Not once did I see Dobbs indulge in anything remotely resembling "forthright analysis and discussion". Rather, I witnessed a man with a bad toupe and fake teeth pretending to be an indedependent whilst actually flogging the same tired old pseudo libertarian cliches. Sorry if it hurts your feelings (it's so sad, when people need heroes), but the man's a fucking toothy twat  [:)] .

High ratings usually means pure shite. Everyone knows that morons are quantifiably more numerous and that they love the sort of crap Dobbs sells. It's called populism.

Welcome to planet Earth [8D] .

Yes, Lou Dobbs identifies as an independent populist. Is there anything wrong with fighting for common good?

Oops, already stated.

For me Lou Dobbs was one of the few honest political commentators in CNN. He made it pretty clear that he was kicked out of CNN as he was not willing to compromise (or stop expressing) his position  in issues like illegal immigration, globalization designed to fleece America for the benefit of corporate and other elites, government monetary policies and others. Honest public debate of meaningful issues is becoming increasingly difficult in US.

I'm sure he will find a home on Fox, just like Glenn Beck did after he left CNN.

I hear that network is really "fair and balanced".

Depends what you define the "common good" to be.

Its important to note the shift from Fox's dominance during the Bush years, to CNN since Obama has taken office. Every airport you're in, used to have every TV on Fox, and we were forced to swallow the bitter pill of O'Reilly in our ears. Now, all TVs are set to CNN, and it just wouldn't do to have anchors making some kind of counterpoint to the White House party lines. The White House works for certain corporations, and for a long time has. The idea that Americans are going to pay for illegals to have health care, was a decision made during the North American Union talks during the Bush years, and Obama has agreed to continue the trend, and has promised that this would be a part of the new Health Care "Reform". The fact that Obama's fine for not buying mandatory insurance is "up to $250,000 and/or up to 5 years" would not have made a pleasant campaign topic to say the least. When corporations make decisions for the government, that's called Fascism. Its one more industry-led bill that's going to go through, and here it comes.

Slavehandsome

Well, that was an enormously ridiculous stretch.

To begin, I traveled on a weekly basis during the Bush years, in and out of every major airport, and I rarely saw Fox anywhere.

It was always CNN.

But hey, don't let me burst your bubble.

As I said, Fox is corporate media like CNN they are not interested of Mr. Independent. The Republican/Democrat fight is basically just a fake wrestling.

I never understood why US "liberals" support illegal immigration? I understand why corporations do. I have been explained US is the country of immigrants and this is the reason. Nobody should be discriminated. We have no illegal people (Hillary Clinton).
Fair trade Lou advocates should not be too difficult to understand. Supporting the middle class instead of shoveling the wealth into the pockets of few on the top either.

No, it's really not. Though this has become a popular refrain from those who claim to be Independents but really just want to be able to remain on the sidelines, not commit to anything, and be able to criticize both sides to demonstrate their moral superiority as an excuse for their apathy.

I never understand why illegal immigration is said to be supported by liberals.

I'm liberal and I don't support it.

But you might remember that staunch conservative we had a little while ago as President:

Bush proposes legal status for illegal immigrants

“Out of common sense and fairness, our laws should allow willing workers to enter our country and fill jobs that Americans are not filling,” the president said in an address in the East Room to members of Congress, his Cabinet and immigrant advocacy groups.

NeedToUseYou -> RE: Lou Dobbs leaves CNN (11/13/2009 5:06:49 AM)

Whether you like Lou Dobbs or not, he was the only other perspective on CNN. Now, there is nothing but clones. Turn it on anytime, they all sound the same.

Variety is good whether you agree with the variety or not. Fox is annoying for the same reason, it's like a constant stream of one consciousness spewed through different bodies.

Anyway, all hail the uniformity of thought.

I don't know of anyone in the Democratic party in favor of illegal immigration. You're just parroting the GOP/FNC lies about Democrats.

Youre right for a change. There are some, however, in favor of open borders so there would be no such thing as illegal immigration, which is even worse.

Rule, I'm an Independant and I'm certainly not apathetic! lol
I never voted for Clinton, Bush, or Obama. Bush was "bought and paid for" by big corporations. It looks as though Obama may be also albeit to a lesser extent.
And I'm very "liberal" on some issues like legalizing marijuana, gay marriage, freedom of choice, women's rights etc but I certainly don't support illegal aliens or any type of "amnesty." Most Americans don't.
That's really not a "conservative" or "liberal" issue it's a law enforcement issue. No big surprise that some corporations would favor it though to improve their bottom line and undercut the wages of working Americans is there?
I would venture a guess that more people support legalizing marijuana "liberal", "conservative" and "independant" as well as the other political affiliations.
If they put "amnesty" on the ballot as a referendum it would lose 90-10.

Yes, right. Are we talking about politics? Who would say they support illegal activity? At the same time, who is blocking all the efforts to prevent illegal immigration? I am talking about things like workplace enforcement, sanctuary cities, border enforcement, high number of foreign labor visas despite high unemployment and so on. Hypocrisy has been part of politics since ancient times. I am not American but I am with Dobbs about the issue: illegal immigration is a destructive force despite some may argue it is better than outsourcing (corporations get what they want and the productive capital stays in the country).

the entire government has and will be skidding on that.

because you know what? YOU ain't gonna go out there and slaughter turkeys, nor pick lettuce.

Actually there are politicians in the US on both sides of the aisle who support more relaxed immigration rules. That's why nothing is getting done. there is no consensus on what needs to be done.

Dobbs and his supporters strike me as simple bigots who don't like the skin colors of most recent immigrants. His reporting on the issue has been full of absolute lies (7000 leprosy cases) or derived from racist groups (Council for Concerned Citizens). Then of course this summer he embraced the undeniably racist Orly Taitz and her birthers.

Have any of you ever been stuck in an E.R.listening to Dobbs rhapsodize about that idiot Sheriff Joe....oh the agony,as if waiting for the x-ray results wasn't bad enough.
I won't miss him.....not a bit!

I am sad to see him go. I tried to catch his show everyday on Xm radio. He wasn't one to bullshit you or try to tell you what you think. I may have to go outside the country to get my news from now on.

Bingo
You are on point.
Sometimes, you just have to sit back and follow the money.
