Perhaps we can make it on topic.....

Uhmmmmm, shameless and worthless image promotion by trying to show how cool we are because we hang out and know one another personally??

Or is that stretching it a bit too thin?

this is a good time to offer public congratulations for being honored last weekend with a 'Robe of Consideration' from the 'House of Merc'!

Really? I have felt a bit left out but was doing my best to be a good sport about it all, so thank you!

Yep, and ever since you told me how much you enjoyed their company I have looked forward to meeting them. Some of us really are acquired tastes and come across better in person. Oh, and the reason the Brit's drink warm beer is because they have Lucas refrigerators.

What image are you trying to project here? Merc has paid for hotel rooms to host CM get togethers, he has probably met more people from CM than anyone else, what is wrong with taking joy in that? I once drove almost two hours to meet SunshineMiss when she had a stop in SF. Doesn't make me cool and none of us have ever claimed otherwise. So please explain how any of that is "shameless" if you would.

The image I try and project is as best I can, one that is truly "me". I am a no-nonsense guy, I hold myself to at least as high a standard as I hold others, I do my best to teach from a place of humility and have probably written more about my mistakes and issues than many posting in this thread have about their virtues. I love deeply and passionately when I do and have no trouble speaking my mind and owning the consequences. I am abrasive and I own that too but I feel that it is tempered by my willingness to be open and vulnerable here and expose myself to the same sort of microscope I focus on others.

Clearly some appreciate that and others don't.

Snipped because I really don't care about the other validation stuff.

Good question.... I seriously don't think I am trying to project any image, at least not consciously. I just come here to visit, have some fun, occasionally tweak some thoughts in my brain. I haven't a clue what 'image' I have or whether or not I care to attempt to project one. If someone from here has a, less than glorious, image of me.......I cannot say that I care enough to be any different than I am.

Some will appreciate it and others will not. It's not something I give any thought to.

I learned a very long time ago that I cannot please everyone nor will everyone like me. That is okay with me........great actually. Especially if I will not find them pleasing or likable. It saves me trying to shake them.

And I screwed up the quote thingy.......so much for my image of computer geekdom.

No Problem - You are Welcome! I appreciate that more times then not, what I type does not come across in the manner intended.

BTW - Anytime what I post something where my toenails grow over the 'line' - feel free to use the heavy single tail whip - On beth of course!

You know I love and respect you and ALL who keep the CM fires burning.

If this is about image and someone is called out on how they are perceived, saying we expose our selves to the same thing we dish out rings hollow if it isn't demonstrated.

Micheal, you never hesitate to call people out. When some one calls you out, your typed words betray insecurity and outrage.

This may not be the case, but to me , that's how it reads.

When I choose to call someone out, I am right more often than not. If someone calls me on my shit and they are right, I have no problem owning it. I do however, get a bit grumpy when people who are about as gregarious as people get are called snobs because they "gasp" met people from CM and enjoy the fact.

Jefff, in your time here, what is the worst thing you have shared about yourself? How deeply have you shared about your internal processes, fears, failures, tribulations? I have done all that and will continue to do so, I leave plenty of "ammo" for people to call me out because I don't mind's' being vulnerable and think that newbies learn far more from that than people who's primary contribution is to toss off clever remarks when they find an opening for a potshot.

The above post is a perfect example of the insecurity that seeps through and how.

Just saying...

Except Julia had to type faster than I.

Actually, while I appreciate your post, this topic in fact is not about you or your party. Back on topic please.

edited to add: I am also leaving this post, so others can see how in effect you also have the gang mentality and had to stick up for your friend and wind it up with a snide comment at the end. Still feel all proud of yourself?

I don't know.  Is it especially off topic?

The reason that I say that is going back to the original and some things that have come up through the course of the thread.  (Parts that are still up, I promise you.)  Haven't we really been talking about the supposed image that gets portrayed and how to sift through that?

The internet is a great thing.  We have discussion boards like this one, resources to information, and many other benefits.  One thing it doesn't come with is it's own bullshit detector.  On an interactive forum such as this one, all we really do have is each other.  It's the only way to get that going.

I think the process gets helped along a bit when you have folks who are willing to say, "yes, I know that person away from the screen".  Even better when you get the opportunity to see them play or how the people interact in their dynamic.  If we had more of that, this image that is supposedly out there wouldn't be as hard to shatter.  More of what is actually real would come through.

I have shared some, not a great deal, but some. I will not share very much. It isn't anyone's business.

Newbies will learn the way we all learn, by making mistakes. By meeting people and learning as they go.

Your experiences are good for you. That doesn't mean they are good for everyone. Just the other day you declared that emotional masochism is not kink.
I can dig that it isn't for you. I can't see how you can make that statement.

I am indeed guilty of pot shots. Perhaps my message is not to take all this TOO seriously

I will agree that you have a valid point that it is great when others are able to meet and see "real life" dynamics. Sometimes, for various reasons, there are posters and users, while not fakers or scammers or even wannabes, cannot get out and meet others at large, and at times, because of life or location, may not be able to meet anyone from site. Even if they could, your dynamic may not be anything they are interested in.....there are a lot of people that, unlike You and I, do not live WIITWD 24/7. They are either unable or unwilling to;does that make them any less real? No. But outwardly, they may appear to be a wannabe. Sometimes, then, the image that is given is not totally accurate of the person within. Images are just that, and what rings true when you meet someone, may not ring the same to another.

THis was in response to LadyPact, and my only post as a poster in all probability for today.........**wanders off, hoping to not have to spank anyone else, ON THE BOARDS, today** as to real life, well a Lady can only hope!!!!
