Name calling is the most detestable form of expression I have found in human beings, as that I see it as a last resort for a fucking loser.

..............."I am thirsty"
"Get something to drink"
OR
"I am thirsty"
"Get something to drink you moron"

In the latter instance there are nine keystrokes that were uncalled for, and totally useless, except in the case of an example such as I have given. Got it ?

So would that be anything like the difference between saying  "Name calling is the most detestable form of expression I have found in human beings, as that I see it as a last resort" and saying  "Name calling is the most detestable form of expression I have found in human beings, as that I see it as a last resort for a fucking loser"?

One must make the distinction also between stupidity and ignorance. Stupidity can be cured by learning, ignorant people don't want to learn because they think they know it all.

Um, you have got this backwards, T. Typing too fast, I expect.

HATARI!

LadyEllen -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 3:11:01 PM)

Youre all idiots, imbeciles or morons for having failed to include dolt.

Or maybe that makes you all dolts.

What would I know? I'm a cat. My IQ is mid 50s best.

tazzygirl -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 3:17:40 PM)

mo·ron (môrn, mr-)
n.
1. A stupid person; a dolt.
2. Psychology A person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive.

moron [ˈmɔːrɒn]
n
1. a foolish or stupid person
2. (Psychology) a person having an intelligence quotient of between 50 and 70, able to work under supervision

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/moron

I do believe that covers dolt. [:D]

But you are forgiven for not knowing that.

mnottertail -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 3:19:10 PM)

And he shall be moron;
and he shall be a dumb man;
and he shall be moron;
in tradition with the family plan.........

playfulotter -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 3:20:22 PM)

Well, I think of those three words as names you call someone of regular or above intelligence when they act below their normal intelligence....I think we are supposed to call those who have a below average IQ now "Special" as retarded is frowned upon....Jeez it is getting hard to remember all the new rules! I would never call anyone retarded anyway but it is kind of like the little people don't like to be called what they used to be called.

MnOttertail...I don't think that has to do with IQ but personality!

If I called you an idiot you'd think I meant you had an IQ <70?

Bollocks. You're just arguing semantics to be awkward, it's an extremely common word universally understood to mean 'lacking intelligence'...nobody...anywhere....uses idiot as a technical term meaning 50<IQ<70.

Actually, when in a debate of any kind, using words like "idiot" and "moron" tends to show me the intelligence of the person utilizing those words.

If you have to resort to attacking the poster with such mundane words, then you have already lost the war, imho.

More bollocks, winning or losing an argument depends on the validity of your points, not the words you use.

Hang on, I recall a good example.

Okay, a while back on this forum some nutter was going on about...a load of bullshit really, and ended up saying (among a lot of other equally incorrect things)

"So your point is that you are too fucking lazy to actually go to google and look this shit up.
So you post up like some adolescent mongoloid saying prove it...prove it...prove it.

If you had the balls that god gave a girlscout you would post up some refutation but so far all we have is your mouth wide open with nothing coming out."

I then pointed out that...all of those claims were factually inaccurate (me not having bothered looking into it, me saying anything like 'prove it', and...however you want to phrase the last one), and asked if he was gonna take back his insults he said.

"I have not insulted you"

I proceeded to call him a cunt....so, questions.
Does me calling him a cunt make him right and me wrong, despite the reality of the situation?
Does anyone think I was suggesting he was literally a vagina?
Was it wrong for me to simply move to insulting him rather than spend another 4 pages discussing?...bearing in mind he was essentially saying that black was white and up was down, over and over round in circles (on many other topics than the having insulted me, it was a pahunk like thread, but madder & ruder)
Is it not that insults are universally understood not to be literally taken as any technical definitions they may have, but as the common insulting usage?

Ha. In the words of The Cat, good point well made.

If you feel the need to call someone a "cunt" then proceed to do so. I never told you not too. However, when i read such, i tend to just roll my eyes and gloss over the rest of the post.

Im sure you understand the why.

DCWoody -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 7:20:56 PM)

But you can't see that using insults isn't necessarily a sign of weakness in your arguments or intelligence?

Jeffff -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 7:32:34 PM)

I see it as a huge weakness in both.

Jeffff -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 7:36:39 PM)

I don't. It is like when people say profanity lessens your argument.

What sort of fucking idiot believes that?

Well given the example I gave earlier that's just ridiculous. I think we're done here.

tazzygirl -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 7:51:19 PM)

Now you know why i gloss over many of your posts. Do enjoy your evening.

TheHeretic -> RE: Moron ! (7/12/2010 8:06:36 PM)

Nice to know I've been using the word properly. Do they have a standardized breakdown for high functioning vs. complete morons?
