though you're an alcoholic at happy hour. 5.) Keep this up until either all cigarettes and alcohol are gone, or you're near passing out. If you're not sick yet, have your sober buddy go pick up refills and keep going until you know you're going to ralph the whole next day. If you are sick at this point, have your buddy toss whatever is left over and help you to your bed. It's advisable for them to bring your a huge bottle of water, a puke bucket, and an entire bottle of aspirin. With all that in your system you ought to be disgustingly sick the whole next day. Your only thoughts of smoking will probably make you hurk in the trash can. Actually, you'll probably be pretty sick for a couple of days, but those are the worst. It's along the same line as the "bang me in the toe so I forget about my headache" routine. If it makes you feel better, it gets noticeably easier after the first week, and a hell of a lot easier after the second. Those first two weeks are the worst, but it's worth it. Make sure you have lots of things to chew on and good luck! P.S.- One of the things that helped me when I cut down a year ago was that I got deathly ill. I caught some particularly violent flu, complete with fever so high I hallucinated. I smoked roughly two cigarettes that week and they made me even sicker. After that the desire just wasn't there. I know that it's a particularly nasty way to do it, and I don't wish illness upon you, but if you happen to get a little bug, take the opportunity to kick the habit. You probably won't get a better chance.
