This place has become far too fluffy. People calling each other cunts left right and center... It's like a socialist free for all.

Does that mean she gets my check book?

Depends on how many checks are left in it. If you've got a lot of checks left, you must have tons of money, so she'll probably want to be your friend.

If you feel the need to call people names..In my opinion your saying much more about yourself than you ever could about that person. I find it Ironic that so many look to dominants to have it together..to have good character yet we can have people posting the exact opposite as evidence..All the while having others pat them on the back for it. How could you advocate school yard antics and still pretend you have put away childish things as a man. We all lose our cool at times but if it becomes a habit...you have a problem,

Keep on keeping on.

Dude, I hope I never put away childish things. Life would not be worth living if I did.

I actually like the seemingly lax new rules. It allows for some bullshit, yes, but the conversations are less stunted and people can finally express themselves in a more creative fashion without worrying that they'll get modwrath down their in-and-out tray as a consequence. So much more relaxed, and grown-up. I hope it remains that way.

I don't expect it would.

I agree. I think they got it just about right. I said in another thread that there are a couple of things I'd do differently if I were them, but I think overall they finally found the right balance. I imagine they'll tweak it a bit, and that it'll deviate a bit on one side of the line or the other as time goes by, but if they keep this as the ideal, I think they've got it right. If it winds up becoming too much like Fetlife, I'm out of here, but we'll just have to see how it all shakes out.

Exactamundo, Sanity. At last we agree on something. Happy New Year.

Twat, snatch, gash... Terminology. Same as it is, girl to girl, worldwide, we never tire of it. So give it up, bitch. Make us all happy.

Would you mind expanding on that please?  In comparing the two sites, I've often heard people say things like: CM has better thread formatting and search features, while FetLife has fewer scammer profiles and nasty-email senders.  You seem to be saying something different, though.  Are you?

I love the way you wrote this! I am not sure how much more grown up it all is though.

Can we all chip in to keep a few people away.

Not looking at holly.

EbonyWood, please take a look at this comment from LadyAngelika.

quote:

I'll just focus on starting threads that address real issues, get people thinking and evolving. For those who want trashy threads, there will be plenty to go around.

She's been starting threads for a few days now, and I'm not sure osf has posted on a single one of them.  Pathological narcissists are unable to talk about anything except themselves.

Please consider starting threads, too.  I am certain you have much more to contribute than some other people who have been posting a lot more.  If we want a message board that is closer to "best possible," we each have to do a little something to make it that way.

Red,

I don't devote so much of my spare time to this site to have a strong desire either way to start threads or see others discontinued.

I do hold the opinion that your contribution in no way equates to the number of threads you start or indeed even the number of posts you make. Like much of life, quality is king.

Whilst being very liberal in my life, I do believe in some censorship and moderation. You do too, you've signed on to a site you know to be moderated.

Absolute freedom can be as dangerous as absolute tyranny. I wasn't noticing the boards much in recent years to know if conditions were stricter as some have suggested, but I wouldn't like to see it swing the other way either. I'm not convinced that the self-policing argument put forward works, or of it does, it only works in time for the next transgressor to come along.

I just dont think the 'best possible' forum as you described it, exists - as there would be as many definitions of that as there are members.

So - if I ever find myself bothered to the point of action - the action is usually hitting the off switch, still the best means of censorship.

Since you raised osf's name, I will say that I stick more than ever to my original opinion. A troll in a suit feigning earnest questions is still a troll. Actions taken merely to elicit response and attention evoke pathos but nothing else from me. A sideshow can be briefly diverting, but not the umpteenth showing of an act that never had much plot or action to begin with. Then, when the cast starts heckling with the audience, you know its time to leave. Ad nauseum.

All the best.

Well, I think it's more grown-up because it feels less like we're in school under the watchful eye of rule-enforcement zealots, however benevolent and well-intentioned they may be... The ability to ruffle feathers is one of the joys of conversation, and the prohibition of sarcasm, irony and a number of other things had made these fora rather staid and sanitized - not that I have anything against hygiene, but sometimes, getting down and dirty is one of the pleasures of adulthood after all :-) . Besides, there was something seriously warped about people having to feel like they were walking on eggs in an adult forum such as this one: that irony was never lost on any of us, was it  ?

I dunno about "absolute freedom" and it's consequences since I've never experienced it. We've all seen the consequences of absolute power, but, absolute freedom ? Not yet. I suspect, as some posters have suggested, that absolute freedom, like water, will find it's own level. Why not try it ? We've tried everything else.

Besides, moderators still roam the place, so absolute freedom it ain't (do I sound suitably local?).

I wasn't posting at the time that others have described as overmoderated, cjan, so I'm just calling on the present status. I get pissed when I see friends called cunts, despite their ability to defend themselves.

I 'speak' in this place like I'm at a party or bar, trying never to say anything I wouldn't face to face.

Either way, I now have the image of Kitten walking on eggs, naked. For each egg she breaks, a little punishment comes her way...

Now that's a good topic.
