Problem on Collarme - 12/22/2009 2:03:39 AM

I saw a friend's profile here earlier in the month, I emailed her about it on another website.  She and I dated briefly so when I saw the ad I emailed her and let her know that it was nice to see her here and it's too bad we didn't know we were both into this etc. (it was totally vanilla dating).  She replied and informed me that she didn't make the ad and she is contacting the police.  She thinks I posted the ad, something that I would never do!  I just replied to her (I just now saw the emails from her) and informed her that I did not and would not do that.  I'm not even going to check if 'her' profile is gone, I don't even want to know at this point.  She is PISSED and I don't blame her.  What should I do?

Let her know you feel badly for her situation. Let her know she can contact CM and request they remove the profile. Remind her you didn't do it and you sympathize with her. Surely she should realize it wasn't you if you assist her in having it taken down, no?

She emailed me (on the other site) on the 15th and informed me that she contacted the site to have the profile taken down. I only read the emails from her just now.  I let her know that I would never do such a thing as post a fake profile of someone else.

I moderate on a rating site in the faker's forum. People steal other people's pictures all the time to use in profiles. Chances are that's what happened to her. Fake profiles happen and when you have a site that has thousands or so members, it gets hard to weed them out. Most people can do is contact the site and inform them of what's going on. It doesn't mean a site can't be enjoyed for it's main purpose, nor that it shouldn't be trusted, it's the people that make fake profiles that shouldn't be.

Alot of times they get the pics from other sites that people are on. Some sites make their content un-right clickable, but that doesn't really work sometimes. cutting back on the amount of sites you're on and sticking to one or two pictures instead of a bunch can help avoid that too.

Don't sweat it. I take it you left on good terms and are just trying to keep it that way. As for the profile, number one if you had done it there is not a hell of a lot they can do to you, but you didn't. Number two if you had, why would you inform her of it ?

As far as trusting CM, don't trust anyone too much online. Privacy and anonyminty are held in high regard, but there is no way anyone can stop things like this from happening. CM staff may be able to find out who actually did it. But for that you might need a court order. They may be able to trace the originating IP, but really back when it was done, how the heck would they know ? Even without the IP info, there is at least one email involved so that can lead to the culprit, so it might not fall on CM to do the investigating. That email service provider would do it, and lead back to the end user IP eventually. In other words if TSHTF you will be exonerated as long as you didn't do it.

Actually it's nice to know that some people can break up and not have a knock down dragout, or hate each other for life. She may feel a little ripped right now and really, she probably does think you did it. But in the end it should all settle down nicely.

But all in all, don't 'not trust CM' singling them out. This can happen anywhere and it does happen all the time. And she must be a hottie if someone actually stole her picture. Might as well tell her to get used to it, that picture is probably on alt.com, fiendfinder or whatever as well. And they have no idea either until someone makes some noise.

Some time back I met a guy off here. He turned out to be a real bunny boiler and it ended up with police involvement. Even when I thought it was all over, done and dusted, he set up a new profile on here called allthatjazz (using 2 z's instead of one) I wrote to collar me and they jumped on it straight away. This is one site I would trust when it comes to taking quick action.

FR-

Here's a thought. It really WAS her profile. The two of you broke up, and now she is exploring something and didn't appreciate being found out. So she has a hissy fit and tell the guy it isn't her and she is calling the police. Doesn't matter much, the OP is gone, so who cares really.

Honestly, even though I do know people will create a profile in revenge, I just have a feeling this one wasn't a case of that.

There is always the chance that someone "stole" her picture from another dating site, and used it over here to make a fake profile. Happened to people a LOT at another Adult Friend place...so much so that many of us took to making a "watermark" and using it on our photos so they could not be used by anyone else.

Which is a good suggestion for anyone on here too. If I thought my photo was nice enough to be used by someone else, I'd certainly watermark it.

This isn't quite the same thing, but when i was new and "under consideration" (i know, i was new!) the dom was over and wanted to peruse my emails and my search settings. Which i allowed him to do (i know, i was new!). Anyway, he turned out to be dom, not in a commanding way, but in a whiny Mommy where the hell are my cheezy poofs way and turned out to be married (yes i got all the fake crap out with just one dumb Dom lol) and really just vanilla hoping for kinky sex(i know, i was new!).

Anyway, i wrote him a dear dom letter after he left that day. He didnt throw a fit, and i thought all was well. About a week later a very handsome Dom that had only emailed me once before emailed again and we became involved. He put a note on His journal that i had restored faith for Him on this site. About 10 minutes later, He got an email from a screen name Whtudntnoabther forwarding emails "from me" that said all kinds of crazy stuff i never said. When He tried to respond the acct was gone.

The only person that would have a list of people i talked with and want to watch their profile was fatboy (my fond name for the married one, they say women lie about their pic! lol Think Chunk from the Goonies) so i think he did it. More drama than i want.
People are mean.

(It didnt work by the way, the Handsome One and i are thick as thieves and still seeing each other )

Trust, like many words, has a meaning. When you trust someone or something, you trust them for a specific purpose.

I trust collarme for it's main purpose, a site to meet people with an interest simular to mine, a site to maybe make a hookup for dating, a place to discuss things with somewhat likeminded people representing a broad spectrum of opinions on the forums.

I do not trust them to keep me safe, that's my job. When I say i 'trust' them as a place to meet people that I may then date, I mean I trust them to the same degree I trust the produce dept at the grocery or the line at the greyhound station or a local bar to do the same job - they throw some people together, but I know in advance there is no screening, that's my job.

So, do i trust cm? to do what it does, yes. To do other things, to do my jobs for me, no. I don't trust CM to put anything under my tree tonight, either. That's Santa's job. :)
