Brain -> The Christian right prepares itself for another day in the trenches (8/7/2010 1:59:21 AM)

I heard the building will have an exhibit to condemn the terrorists responsible for 911. I think it would be good to have an Islamic mosque that preaches terrorism is wrong.

The Christian right prepares itself for another day in the trenches

According to the Associated Press in New York, the decision that will pave the way for the erection of a Mosque and Islamic Community Centre two blocks from ground zero will face a court challenge this week. The battle to erect the building gained some momentum yesterday when the conservation group surveying the planning approval denied landmark status to the Victorian building that currently sits there.

Brain, a LOT of people don't want it there. Fuck the right wing Christians!
And how will they get insurance after it goes up the first two or three times? (And it will!)
You just superglue the hydrants in the area. And the standpipe that goes into the building!
And they have stuff that's a lot stronger than superglue too.
Can you imagine the Firefighters?
"Fire Alarm, fire at the mosque!"
"Hey Mike, I have to take a dump, I'll be with you in a couple of minutes!"
"Take your time Charlie, I'll make a pot of coffee!"
"Damn, can you believe this shit, someone "stole the keys" to the fire truck!"
Would you want to be the insurance agent who writes a policy on that building?
Just looking at that picture I can see about five differant ways to attack that building.

"Firefighters had extreme difficulty getting water onto the fire from non-functioning hydrants and had to lay supply lines from six blocks away."

People probably would not be so teed off about this if they had actually started re-building the twin towers instead of all the screwing around they have done with it.

Arpig -> RE: The Christian right prepares itself for another day in the trenches (8/7/2010 3:15:19 PM)

Should be a non-issue and would be if so more people were reasonable

marshalp -> RE: The Christian right prepares itself for another day in the trenches (8/8/2010 4:45:06 AM)

I don't understand why are people opposed to a community center with actively condemns the 9/11 terrorists...

get over the hype... be mature & reasonable

Reading popeye's post should give you an insight into that one, sadly.

I am not so sure. Silverstein after over 30 years with no deal on the WTC got a 99 year lease with $3.5 billion per terrorist attack insurance coverage.

So...nothing at all for over 30 years on that bldg., then they got a deal and with a very unusual insurance clause and Silverstein gets $7 Billion...3.5 per. Guess who...AIG. Isn't that precious ?

So yes, there is insurance available with the right connections. Trouble is of course...you can't cite the bldg. for code or anything...they'll just blow it up in another 'terrosit attack' and could collect big time.

Maybe it has something to do with the views of the Imam...

The US and the West must acknowledge the harm they have done to Muslims before terrorism can end... Speaking from his New York mosque, Imam Feisal said the West had to understand the terrorists' point of view.

That`s a bunch of fearmonger bullshit.

Bon appetit.

Once you post a link from atlasshrugs, you pretty much say I enjoy reading from the right-wing lunatic fringe.

Why did you post that link from that site and then remove it?

That was kinda dishonest.

Just take a look at this site folks.Check out the feature stories.Birthers, the phony black panther shit, etc.

This is where much of the ugly/hateful/weird/racebaiting/fearmonger/Islamaphobic ideas coalesce.

Before I saw your comment I decided to go with a direct quote instead of the Atlas Shrugged piece, so I'm reposting the link for anyone who wants to evaluate your literate and tightly-reasoned rebuttal.

Only to an asshat who thinks he can read minds. I did a search on the Imam's name. Never saw the site before.

Why did you post that link from that site and then remove it?

Because even though I thought the piece made a fair call on the bullshit the Imam was spinning, I realized after I clicked on the "About" link out of curiosity that certain fair-minded and objective people would pull a trash job on the author and ignore everything else.

I would have liked to think you knew me better than to say something like that.

Owner59 -> RE: The Christian right prepares itself for another day in the trenches (8/8/2010 7:32:44 AM)

Bullshit.

You can`t read and ascribe to atlasshrugs without the crazy rubbing off.

Sorry.

But you knew that when you 1st removed the link.

Bullshit? So now, according to you, I've been dishonest twice? Yeah, I'm sorry too.

Have a nice day.

There's something controversial in that quote?

My point was, the objection does not appear to arise simply because it's a mosque. When I ran a search, the views of the Imam seemed prominent among the objections. I can't imagine his idea that the President of the United States should give "an 'America Culpa' speech to the Muslim world" sitting well with a lot of people.

Moonhead -> RE: The Christian right prepares itself for another day in the trenches (8/8/2010 8:41:32 AM)

I'm sure it wouldn't. That said, how long have a lot of the American right been demanding an apology from all muslims, regardless of their sect or politics for? This is an attitude you get on both sides, sadly.

Oh sure, that's when they'll start with the anti-Israel crap!
They want a soapbox. I thought we didn't deal with terrorists? Except to kill them.

Of course we do,  or is your memory faulty?
