My x used to put the seasoning strait on the noddles, not in the water.[:D]

Whatever comes out of my crock pot [:D] BBQ pulled pork is a favourite, both inexpensive and easy!

I'll third the vote for ramen noodles. Toss the flavor pack, add some meat and veggies, and off you go!

When he lived at the trailer park in Rohnert park and came to visit we often sent him home with box loads of garden goods for him, for his neighbors and for any one else who could use some.  Our other neighbors also shared what they had and didn't want, and I got a bunch of books for free cause they had some to give away:)

I used to microwave the whole zuchiini and just eat it warm from the microwave lol.  It's good, and of course you can steam it in a pan, and if you really like it you can eat it raw.\

Shredded zuchhini (sp?) - 1 lb. fits perfectly in a small zip-loc bag. AND makes a nice, neat stack in freezer.  Added to spagettihi (sp?) sauce A) streches it and B) makes it more healthy and C) is undetectable for the kids or the Daddy who is a meat-n-potato man.  One time I added it,  ate it, and said "I should've added some."  Didn't think I did till I saw empty zip-loc.

You can parbroil zuch's and yellow squash. Scoop out the middle let it cool cut it up, cut up some onions, and whatever other veggies you have throw them in a pan saute them in some garlic put them back into the middle of the zuch or squash throw some cheese on top throw it in the oven and let it cook for a few minutes. If you have old bread cut that up into small squares throw that into the stuffing (works like croutons) gives it crunch. It's yummy.

I mentioned in the other thread we have two:) I've sometimes gotten real enthusiastic for an idea and bought a bunch of chicken that was cheap, and I made 4 nights meals up in one night, One was something that marinated for 24 hours, and another was baked, and again when we lived in the trailer with no kitchen when he lived in Rohnert park Petaluma, , I cut up a huge hunk of meat to crock pottable sizes and a friend seasoned it an we crock potted the meat an it was gooooooooooood.

I even have some books crock pot it and forget about it and I never use them but with the effort to feed ourselves better I am sure they'll come out.

Not too hard to learn, but you have to actually learn to do it.  Experimenting won't kill you.  Try some of the easy things mentioned above - especially slow-cooking .... do you even have a crock-pot, OP?

My ex used to do the same.... another reason he's an ex [:D]

Actually, there's a Japanese snack food that is basically the same thing, ramen that you put the seasoning on directly <shudder>. He loved that stuff.

Oh and if you like liver (which I don't) liver is incredibly cheap, beans are cheap... My grandma always makes liver and onions or liver and beans... and of course cornbread.

When we have green salads with advicado and green onions, and tomato's and other garden items, I don't even want dressing on them. It's tasty enough with out it. That makes it by far healthier, than even home made dressing hehe.

My dad grows bell peppers in his garden, so you don't even have to pay for the peppers[:D]  And I used to wander into the garden and snap off huge handfull of the peas and green beans and eat them right off the vine hehe.

Stuffed peppers are really cheap and easy to make. The most expensive thing is the peppers and you can cut that down if you forgo the red and yellow bell peppers and stick with green.

You can do some incredible things with spinach if you grow it or it's cheap (which it is here). I slice chicken breasts down the middle and stuff them with some sauted spinach and sharp provolone cheese. (I just love cheese).

Spinach is rich in nutrients.. salads, stir fry's, stuffing etc... you can steam it, eat it plain with just a dash of vinegar.

Greek yogurt serves as a good protein and a good carb you can buy it in a bigger container.. you can make cucumber sauce with it for sandwiches or salads or whatever or what I love to do is get the vanilla greek yogurt and cut up slices of honeycrisp apples and scoop the yogurt on the apple and eat them together

It sounds like you have good access to fresh veggies, which is good because they can get kind of expensive to buy. Use your veggies you can do so much with them. Kraft.com or food network.com can help... Look for low budget easy to make meals.

If truly in a pinch boxed mac and cheese, tuna, ramen noodles are all extra cheap and if you have spartan stores around there is for sure at some point going to be like a 50 cents a box sale stock up when you can so that you have extra should something happen.

Termyn8or -> RE: What's the yummiest meal you've made on a severe budget? (10/25/2009 12:39:31 AM)

Cold winter night, no credit, no money. The money was in the bank to cover the house payment. We needed meat.

The freezer was near empty, I dug waaay in the back and found some chicken, The olman found some cans of veggies, some of the like chinese veggies. I fried, cooked and boiled this chicken until it was reall ready to submit, then the in the veggies. ( whatever )

It was our last straw, it made the diffeence. We ate instead of going hungry, note that we were both working at the time and making decent money, but were climbing out of a hole, financially. I wll never forget that day.

Anyway, we always had alot of spices, and spices made this dish really good. Just being food made it good of course, but tasting good added a whole new dimension to it. It became a secret family recipe, so secret that nobody knows it.

But back then, sometime in the early nineties, I was broke. That meal, made out of practically nothing was the best. I mean we were REALLY hungry. You don't understand, we don't go to churches to get food, get food stamps, nothing like that. No credit. And who did we call ? The answers is NOBODY. We went through millions of dollars over the years, it is just plain wrong to ask others for shit, know what I mean ?

See there is a measure of personal pride I take in not asking anyone for anything. But it is a bit more real than that. I have wasted so much that I think it would be wrong to take from anyone, unless they are very well monied. More on my philosophy later.

The meal you need is always better than the meal you want.

Greetings,

verity is enjoy this and the other similar threads, but she now misses a crock pot. They are difficult to get in Germany (atleast halfway good ones are) and she was wondering if anyone knows an online shop that does international deliveries. verity has looked under google but have not had much luck looking. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Greetings angel,

verity knows that one, but 94 euros is almost $US150 and that is out of her budget for the next half a year, verity is looking for a cheaper one, but will most likely have saved for that one before she finds what she is looking for.

Greetings holly,

Thank you. verity will have to stop translating when she does such searches.

verity

P.S. Correct spelling makes a difference. Crack pot is somewhat different to crock pot.
