Mom and I went to Curves this morning and Mom tested the machines (she thought they were weighed down instead of hydra(?)*damn it can't spell again* but she was able to handle them well good and so she signed up for a year. I need to bring my checkbook in so I can do my year. On the application she said that I drag her in and on my I put down that someone online challenge me.

Soon, I will lose this weight and become a slimmer self (with bewbage).

I didn't carpool today so I had the car (dangerous because.........) and am only a few blocks away from a grocery with a faaaaaabulous food court and I was SOOOOOOOOO craving some fried rice and eggrolls and crab rangoons annnnnnnnnnnd some Reeses Peanutbutter cups annnnnnnnd instead I did the right thing.

I walked and came back and ate my Kashi bar washing it down with a cuppa green tea, and will be eating my orange later on.

Don't get me wrong, I love the Kashi bars, and I loved the apple I ate this morning and I love the green tea and will relish the fresh orange I am going to have in awhile. But that yummy fried stuff is just SO GOOD! And I wanted it SO BAD!!

Lean Cuisine came out w/this great "Veggie egg roll, rice & sauce" dish. Delicious!

I've been doing the 8 minute abs & 8 minute buns workout each night in addition to walking for a couple of hours on Sun. If I can REMEMBER to start getting ready earlin in the AM I'll take the bus to work & walk home.

No meat?  Bah... pixie and I are both carnivores.   But I AM glad you found something you like.  Lean Cuisine generally doesn't have enough food for me, but they do come in handy, as long as you know how to read the ingredient labels.

Yeah, me to. I can't even consider vegetarian, as I can't eat corn, wheat (or any of its similar family members like kamut, etc.), or soy.

Besides... I -like- meat! (And all the weight loss I've been having is on a grain-free, paleo/raw diet, so I guess that works for me... I only ever gained on the high-whole-grain/carb diets).

You're right about not having enough food! Lol
The thing about the frozen "dinner's" is too much sodium but that's a risk I'll take
I try to eat these once a day & if I eat it at home I'll mix is up w/a salad.
If I eat it at work I'll just eat cereal/fruit at home.

I hear you.  I have actually gone months and then realized I haven't eaten any veggies or carbs and have been fine.  My midget is the exact same way.  You'll ask him what he wants and the first thing he will say is "meat".

Check out the Kashi brand. I believe they are lower in sodium and are very tasty.

Also, Amy's has some low sodium frozen meals that are yummy.

Mom and I had our first workout session last night and got another scheduled for 11 this morning. Mom is getting serious about this diet and we are getting lean cuts of meat, more veggies and salad. I told her that chocolate should still be part of the diet since we need some fat in the diet for our hair and nails.

tonight I am watching the biggest loser. I got my money on Danny.

Count me in!  I need to lose quite a bit of weight, and I am utterly lacking in motivation.  Granted, for me the only real good motivation is crushing on someone cute who is also interested in me, and that's lacking at the moment.  (Thought it was, he was =really= cute, but he did the sudden vanish thing.  La sigh)

I'm dragging out my hand weights and putting them near the computer.  I was doing ten pound bicep curls before I got married, and I want to get back to that point.  Remember, even at rest, a pound of muscle burns more calories than a pound of fat.  I'm also hoping to scrounge up enough cash to join the Y, since working out in the water is much easier on my poor knees.    Here are my two favourite clothing links.  Both carry swimwear, and Junonia carries a variety of sports clothing in large sizes.

Making it Big = http://www.makingitbig.com/

Junonia = http://www.junonia.com/home.htm  (Junonia occasionally has some fantastic clearance specials)

What I will contribute to start are two recipes, one with carbs, one without.  I also have a recipe for sugarless cookies, but I'll actually try making them before I post them, so I can tell you if they're any good.

First, mostly whole-wheat, low fat "bisquick"  This does make quite a bit, so you might want to consider sharing it with a friend.

To make this you'll need a really huge bowl, a container with a good lid, and very clean hands.  You'll also have to not mind getting your fingers gooey. (which shouldn't be an issue with this group) I'm planning to try this with just whole wheat pastry flour, which is finer, and eliminate the white flour, but I haven't yet.

4 cups unbleached white flour (unbleached is essential)
5 cups whole wheat flour (Check for whole wheat pastry flour at a natural foods store)
1-1/2 Tablespoons salt  (Yes, tablespoons)
4 Tablespoons baking powder
1-1/2 cups solid shortening  (They sell crisco without trans fats)

Mix the dry ingredients together pretty well in a huge bowl.
You want to make sure the salt and baking powder are
all through the flour.  Then pack the shortening into the cup
tightly, making sure there aren't any holes.  Dump that into
the bowl, and do the same with the 1/2 cup.  You don't have
to be precise, I never am.  Now use your fingers and mush it
all together so it looks more or less like bisquick.  You
don't want to overmix, there should be bits of fat about
the size of a pea, and most of it sort of crumbly.  Dump it
into the storage container when it's thoroughly mixed.  You
don't want any bits of plain flour, or large blobs of fat.
Use it just like bisquick.  You can use up to a full 2 cups
of fat if you want.  I just try to make it a bit lighter.

Recipe #2

Crustless microwave quiche

I started out with a combination of homemade sausage, onions, garlic, and peppers that I'd browned with a bit of basil.   I was using it to add a bit of oomph to scrambled eggs, but you can use whatever you wish. I've also had good luck with thawed and drained frozen spinach.  Soy sausage crumbles go great in this.

Spritz a 9" glass pie dish with cooking spray. Dump 2-3
cups of any combination of cooked meat and veggies you
want into the dish. Top with 1 cup of cheese, grated.
I used shredded sharp cheddar. Mix 4 eggs with 1 cup of milk.
Evaporated milk or light cream or 1/2 and 1/2 works best,
but this time I used powdered milk and it came out fine.
If you use powdered milk, mix extra powder in to thicken it a bit.
You can mix some herbs or Mrs. Dash or what have you with the eggs
if you wish. Pour the eggs over the mixture in the pie dish, spread
it about a bit. I tend to shove the meat and veggies to the edges of the pan.
Nuke for roughly 10 minutes, or until the middle is set. Then I cut
it into quarters. It's good cold, or warm. You can also freeze it and reheat it.

If you use already cooked, leftover meat and veggies, you can make this start to finish in fifteen minutes. It really is good, and you don't mind the lack of crust. If you must have some carbs, have some whole-grain toast or something.

I've discovered that the two things that send my bloodsugar waaaay out of whack are refined white flour and corn syrup. Neither of which is healthy for =anyone=.

If you try this, let me know how it went, and what you thought of it.

Other whan walking I haven't really been working out this past week. My doctor actually suggested looking into a gym membership but there aren't really any gyms in the town I live in and since I dont drive. Bah. I have cut out alot of of the carbs from my diet and started eating more meat and veggies. I definately need to work on drinking more water but city water is nasty and harford county water is the worst.

eta: Yesterday, NM pointed out that my size 16 jeans are kind of loose now.

What about a Britta filter?  You know, the ones that come with a pitcher?  I have 2 at work and go through them 2 times over daily.  The water there is nasty but the filter helps.

*edited to add....Oh, and with that little butt-in, I'd like to throw my hat into this ring, if that's ok.  I do something similar with a friend on Yahoo but I've hit a wall and could use support where I can get it.  Not looking to lose huge amounts of weight, more like get healthy and in better shape.

I'm re-joining my gym today so there will be no excuses!!!
