I can wear regular socks, and for a while I am fine but my legs and my feet swell and if the socks are on my feet for more than 20 minutes, there's a huge indentation where the cuff sat and it's bruised and very painful. This causes the edema in my foot to kind of swell up more.

Perhaps larger, looser socks of a softer material?  Looser shoes or a switch to more comfortable footwear might also help.

ETA - if you're wearing socks for warmth, you may be interested in "Loose Socks."  They were a Japanese fad about ten years ago, but they're still relatively easy to find online.  They're super long, very not-tight, and are usually held up by glue rather than elastic or just worn scrunched up like leg warmers.

Try diabetic socks maybe.

Are you on medication for the edema?

And yes, try diabetic socks.
They are a little more expensive.

You can buy socks for diabetics which will not cut in. Or just get those anklets which end before the calf.

There are actually nice anklet-style socks called "soft cuff" on the market.  I've seen them at WalMart, and they're inexpensive.

yeah they're for warmth, and of course the odd time I wear tennis shoes, they're hanes his way cotton socks, and they're pretty big,  but it's not the overall size it's the neck of the sock if you will that you slide your foot through.

They also have medical hose and stuff and pressure stockings for those with feets problems.

Did you stop taking them because your edema was better?

Maybe you need them again.

Maybe I do. I do want to speak to my dr anyway, and I'll get her to get these started again, all though the swelling is really only when my legs and ankles are below me for a long time, like I've been standing for hours, or sitting for hours, like on a long flight, but maybe it'd help overall.

yeah I noticed the bootie style that stops at just above the bone on the side, does not dig in and if it does it's not so painful.

Socks that dig in, I know the things, they leave an indentation mirroring the elasticated cuff on the leg. What I used to do, was, get the cuff and give it a good yank, to stretch the elastic a bit, it tended to work. Now, I just wear long boot socks, they being of a military issue, tend not to dig in. The ankle socks, yeah, they should work, as they are loose fitting.

Change of diet. If you like beer make sure to have one right before bedtime. You will have to go pee. Beer is actually a dieuretic.

I will detail my illness later, but as of late my swelling has gone down. It is strange, some days I swear I barely drink 36ox of liquid, that means beer, but I have to pee every two hours at night. It breaks up my my sleep, but my feet feel alot better.

The prblem is I don't know exactly what triggered this, it may have been just a stage of recovery, see I did not go to any docs or anything.

Beer, seasalt water, vinegar, pickle juice, V8, anything like that right before bed might help. I had this problem and it is abating. I eat normally now, unlike how I used to. I drink alot less, but you have to realize that I was really sick andf it did take alot out of me. My system seems to ahve adjusted itself, but I am not sure if it was an imbalance or a pathenogen. Evidence from the house indicates it may have been black mold. That has been abated and I have been on the rise ever since.

More on this later, but the main thing is to learn to drink less and keep on pissing. You will piss. When you have a low fluid intake it may seem sensitive, even burn a bit, but try to put up with it. See how it goes.

Everybody else wants you to go see a doc, I will not say that but I will not say not to either. Within the entire CM community I doubt there is one other person with similar background and body chemistry I have. I can no longer recommend for others what I have done myself.

I would say though, to try every natural dieuretic possible before taking any pills. Beer, vinegar, saline, sometimes even certain soups. Different things work for different people.

Give it a try, if after that you need to get injected, inspected, dejected, rejected and whatever else ected (shades of Arlo Guthrie), then do so. Without much hesitation.

I will say, sweetie, combining your other post with this one I would be seeing a medical doctor and ruling out several things. Among them: diabetes, thyroid, fibromyalgia, lupus, heart conditions, ms, vitamin/mineral deficiencies, and more. I don't mean to be scary, but these symptoms all together just are not good news. Many of these conditions can also result in the mental changes you noted in the other thread. If it were me, I'd be sitting in a dr's office as we speak. Many of these things can be easily managed and life can get back to normal. Some are more challenging, but you aren't going to get better without a doctor's care. As for the socks, have you tried the plushy slipper socks? Most have no elastic at all and are extremely warm. I love them. Oh, and please cop a bit of a fit and demand he get that heater in there for you asap. It really is a legitimate need and being cold all the time is just making matters worse. Using pillowcases filled with rice heated in the microwave can help a lot too. Please take good care.

I'm prediabetic and I have edema in my lower limbs, mostly it's annoyed when my socks cut in, or when I spend to much time with my legs below me, like time on your feet or sitting at a computer* which I admit I am so awful about, I'm on from morning till night*

I'm making a huge effort to take care of myself though, I'm walking everyday,  I am eating healthier if I can , and I am even making the dog be healthier,  We're cutting back her food and taking her for walks everyday, because she's 25 pounds overweight, and that's largely because she was fat before we got her 55 pounds, but largely because we free feed an she's a pig.

We got the radiator in here, it's much warmer, One radiator heats the whole room, if you keep doors and window's shut! I am much warmer and much happier when that lil baby is heating the room.

Yes I LOVE those really soft soft plush fuzzy socks, but they don't keep my feet warm enough. I'm getting myself a pair of down after ski booties, and I've worn my dads before and gosh their warm and comfy.

For regular socks I am going to invest in the compression stocking socks, they're for people w/ith diabeties and edema and they're made specially so they don't bind and cut in, they also have some that have anti fungal properties, and so would help with minimizing foot fungus if you had such a problem, and wick moister better so keep your feet dryer, if your feet tend to get damp and clammy from socks, and mine do.

your peeing more could also be a symptom of your sickness worsening.

Tea is supposed to be a diaretic but I drink tons of ice tea all the time and it really doesn't make me pee, One night it did, a ton and it kept me awake, not not usually.

Google "diabetic socks" if you are swelling due to a known circulatory condition.  Some people with mild edema like compression hosiery or compression socks.  But depending on what is causing your edema, you do have to be careful not to use the wrong kind of socks and footwear.  See a doctor.  There are many places online that sell what you need.  Some may be covered by health insurance.

Thank you MissCake, you may not of seen me say so, but I've seen the dr many times this month, She never said what is causing my edema, other than water retention, and maybe being over weight.

I know kiaser, my health provider don't sell them any other way but over the counter, but there's other companies that will maybe give discounts because of your being a member of their affiliated hospital.
