There used to be a show, on A&E I believe, about a family that made a business out of hunting the wild hogs, especially in Central TX.

Damned things like to tear up my yard once in a while. Also came across a group of them crossing the road...there were about 3 sows, 25 piglets and the main boar...wreaked that fence up in seconds.

Ghastly, shitty thing to happen to a friend, Greta. Good luck to you both.

Thanks. I will know Wednesday how the surgery went and what happens after that. I hope it would be as easy as tumour removed, he is magically healed!

I admit I've been thinking of Greta's friend and hoping all went well yesterday.

I admit that the idea of dropping some of the anti gun people in an area populated by feral hogs with only a large knife has some merit.
I admit that the idea of dropping those people who claim the second amendment only applies to muskets in an area populated by feral hogs with a flintlock also has its merit.

Gotcha. Are they at least edible when you shoot them?

The sows are, for the most part, but the old boars, well, the meat tends to smell like someone pissed on a fire when you cook it, so, not so much.

You ever get over this way, I would think you might find a bit of adventure on a night hog hunt.

I have watched boars slash tires with their tusks, take a bumper off a truck and one unlucky soul last week had his leg ripped open, earned himself about 43 stitches in the process.

They tend to get a wee bit pissed off when you only hurt them.

I wonder if my uncle still has that old .444 Marlin.

I admit that the thought of shooting a 444 again brings pain to my shoulder....
I admit that I have used a reproduction Remington hiwall rolling block chambered for 45-110 on the critters with decent results (considering the round was designed for use against buffalo.)

WhoreMods -> RE: I Admit It I........ (3/3/2017 5:11:05 AM)

Is a .444 the enormous long bullet that elephant guns use?

Not quite, a bit of information is here.

The elephant calibers included .416 Rigby, .404 Jeffery, and .505 Gibbs. The .505 was a four-inch long cartridge that fired a 525-grain bullet large enough to be classified today as a ‘Destructive Device’ in the US.

The .444 would have probably fit the bill as it is a lengthened 44 magnum round, if fired from a rifle and not a carbine.

Of course there were the .500, .577, and .700 nitro express rounds that are hell on shoulders.

WhoreMods -> RE: I Admit It I........ (3/3/2017 8:57:08 AM)

Thanks. Any rifle bullets besides a .303, 7.63 or 5.56 and I'm lost, but even I can tell that the .444 is a little smaller than the elephant gun rounds from that.

peppermint -> RE: I Admit It I........ (3/3/2017 9:46:09 AM)

I admit we have no wild hogs here. However, the lady across the street raises rabbits and they get loose and come up here to breed. Then they dig under the house so part of the foundation will have to be repaired this summer.

I admit I had never killed anything but bugs and spiders. The rabbits got to me. Went to store. Bought a lovely little bolt action single shot 22 rifle (my very first firearm of any kind), bought a scope, came home, and killed rabbits. Now if Mr Fox decides he wants to dine on my chickens this year, I'm ready for him.

I want to fire a Lahti 20mm anti tank rifle... just once

No, no you dont, not unless you got a shit ton of padding on your shoulder.

The Americans (actually it was a British gun) had a 20mm anti tank rifle and I have fired one of them, dislocating my shoulder in the process. The Lahti is reputed to have a much harder kick, mainly due to the fact the recoil spring on the damn thing is not really good at absorbing the recoil.

Added to that is the simple fact that both weapons were adapted to man portable from vehicle mounted designs.

Basically they were designed by a sadistic bastard with an absolute hatred for infantry.

So now you are as old as dirt and want to put yourself in a body cast, is that it?

Magnum cartridges hurt a lot more than that old Marlin.
You know as well as I do that technique is more important to prevent bruising.

I admit not even Keanu Reeves in a wetsuit could redeem Point Break.

I admit that I thought the ladies were supposed to like that one over him out of Roadhouse, rather than Keanu Act?
I admit that I'm posting while my brain is somewhat lubricated. Does it show?

No. I must admit I hadn't noticed any difference.

[:D]

jlf1961 -> RE: I Admit It I........ (3/6/2017 2:18:14 PM)

I admit that Point Break was one of the poorest excuses for a movie that has been produced in recent years.
I admit that Keanu is not the greatest actor in the world, but his humanitarian acts far outweigh his acting ability.
I admit that I watch classic Traci Lords movies, as well as her 'mainstream' attempts, but not for her acting.
I admit that there are other female movie persons that I watch but not for acting ability.
