I admit it I have a mapping program on my computer which I use when I don't know where I'm going. I admit it when I get lost, sometimes I get a little panicky due to the lack of direction sense, but for the most part, I just see it as another adventure. Back in the olden days, before all this electronic wizardry, when I moved to a different city, I would learn my way around by driving aimlessly. One day, my daughter & I were out for one of those drives & at one point, after we had left the city behind, she asked me where we were. I admitted that I didn't know. Her eyes got big & she said a little fearfully, "You mean we're lost???!?" I replied, "No, we're not lost, I just don't know exactly where we are right now." I admit it when I have to go somewhere new & be on time, I usually try to leave an extra half hour early so that if I do get lost, I will have time to find my way again. Doesn't always work, of course. I admit it another one of my issues is that my brain doesn't process spoken directions very well. So if you tell me to go to the 2nd traffic light & turn right, then go to the McDonald's & turn left, then right before you get to.....that's as far as my brain gets. And I will miss the McDonald's because I'm looking at the street ahead of me & the other cars, etc. But if I look at a map, I'm fine. I admit it I've used GPS, but I have to mute the voice because the words don't make sense to me. And the maps are too small for me to really get the big picture, or they're not detailed enough for me. And moving them in & out to see the details &/or the big picture is way more distracting than being on a cell phone, IMO.
