I've heard the term once before but had dismissed it as a personal phrasing that had less than accurate meaning. Though, now I've heard the term again, and this time on the forums here. Can anyone explain what this is in detail?

Are professional submissives akin to a Dominate/Dominatrix who holds his/her activities specifically to fill the desires of their clients? Or is the term closer to that of a prostitute selling services for nothing more than the money? How do you get involved in such a situation, as well? Does a professional submissive/slave offer services to a single individual and wait until that person moves on or until a contracted time ends?

Or was I correct in assuming that the phrase "professional submissive" is just a bad term that gives the wrong idea to people who are new to the scene like myself?

It's been decades since I went to a pro dungeon, but back then they usually had dommes and subs working by the hour.... Like all professional relationships sometimes it involves sex, other time not...

i think its advertising themselves to provide a service for money.

so far as i know they agree on a meet up for a specified time and agree on the activities/level of play before hand.

So it's not uncommon, at your experience, for a submissive to be employed in a professional dungeon as well? I guess that makes enough sense, considering there are as likely as many Dominates as submissive. Dom/Dommes without their own slaves have to make their interest as well, eh?

Sounds like both sides of the field. Are you saying you've heard of instances in which the proposition is made individually like an escort or prostitute (not insulting either, just using both methods as an example)?

From my understanding, pro subs offer the service of 'bottoming' for certain types of BDSM activities. I've gathered that most do not offer sexual services, though I'm sure a few do. Mostly though, they are an outlet for a dominant who needs release...lol. Example, they may agree to letting a dom/top put them in suspension and use impact toys on them for an hour for a fee. However, I imagine the terms of their submission are agreed upon ahead of time, and I wouldn't consider them prostitutes.

Pros in general are service providers. They are in charge inasmuch as they choose which activities they are willing to participate in and with whom. Regardless of whether they are Dom/me or sub.

im no authority on this at all. i only know of one submissive who did do this, but she only did it once. she was with a master and he hired her out, but she was more than willing to give it a go.

so far as i can recall, she advertised herself on here and a man approached her, they agreed on a weekend in a hotel. her master made specifications on what was acceptable and what wasnt and the 'punter' for want of a better word, signed it.

i believe some masters like to have their slaves, subs used/played with by other men - but it doesnt always involve money or sex

It's pretty much what a pro-dom is. They get money for being topped and most don't provide sexual services as well, though some probably do. I wouldn't say the situation is exactly the same - the pro-sub has some extra safety concerns since they are being bound and beaten.

It's something I've considered many times and almost dabbled with once but things didn't work out.

when i advertised some years ago that line of work it was what brought me to bdsm...my C-Dom did see my profile and in his view i looked a touch submissive to him...and there he cheekily gave it a go rather unexpected (one step at a time, during our first meeting he did -thankfully - not disclose that he is a sadist). After meeting him i decided to offer that as well but nobody could reach the quality of dominating me,as he did...and yes, often it didn't include sex with the people i met.

Pro subs normally do not have sex with clients, at least in the U.S., not sure of the laws in other countries.

Most of the ones I've heard of work in a dungeon where there are other people who will help enforce their safety in case a client decides not to abide by the agreements. And just as most dommes do some things and not others, pro subs also have their own lists of acceptable activities.

Sorry to have taken so long to properly readdress this thread. My apologies to those of you who posted; you deserved a more prompt reply.

Thank you for your answers. A few open opinions from people of differing backgrounds helps put together a better understanding of the basics of the idea. I'm glad that those of you who did approach this thread were willing to do so kindly and with a sense of respect and humility. Your opinions and statements have given me an idea of where to start to better understand this part of the lifestyle and, in a way, a manner in which to assess myself by comparisons to other.

Again, thank you all.

i knew a woman that was a "professional submissive" i spent the weekend with her in Wash. D.C. a few years ago.  OMG....she was a piece of WORK!

i'm not sure where she advertised, but i know it was online. She would do(receive), bondage, various kinds of beating (flog, paddle, crop, cane, etc) she would do service, pretty much whatever within her limits. She offered me a gig with her, and to split the money LOL, i gracefully declined. Its just not my bag. To me, it felt to much like hooking. It was a fun weekend though, and how can you not have a good time at the Crucible!

Last year I had the opportunity to do a paid session with a switch at PAS as well as a male bottom (HOT!) and it was fantastic.  The OP did not specify gender so I thought I'd follow up - while male pro subs/bottoms are pretty uncommon, they do exist. At Passive Arts they have quite a few female switches/subs who offer pro sessions, and their dungeon/playspace is fantastic.

Yes, there are Professional submissives. There are establishments where they do, for a fee, engage is BD/SM activities. I knew a few individuals who worked at such a place. A client would come in select a submissive and they would negotiate the scene. At no time, was insertion of any kind allowed as that would constitute prostitution. There scenes were monitored with a intercom system by other staff members to insure the safety of the submissive. These types of establishments were frequently visited by local law enforcement to ensure that they were not simply a smoke screen for a house of prostitution. There are also individuals who do this out of their home, I don't know if the legal issues are any different or less restrictive simply because of the location, I seriously doubt it.
