It was for his role in the Vietnam peace accords.

The committee likes nominees who believe in talks.

Apparently, even more than secret bombings in Cambodia.

Sorry Mike....the mind-meld function on my Internet connection doesn't work properly, so I can only go by what you type.

You're on your own with the dope. I had enough trouble with alcohol.

Mike, this sounds like a business opportunity! I should get busy makin' me a sign for the front lawn.
"Popeye's Nobel Peace Prize Awards"
"Three for $10"
("And you don't even have to do anything to get one!")

Man, Saturday Night Live was all over this last night! They said Obama was awarded the prize, "for not being George Bush." lolol

Look at all the Big Corporations he's bailed out using our Taxdollars!

OK, let's look at them.

AIG?  No, that was Bush.

Wells Fargo, Citibank, JP Chase Morgan, Bank of America?  Nope, Bush again.

GM, Chrysler?  Ooops,  Bush again.  Congress wouldn't approve it so Bush used TARP funds.  Though Obama did extend additional funding.

Morning,

Congrats Mr. President.

I do have an interesting question about the award. Are there any laws on the books now, that relate to an elected official receiving money from a foreign organization based on their actions and or possible future actions? Could such money be seen as a possible bribe for favors already rendered or for future favors? Just somefin to think about, no?

I wish you well,
Thadius

To avoid any conflict, Obama will most likely have any and all cash prizes/awards sent directly to charity.

Personally, I'd have more respect for Obama if he'd turned down the award and ask everyone to wait untill his term/terms are over before having any schools, streets, etc, named after him.

Chinese dissidents let down by Obama Nobel

China's dissidents are voicing unease about President Barack Obama's Nobel Peace Prize, saying that the award could have been effective in promoting human rights in their country.

Some in China's democracy movement are outraged at what they see as a weak stance on rights by Obama, who the same week as Friday's announcement avoided a meeting with Tibet's exiled Dalai Lama that would have upset Beijing.

Chinese activists had been tipped as Nobel contenders on this year of anniversaries, when China marked 60 years of communist rule, 50 years since the Dalai Lama's flight and 20 years since the crushing of the Tiananmen Square democracy uprising.

Potential laureates included Hu Jia, locked up since December 2007 after exposing government abuses and the plight of China's AIDS sufferers, and Wei Jingsheng, a onetime electrician who spent 18 years in prison after brazenly challenging former leader Deng Xiaoping to bring democracy.

So Sanity, let me ask.

Based on your deep concern for human rights violations in China, would you support a ban on any trade activity with China?

Ban all Chinese imports and make it illegal for any US company to do business in China?

Since you have invited us to draw our own conclusions, Sanity, I will do just that. I think you posted the article to show that you felt that Obama is showing justifiable restraint in not overextending the country into another's conflicts. I think you are proud and happy that the Obama administration realized that, no matter how distasteful their actions, right now is not a good time to get into a pissing contest with China. It seems that you have, despite your moderate and reasonable disagreement with a few of Obama's policies, decided to support him on this issue and wanted everyone to know it. It is a truly impressive display of your non-partisan spirit and we all appreciate it.

I dont think i can criticize them either. They were faced with Bush. For all his faults, i dont think Bush had a choice in his actions right after 9/11. Certainly no one else was offering solutions

After 8 years of Bush, Obama must seem like a breath of fresh air. Sadly, they havent allowed his administration time to breathe yet.

Promises and ideals are a great beginning. They should have waited to see what fruit his ideals could bare.

Bush had a choice. He chose Iraq. Obama has a choice. He chooses Afganastan 9 years late and after al queda has moved on. More dead American men and women on the far, barren outposts of empire. The Gen. Petreas CounterInsurgency Handbook ratio of troops needed to protect population suggests by the math that we will need 600,000 pairs of boots on the ground. No clear purpose. No goal. No exit strategy. Another woeful blunder. FUK!! Obama should be the co-recipient with Bush for the LBJ prize for stupid presidential wars. When will we learn to stop making WAR? Time to bring home all the troops.

Whil you are entitled to your opinions, i have to wonder what is keeping him from making such a decision. he knows how unpopular the war there is.... yet... do we really want a president who worries about winning a popularity contest?

I beg to differ, Spinner.

The article clearly shows that the Chinese regime is corrupt and anti-democratic, and therefore we must immediately push for regime change, and launch a war of "shock and awe" to liberate the 1.3 Billion Chinese, bringing democracy and freedom to them.
We will be greeted as liberators, as we were in Iraq. Of course, the usual pussies and leftard wimps will oppose this war, but we need a President who is unafraid, who is willing to walk across a flight deck wearing a Halloween costume and show the world how tough he is.
