ORIGINAL: luckydawg In the old kingdoms, and early pyramid times (4000is years ago), there were still glaciers in North african mountains, and Egypt (and the whole North African coast) was lush. Durring the Roman times there was still a lot of water in the aquifers, and coming down the Nile from melting snow from the inland mountains (just kilimanjaro is left and going fast, but there used to be a whole lot). Just ilustrates how the earth has been in a warming trend (with a few blips of cooling, like the one that ended in the 1800s) for about 15,000 years. Fair point. I'd been led to believe that the topsoil was destroyed as well, though.
