The Irish accent is hard to understand.

Between the dialect and the odd phrases.

It is like the States. Tracey Ullman used to do an American accent, it was great.

But there are hundreds of differtent accents here. Except Chicago, I have no accent.

There is some truth to that.

Voice coaches - - push- what - ends up to be Chicago- the closest it comes to no accent. Which is much of what you see on TV.

less a few quirks of course.

There aren't a huge number of famous people from Leicester, with the accent. There's a band that've made it big since this incident, and there's Emile Heskey, footballer.

Years ago, I was suddenly enlightened on the accent front when a voice came on tv that sounded....strange.
I couldn't identify it at all. Spun round, there was Heskey, being interviewed.
He sounded strange because he had no accent. I'd never have been able to recognise his voice again....he just sounded....normal. A voice with no distinguishing features beyond 'male'. Even hearing a new tv voice, I can from then on know roughly what they sound like, and identify them. Could hear heskey yak for hours and have no idea what he sounded like.

Accent wise down here were I now live I am thought to be a scouser, up there were I come from I am thought to be a soft southern shandy. My ex employer after two years working for him discovered I was not in fact Irish as he had assumed. So from that I can deduce what accents that were part of the UK have now largely ceased to be so, as people move around, relocate for the purposes of employment , retirement and just seeking a better life, myself fitting into the latter grouping, a place where I can slow down and watch the world go by, which just happens to be the part of the UK where the alternative types and artists gravitate to.

Of the US, I just love the southern drawl, the Dolly Parton tone, it is so carrot crunchy, antiquated and sexy a delight to hear.

But aside from our accents, what do you know about the Brits, seeing as according to that apparent font of all wisdom Wikipedia displays a map constructed from census statistics in the US to show where those with British ancestry are located within America ;

The Americans I have read, like their film villains to be English. This dichotomy of Englishness and villainy seems to please. I suppose its a historical thing, related to the War for Independence.

When I was younger dreaming at night of my future I made a decision to have a child in England. My child could have that accent if I could not.

I am torn between the London accent and Lady Di's. I like the way she says attchewlee. So cute. Too bad she is dead, she was pretty.

I love black tea. Typhoo, PG Tips. I like how cute the styles are that come out of London. The music can be really great too.

I like when North American actors do English accents and when they marry english men and move over there and get a bit of an accent too. So cute.

All the rain they get is sad, maybe when the axis tilts or whatever may occur, England will get far less rain and let's say, Serbia will get more.

I like England even though their history is a tad spooky in spots and people like the queen and Richard Branson who are so rich in land and cash could probably really do wonders to help wipe out the third world and help make us all first world. I think Richard is trying anyway.

I like England it comes across as hip, pretty, funny, great humor. I like the culture.

I love reading English authors, it is so fun. I like when English authors try and write in North American. They usually give themselves away some where along the way, maybe by calling a garbage bag a bin liner or something like that.

I bet North American authors would do the same if they tried to write in English English.

England rocks!

English accent is awesome and Canadian accent not so much.

I think it's more because British actors can usually act and project a lot better than the American ones can. Villains usually get a lot more dialogue than the heroes of an action flick, after all.
(Mind you, I'm told a lot of Americans used to think Vincent Price was English. WTF?)
