I just watched some of the movie Jesus Camp and as a Christian I have to say it is embarassing. It is not the way I feel. I think they are brain washing those poor kids. It is not acceptable. Please dont everyone think we are all like that. I appologize for those misguided people in Missouri. Besides, that church wasnt scriptual as it had a female pastor and thats not acceptable.

What a relief to know that the campground was vandalized and shut down because the people who ran it didn't feel safe to practice their faith with such a ministry.

Whew.  Thank God for tolerance and freedom of religion in America, huh?

Tolerance and freedom of religion I got plenty of.....its brainwashing ,indoctrination and child abuse that irks me...its 5 year olds being set on a path towards religious intolerance that ticks me off....its robbing children of one of their most precious commodities ,their very childhood that I can't abide....its hiding behind tolerance and freedom of religion to excuse and/or condone these acts that really sets my skin crawling.
But thats just me ......

You started off well, but went downhill quickly.

Which I suspect was the intention from the start.

To drum up controversy.

And I suppose, with your premise, followers of christ should come along and apologise for you and those that are like you who claim to be christian and have a misguided stance on females not being in positions of authority within the church?  Jesus treated women with dignity and respect.  You just exhibited neither.
Jesus would be appalled by your misogyny.

Damn. I came all the way over here to admire someone's new restraints, and all I find is Yet Another Pointless Religious Debate. I don't think even hot buttered popcorn can save this one. You kids have fun slugging it out (give em hell, the.dark); I'll be over here knowing what I know as truth and being instinctually happy with that. And making sure that the rum is gone (again).
Love and Peace.
(and yes, women as clergy is acceptable. A relationship with God combined with the gift to teach and impart truth is not based on gender. Sorry if the person mentioning this did not get the memo..)

See?  There's that intolerant, totalitarian streak rearing its head.  Pretend they are simply Islamic and raising children according to their culture.  All better now?

just what we need, more people telling us what Jesus would say or do.  Truth be told, no one knows what he would do.

It is tempting, so tempting to make all manner of comments on that line of thinking, Heritic....but I am going to refrain. I am going to merely ask you what you see as the diffrence in the indoctrination of children as "soldiers of christ" and "soldiers of allah" and if you view one to have any superiority over the other.

I haven't much use for the extremists of any religion, Spinner, but I find the casual bigotry against Christians rather funny in a political climate where we have to be ever so accepting and tolerant of every other religion.

Perhaps you missed it, I'm pretty sure Mike did, but in a free society, we don't get to tell parents that they cannot teach religious values to the offspring.  Besides, I know all sorts of fun, non-fundy people who grew up with that crap, even went off to similar camps, and somehow turned out as decent folk anyway.

Now, if the kids grow up to shoot an abortion doctor, I'm completely ok with executing them for it.

And I'm ok with fundamental Islamists killing neo-cons when they grow up, so its all good Rich.

But worshipping cardboard idols of GWB? that aint in the books, neither of them.

...well, that's not entirely true. Well, it is true as far as it goes but it is also true that in that selfsame free society we all get to say what we think of it.

This isn't casual bigotry against Christians, it's what happens to a religion in a free society. Some agree, some don't care, some disagree......and they all get to say what they feel.

Don't look at me. Organized religion of any kind makes me uncomfortable. Sooner or later, they tend to come up with the idea that, since God hates everyone who doesn't worship him as they do, it would just be showing their love to God to wipe the dirty heathens out. Then the good old choice of "convert or die" comes into play.

Yes, parents have the right to send their kids to places like those shown in that documentary. But that doesn't mean it's not an ugly thing to do and an even uglier thing to see. The only difference between radical Islam and radical christians is the name they scream while learning to hate.
