Isn't Ruger an Italian company? Stick to S&W or Colt.

Ruger and colt are u.s. s&w is britt.

My mistake. I didn't know we had any gun manufacturers over here still besides Purdy.

My understanding was that ownership was transfered to the britts but the manufacturing facilities are still in the u.s. It was in an article in the nra publication from a couple of years ago. What struck me about it was that the new ownership gave the entire database of customers to batf without ever having been asked for it. Which is why I will never buy another new s&w.

Moonhead -> RE: Is this a racist comment? (6/3/2010 8:48:56 AM)

Wouldn't the batf know about them already if they have a firearms license?

Not necessarily since new laws and regs are not ex post facto.

Racist? Without a doubt...also funny.

The other thing I find sort of funny is the way my fellow lefties are making excuses...its a racist joke, and a pretty funny one at that.

Should he apologise? Not on your life...he's a comedian, he's in the business of making jokes, he should just let it stand.

Damn, Arpig.

Sometimes I just hate it when you prove that a liberal can be reasonable, and right.[8D][:D]

Some of that would depend on who said it and in what context.

I knew you could still make a reasonable post Pahunk. [;)]

What is it with cons trying to trick the libs into admitting to something they want them to admit to?

Guilt.

But further.

rich has a problem with Maher.Called him a bigot before and stuff.

Picking out selected quotes and repeating them out of context to elicit a desired negative response.

That`s like the bread and butter of conservative political discourse lately .Just look at the Rev.Write-scary-black-man routine we suffered from cons.

rich isn`t trying to help or be uplifting but rather trying to shit on someone else.

He doesn`t feel genuine outrage for the black community or Obama, personally.

He wants others to feel that way,for what reason only he can say.

It could be b/c his party and fellow conservatives are so guilty of racism, that they are obsessed with trying to make liberals look like racists.

Conservative for years have been laboring under this burden of guilt.Their party has court supervised consent decrees for voter suppression that are still in place to this day!!!

http://www.nytimes.com/2009/12/03/us/politics/03voting.html

“It does not appear that the R.N.C.’s incentive to suppress minority votes has changed since 1982,” Judge Debevoise wrote, citing statistics showing that most minority voters support Democrats. “It appears that the R.N.C. has been largely unsuccessful in its efforts to attract minority voters. Until it is able to do so, it will have an incentive to engage in the type of voter suppression that it allegedly committed in the actions that led to the enactment and modification of the consent decree.”

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caging_(voter_suppression)

Why is it that rich`s party always seems to single out minority voters, to suppress?

With guilt and association like that, some try to throw shit on others."Hey,see, those guys over there...they`re bad too".

Anyone who knows about Bill Maher knows his not racist or bigoted. No one and no institution is safe from his satire.

He was making fun of the stereo type and those that believe them.It requires some sophistication to get the joke and understand it`s intended victim.

I think it`s b/c Maher has pegged rich and his brethren so effectively, that it`s Bill he/they seem to pick on.

Didn`t hear a peep from cons when Maher made jokes about Muslims....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iSixNyQFhpM

Why is that?[8|]

"You know, this is where I want a real black president. I want him in a meeting with the BP CEOs where he lifts up his shirt so they can see the gun in his pants."

Simple question. Is the above statement racist or not?

In terms of how racism is defined...in terms of the norm.....then within those boundaries....yes...of course it's racist...

It's drawing on the incidence of gun related violence among a minority of the population and using that as a generalisation....so yeah...racist...

Which of course is the answer you're looking for....so you can say: "if that had been said by a neo-con people would have been up in arms"......and of course you're right again.

Musicmystery -> RE: Is this a racist comment? (6/3/2010 11:08:08 AM)

Not to mention that today, any reference to race whatsoever is labeled "racist."

It's a way to shut down, not open, debate.

Not. It's irreverent.

In the context and knowledge that rush and savage really are genuine racists,a joke like would be in bad faith and not satire.

An example of this would be if Rush Limbaugh said "I hate white people," and laugh. The whole world would know he was just joking.

Let Louis Farrakhan say "I hate white people" and laugh. NO ONE would think he was  joking. He is a racist!

We know that Rush does not hate whites. We know that Louis does. So Louis's jokes about whites are not funny at all.

I have never heard farrakhan tell a joke.
I have never heard farakhan say something that was not true.

disciple0247 -> RE: Is this a racist comment? (6/3/2010 12:01:59 PM)

Agree with LadyC. Why do people conflate "conservative" with "racist"? The concepts are not even categorically comparable. Farakhan is explicitly racist, if by "racist" one means "hater of a certain race".
