i think W/we use knife play differently thank most. While sometimes He takes it out to use as a mindfuck, its mostly just artistic play. frequently after sex He will take out the knife and draw designs and patterns across my breats and stomach [W/we are not into blood play] He has actually created some very beautiful work, that can last for days.

i edit because i realized something, while He does not take me down with the knife, i suppose it is still a mindfuck for me, just having it drawn accross my skin. i am frozen the whole time, never knowing if this time, He will decide to draw blood. i am deff petrified of knives.

At the risk of bringing back an old thread (hope that's ok!) my take on knifeplay is quite unusual in a kinky context. After years of fencing and stage combat and historical martial arts training, I am not afraid of knives. I'm not afraid of blood, or the pain they can inflict. I've given and received bruises about 7" square, and have drawn blood on others, as well as still have scars from swords going where they ought not. So I guess all my demons have fled.

Knife play for me is relaxing, I practically fell asleep in my first ever knife play scene while my dominant friend worked for a good 40 minutes, tracing a modernistic, geometric pattern over the whole of my back. It felt to me like a lovely massage, and I'd be more than willing to do that again. Unfortunately the pattern faded in about twelve hours -- I would have liked it to last longer. Was there pain? A little, but nothing to make me worry. Was I afraid? No. I completely trusted the gent making the marks. I would happily have stayed there under his hand for the rest of the night. I never got into subspace, but it was certainly something that made me feel good for hours afterwards.

When you trust whoever has the knife, and you know what they can do and that you're NOT going to get skewered, knife play can be amazingly good.

As with anything, part of the mind phuck comes from someone thinking something is going to happen and it doesn't, or at least not in the way they expect.
I love to lay out sharp pointy things. All types from dentist tools, drill bits/drill, knives of all types of blades even kitchen ones. I've even got some items from the tool box. When they are laid out prettily you bring the sub around to show them all your wonderful gadgets making sure to pick up the really nasty looking ones that you can cut a feather with. Then you bind, blindfold, gag whatever is your kink. Telling them what instrument you are going to use on them can be delicious, espcially if there was any of them that they reacted to with wide eyes.
Course..you don't have to use any of them actually cause I find some manicure items, plastic knives, plastic spatulas etc plus even business cards can give that nice edge feeling. Especially if you use it in VERY sensitive areas like the groin or nipples.
Talking to the sub while you use the 'easy' objects, weaving a story of how sharp the blade is, how easily it can pierce the skin...can produce shivers! Most of my subs have LOVED knife play; some enjoy cutting. When I use real knives, I'll scratch the skin, sometimes using the points to make the sub think I"m going to pierce them. Inserting knives into the vagina [after the knife has been coated with latex so it won't cut of course] then hold a mirror and have the sub look at your handywork. It can be priceless. Also works for anal area. Or to complete the mind phuck, you take a handle off of a extreme knife you have or get a duplicate, you attach it to the top of a strapon, once it's inserted the sub only would see the handle of the 'knife'. Always make sure you tell the sub to be very very still!
