You just don't want to pin any responsibility on the kid. It's about everything and anything but him. Accept any risk to protect him first. Take any steps except endangering him. I won't be going there with you, sorry. He was given a choice, and he made it. There is no way it could have ended better than for him to just have put his hands up, and he didn't.

Calm down, don't panic - they make a pill for that now.
Shit Panda....OTC or will I need a script?

Meet me in the parking lot down at the bowling alley in 20 minutes, bro. We'll take care of that script thing for ya.

if he had not gone looking for him he may not of needed to shoot him? All if and could have been discussions...

He went looking to see what the noise was. So drop that first idea.

Now, once he saw it was an intruder, what would you suggest? Quietly back out of the room, hope he wasn't heard, abandon the chance to keep the situation localized to a space that was away from the family he wanted to protect, accept the risk that the guy might move into the living area of the home next and that he might not have a second chance to get as good a drop on him if he turned out to be armed (as he did) with God knows what intentions?

I don't think so.

K.

First I call the cops...who gives a shit if its a false alarm...Yes if I was not seen and had called the police I would have backed away to a place I had the advantage... If I had to shoot I would otherwise I'd wait for the police.

As it was he could have missed .the kid could have shot and disabled him… then who would have protected his wife.

I only say this because you asked what I would do…not to say Orion was wrong.

So you're going to squirrel yourself away behind the bedroom door and leave the guy roaming around at large in the rest of the house - a house where your father, your grandmother, and your 4-year old child are sleeping and defenseless?

Seriously? You're going to do that?

I can't believe you don't understand my point. Hell yes it was all his fault he deserved what he got.

And Orion did a great job...a brave job protecting his family.

All my post has been for the future... on how the same result...culprit captured family safe...but no shots fired.

Don't be silly... I'd find a spot I could keep an eye on him...even if it were just outside the door

Excuse me,but I just have to ask......just what the hell is it that you think you have figured out?
Perhaps the correct spelling of "mother"....or is it possible you have figured out a larger truth....
Me I'm guessing its the "mother" thing.....somehow I think the larger truths escape you.

My fault really... that should have been the very first words I said... then all the rest later... I just thought everyone knew I felt that way… That is why I was so surprised I was attacked…But no I said something stupid… I said big man where I meant to say big deal…that is why I corrected it…but did a bad job doing it.

LOL...whatever floats your boat.
Now that I have complimented you perhaps you might feel like apologising for calling me an idiot?
I mean seeing as we're all friends and such.

OK, I apologize for calling you an idiot. But most people have no clue what it's really like out there on the streets.

OK..so he thought it was his son...yep lets load a gun in the dark and go check it out....he could have yelled...called the police anything...please lets not go over and over what he did do...and maybe talk what he could have done without rancor.

His son.... or a wild animal that came in through a vent. I don't know if you have ever faced a possibly rabid raccoon or possum, but they can get really pissy (personal experience talking here). That said, the point is that he didn't know what it was, but it was in the room next to where he and his girl were sleeping, down the hall from his young child.

As for yelling... umm, why? If it was his eldest, there wasn't a threat; if it was an animal, it would have done no good unless it was a bunny (ever tried to scare a possum or raccoon by yelling at them? LOL); if it was an armed intruder, you have just given away your position and possibly woken the child down the hall. Not a good idea.

I've already covered calling the police. How do you do that from the next room without the intruder (if there is one) hearing you? It has also been pointed out that if every "strange noise" in a house located in a semi-rural area lead to a 911 call, the cops would be running in circles chasing errant cats and such.

Really, Butch, I just don't think you are seeing the big picture here. You are taking the story backwards, and adding in quite a few assumptions to boot. The worst of those is assuming that someone who breaks into a house in the middle of the night, armed with a gun and a knife, is just looking to take some stuff and run away because he's a "kid". While it might have happened that way, I can think of several other "what ifs" that end in some or all of the family winding up hurt or dead. If you want to take that risk, it's your decision. Some of us disagree.

I do not find this to be so at all. All your posts have been a repeated rehash of what he should of done or what you think you would of done in his same scenerio.

Future things would include things like..making sure all the doors to include garage are locked at night. Installing a home alarm. Making sure some decent outside lighting is on. Check into getting a guard dog. Making sure there is a working phone in several areas of the home for better access. These are logical futures possibles.

If the police find zero fault in Master Orions actions taken under the circumstances given..then I sure as hell don't need to.

Thank you...and welcome to the  boards.Trust me there will be plenty of opportunities to call me an idiot down the line.
By the way I grew up in New York City...I've a pretty good idea of what its like out there on the streets.
p.s. whether or not they are smart...I probably shoudn't have called you a jackass either...so for that I apologise.....but "ice the mutha"?
