Brain -> Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever? (1/5/2010 7:49:45 PM)

I think this guy hit the nail on the head. Reagan is very much overrated and the cause of many problems we have today. I think it’s unfortunate right-wingers have gotten away with embellishing his presidency.

Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever?

The starting point for many of the catastrophes confronting the United States today can be traced to Reagan's presidency.

When it came to cutting back on America’s energy use, Reagan’s message could be boiled down to the old reggae lyric, “Don’t worry, be happy.” Rather than pressing Detroit to build smaller, fuel-efficient cars, Reagan made clear that the auto industry could manufacture gas-guzzlers without much nagging from Washington.

{{{Brain}} what a wonderful topic.
It gives me the warm fuzzies inside.
[;)]

It is hard to imagine anyone worst than George W. Bush, but I blame Ronald Reagan for working very hard to outsource as much of our country as possible, and certainly helped to give manufacturing in our country the great "heave ho" and out the door.
Sure, Ronnie is behind many Americans losing their jobs, to the companies that decided to run to 3rd world countries and pay the workers $3 a day.

That Ronnie, he was really something "else".
Ronald Reagan was a great friend to the American workers!

Warning, warning links ahead!

I do not know if I would go that far, I mean Bush has set the level rather high, but RR did start the whole tariff crap and corp tax crap that every President since has expanded

tazzygirl -> RE: Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever? (1/5/2010 8:09:52 PM)

With the deregulation of the mental health system, Reagan set up the platform to turn out many mentally unstable patients into society, leading to mass homelessness.

Worst? I still think Bush may hold that honor.. but.. Reagan was far from the best.

LadyEllen -> RE: Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever? (1/5/2010 8:26:05 PM)

Didnt the Savings & Loan thing arise under Reagan, him having deregulated the system?

Funny how the same thing came round again so quickly.

Yes we must be the only 2 who remember

Damn right we can thank Ronnie, for how well all the "free trade" agreements have worked for us.
We are in fucking debt to Red China, unemployment is sky high!
If you had told me 25 years ago, that we would be in debt to Red China, I would have said

you are insane.
Nafta shafta Americans have been screwed up the assta.

Well lets not forget, the war they are paying for is a huge part of the bill, I mean georgie put it on the China Credit Card so it would not have to be approved by congress

Remember... those GOP speeches, if you do not support the President' war spending bill you are supporting the terrorist.  Strange how ever since the GOP lost the election everyone (GOP)  votes NO for war spending now, and they do not see themselves as helping the terrorists

And how the Bushes benefitted from it.

Reagan is overrated, yes. A poor president, history will show.

But definitely, definitely, not the worst. We've had some doozies in our history.

i personally am quite tired of conservatives claiming that Ray-gun brought down communism because he gave a lot of money to defense contractors when in fact it was this brave man http://www.yachtingnet.com/time/time100/leaders/profile/walesa.html and his Solidarity brothers who ended communism from within under threat of imprisonment or personal harm.

This was to give Republicans a bigger base.

Hehehehehe.   Yep.  Lefties HATE President Reagan.  And if you want to know how this country thinks, look at his re-election numbers from '84.

Ya'll have fun.

SweetPoosy -> RE: Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever? (1/5/2010 9:17:54 PM)

You know, I've always maintained that President Reagan really WAS killed by John Hinckley Jr, and they just brought in an actor to play his part. [:D]

Such an erudite, well thought out response (the Starland Vocal Band sold a lot of records that doesn't mean that they were good musicians, only that the populace was willing to pay for their pap).

ya'll have fun (snark snark)

LadyEllen -> RE: Ronald Reagan: Worst President Ever? (1/5/2010 9:44:39 PM)

Now we know the majority are dim-witted, ignorant, lazy, stupid and barely think at all, and consequently will vote for anyone who seems like their kind of guy, but honestly Rich, you neednt have thrown all that away on a past incumbent when its one of those evergreen truths?

Actually, Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert ARE excellent musicians and songwriters. It's just a shame that the world won't remember their amazing harmonies because of one song.

BTW, they wrote John Denver's "Take Me Home Country Roads", and Bill and Emmy Lou Harris wrote "Boulder to Birmingham".

Just wanted to set the record straight.

Just his policies.

I was independent until Reagan.

These are not really serious rankings; it is rather political left wing propaganda. Wikipedia gives some serious scholarly data:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Historical_rankings_of_United_States_Presidents

As much as I remember, president Reagan was at least very likable. Also, he was capable of strong decisive action.

Especially if you have an agenda to deflect from the discussion of an overrated puppet.
