From the looks of this thread, kids are gonna keep learning about sex on the streets like we had to.

Unfortunately, many of the parents that would be against the school education will strictly limit the kids access to the internet also. So yeah.........YAYYYYYY for learning it the way we did!

If I ever have children I want to teach them the correct word for the correct part, and correct word for the correct function, like I don't want someone teaching them cutesie words for bowel functions, I don't want them , when they have to go pee, being told to call it " I have to tinkle" "or wee wee" or " boom boom" for pooping.

Daddy says then if I do that be prepared for CPS to be banging down my door and investigating me for possible abuse of my child, because CPS cuold find that suspicious and cause for abuse investigations.

I think it's a bit of parinoa, but who knows they could.

Education is nice, but that's not going to stop the worst from happening, or lesson its chances of happening, or make the child able to put a stop to what's happening if the molester uses fear and co orsion to do the deed.

I knew about sex ed, I knew what the body parts were for, their functions, their purposes, I wasn't some naive un informed little kid when I was molested, and that didn't stop the molestation, didn't slow it down one bit.

I knew that if I blew the whistle on it I would be the one loosing everything, my home, my family, my life, my dog, my friends. I would be the one being put into a group home. I feared that, and I actually had every right to fear that, since I suffered more forms of abuse in the system and from group home staff, and other girls I lived with, than I feel I ever did being molested.

I wish an awful lot I have never reported my abuse, and had found some other way out of a bad home life, that did not involve the authorities. And I am not talking about suicide.

Just informationally -- the correct terms for this are "urinate" and "defaecate" (which may equally be technically substituted with "have a bowel movement", which is what medical facilities often use).

Pee and poop are also euphamisms, just like "tinkle" and "BM" (which are what I grew up with), "wee wee" and "boom boom", or #1 and #2.

I have cousins that call it giving birth to a baby democrat....

We called it wee wee and grunting when I was a kid. Farting was busting a bean, and I hada coochie and my brother hada ding dong.

All of that said, I am not sure if education would have given me the strenght to report it when I started getting molested. In my case, it was a close family member, and I believed him when he told me the bad things that would happen if I told. I am not sure having been taught differently at school would have changed that....

After reading the pdf file that my self and someone else linked earlier, I do support what this school district is trying to do though. It is basic stuff, and doesn't seem to want to teach morals, just the facts so to say.

Sex education for children is not about telling them how to have sex, its about telling them things that are appropriate for their age and level of understanding.

When a young child asks where babies come from, and they are told that they are brought by storks or "the fairies" or other lies, it just confuses the children, they know its not true, and may go and experiment, or hear wild rumors.

I can still remember asking my parents where babies came from after my sister was born, which would make me about 6 years old. My mother told me that "Daddy puts a seed in Mummy's tummy and it combines with an egg in Mummy's tummy, and that grows into a baby". At the time that was enough explanation for me, and it was correct. I never considered how the seed got there, or how the baby got out.

For much older children you can start telling them about contraception or abstinence. Its amazing how many teenagers believe that you can get pregnant from kissing or toilet seats, or that you can't get pregnant the first time you have sex, or you can't get pregnant if you wash out your vagina after sex, or you can't get pregnant if your hymen is unbroken.

Teenagers *will* experiment whether you have some fairy-tale idea of their innocence or not, and its better that they know that condoms protect against pregnancy and STIs, as does abstinence.

There is a parent opt out so what is the big deal just opt out. What this is really about is whipping up a furore over the issue because most people know modern parents have microscopic control over what their children experience. i.e. it's not about your children (because you can opt out) it's about the choices other parents may make (who may opt in).
