ORIGINAL: tiggerspoohbear There are groups here but finding them is nigh impossible as they seem to be hidden behind a bureaucracy that is unwilling to tell you about them. I'm waiting to have a mobile crisis team get in touch with me, they have access to a psychiatrist. If I can't get an appt with him/her fast enough my nurse practicioner has 2 she can refer me to at the hospital in the city. I'm hoping the ACT group is all they claim to be, the CMHA worker I was assigned to had initially told me that after the 2nd appt with her she'd come visit and then it would be home visits from that time forward. I went for the 2nd appt, she told me everything seemed fine and there was no need for her to come see me. I later found out that they don't like having to drive out where I live because it's considered "too far" and they just don't feel like it. Well phooooey on them, and I want nothing to do with them any further. A good reason to try to find them is usually once you do, you feel less alone. Also, they are the best way to effect change within your mental health care system. It isn't fast but 2 people, or 4, 8, 12 etc make a lot more noise than one person on their own and being involved will make you feel empowered. You can make a difference. It will take time but you matter and your story matters and deserves to be told. You have been fighting this alone for a very long time. Knowing you aren't alone could make a big difference.
