Vile and SuperWhackJob Fred Phelps and his band-o-twatvirgins are coming to my town protest a showing of the play, ""The Laramie Project."

My son is going to counter-protest and has asked me to go along...

This kind of thing is so vomit-inducing to me that I'd rather not, although I fully support his view. I just imagine spittle-spewed screeches traded back and forth and I wonder, to what end? Would it be better to ignore them? Are they too horrific to be ignored?

Would you endeavor to counter-protest? What would it make you feel?

p.s. my son just turned 18 so he's not really an UM. <sob>

The edited segments that will be shown will make everyone look like knuckleheads. Thats what they do.

While it is impossible to expect. I would think ignoring them completely is the way to go.

But it would have to be total. Acting as if they weren't there. And perhaps filling the theater.

It would be quite unattractive. I hadn't thought of that. What if I had a Julia Roberts forehead vein all blue and puffed up with outrage and it got picked up on the teevee? ~shudder~

If you expose your tits, they won't show it on TV......... send me the stills.

Mind your own vein.

Why not run a fund-raising pledge instead?

KU used to do this during gay pride week.

Have people pledge so much money for each on-the-side-of-Phelps-protester that shows up.

Pick a good charity (something to do with gay pride I am guessing) and send the money to them.

Make sure that you send a nice thank you note to Freddy-baby for his help in raising x-amount of dollars for whatever charity.

'Course! Also, could you send your tit pics to Jeffffffff in my place? He's obviously so over mine since he can't remember how many times he's seen them.

Thanks!

"God is laughing, for you are all going to hell! You're all a sodomite nation of devil worshippers.

The Laramie Project is a tawdry bit of banal fag melodrama—sordid, cheap, unaffecting, drearily predictable—without the least artistic or literary merit or redeeming social value. Indeed, its only purpose is to promote sinful, soul-damning sodomy by playing on the sick, maudlin emotions of doomed, godless America and thereby to recruit ill-bred teenagers to lives of sin, shame, disease, death and hell!"

~ Fred

My god, Subtee... I wish your son the best. I'm with Jeffff, somehow, and think that these individuals are probably better ignored... on the other hand, I love Aylee's idea :-) .

Okay. . . I have now read this quote from Freedy-Baby. . . I had assumed that the movie was about that kid that was killed for being gay in WY.  Am I wrong?  And no, I cannot recall his name at the top of my head right now.  It was Matthew something.

subtee -> RE: Phelps' Wellsboro Whirling Circus and HateShow is Coming to Town! (1/14/2010 4:31:18 PM)

Kittin, my son is rather a man for his young years. He will do fine; thank you for your good wishes.

Aylee you are correct:

The Laramie Project is a play by Moisés Kaufman and members of the Tectonic Theater Project about the reaction to the 1998 murder of University of Wyoming gay student Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. The murder is widely considered to be a hate crime motivated by homophobia.[1]
The play draws on hundreds of interviews conducted by the theatre company with inhabitants of the town, company members' own journal entries and published news reports ~wikipedia

[edit] Combating homophobia
The Laramie Project is often used as a method to teach about prejudice and tolerance in personal, social, and health education and citizenship in schools, and it has also been used in the UK as a General Certificate of Secondary Education text for English literature.
The play has also inspired grassroots efforts to combat homophobia.

The preceding is from the Wikipedia reference to the Laramie Project ... written and performed after a gay murder of a college student. Sounds like Kittin is a little homophobic herself, or has no idea what she is referencing.  She needs to take a bit longer before she tries to quote things to substanciate her claims and make sure that they are actually helping instead of hindering her arguments. It is a pity that you dare to invoke God's name and show such intolerence in the same sentence.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm. But wasn't Kittin quoting Phelps?

popeye1250 -> RE: Phelps' Wellsboro Whirling Circus and HateShow is Coming to Town! (1/14/2010 4:42:31 PM)

I think that kid's name was "Mathew Sheppard."
Subtee, tell everyone to eat like pigs a few days before they get there and save their shitlogs and do a drive by!
Also, wrist rocket sling shots with ball bearings! There's all kinds of things you can do, use your imagination!

xxblushesxx -> RE: Phelps' Wellsboro Whirling Circus and HateShow is Coming to Town! (1/14/2010 4:44:55 PM)

Yes, Kytenn was quoting Phelps. She is NOT homophobic. (I'm pretty durn sure.)

mefisto69 -> RE: Phelps' Wellsboro Whirling Circus and HateShow is Coming to Town! (1/14/2010 4:48:53 PM)

how about hitting all the dumpsters behind supermarkets and restaurants and showering Fred and gang with what they are.

You might want to go back and read Kittin's post.  She was quoting the yay-who that is going to be doing the protest about the movie.  I think that her wishes for Subtee's son were right on the money.
