Thank you. I'm in love too. I got her last Saturday, and she is smart. Smarter than the Jack Russells!

All of our petkids are adorable. In one of the threads DRH posted a pic of Herman the turtle, and he's a cutie too!

Aileen1968 -> RE: PetsRus (8/20/2010 2:21:54 PM)

I'm down to two guinea pigs who are here with us at the beach house.
They are chomping on left over watermelon.
I miss my dog and would like to get another in the future if Shore gives me permission.
Most likely a mutt.
I'd like to get a couple of cats too since this is the first time in my life since I was eight that I haven't had a cat.

He is. I'm actually fine with it, too... though sometimes I really do miss having a dog or cat.

I just don't miss the dog or cat hair... or cleaning the litterbox... or walking the dog... or things getting chewed/scratched up... or not being able to travel on a minutes notice.

No doubt about the responsibilities and the issues with having them but I wouldn't have it any other way. They enrich your lives and to me that makes the issues almost non-existent.

I went years without having a pet around and now that I do I can't see a life without them here.

LaTigresse -> RE: PetsRus (8/20/2010 2:29:11 PM)

I think dog hair dust bunnies will forever be a part of my home decor.

SorceressJ -> RE: PetsRus (8/20/2010 2:32:28 PM)

I could never go years without having an animal around. I'd go the rest of the way crazy, and I'm not being melodramatic when I say that. My very first kitten, a fat little orange tabby name of Gatito, selected me when I was two, and it's all been true love without care for material concerns ever since..

The mutts seem to have less health issues as well

I've always had mutts except for Smokey (a German Shepherd)  when I was a child and Zoe. Zoe has food allergies and sheds a good bit because of it. I've changed the diet and it's totally under control now except for the shedding..Which isn't too too bad.

Smokey had hip problems that are problematic for that breed.

Other than that we've always had mutts when it came to dogs.

I admit it can be tedious at times to have to change the sheets or dust the bed off but again...It's really a small thing.

They sleep with me BTW..I don't know how many people allow that for their pets but I do mine.

Yeah sometimes in hindsight you see what you might have missed out on.

SorceressJ -> RE: PetsRus (8/20/2010 2:43:59 PM)

I prefer mutt-type dogs and mixed breed cats for two very good reasons, IMO: 1) they tend to be more intelligent and resilient to illness, statistically speaking, and 2) it generally means I have saved a life from either the streets or almost certain death at the animal shelter. I love them all, but I will -not- pay stupid amounts of money for some fancy inbred creature from a breeder or (Gods forbid) a puppy/kitty mill when there are so many darling animals to love already, and not enough of us. Know what I mean?

Absolutely, Sorc. We're in 100% agreement on that.

Lol..Well it only works for me if we're both on all fours and I'm in charge.

Just so you know..I only flirt because I know it's not going anywhere..These are tongue in cheek advances.[:D]

This thread makes me sad. 2 years ago, August 9, my one and only pet died unexpectedly and I have not gotten over it to get another one yet.

This is Belle. Sniff, sniff.

forget it, the photo is not appearing.

KariCloud -> RE: PetsRus (8/20/2010 5:02:00 PM)

I am currently at one young bunny, two young hamsters, a plecostomus, a small rainbow shark (not a real shark, but a catfish), and well over a dozen golden er.. danios? Don't quite remember what the little golden fishes are. Something less than an inch long and pretty, unfortunately has live births and reproduces fast. I started with only five!

The bunbun is the cutest. :) He's a dwarf lop, just under 2lbs and at full growth. He's shedding his winter coat all over my room and his outdoor play pen, but I still love him lots. :) He is named Ceres, after the nearly-planetoid asteroid thingy.

I adore animals, of all sorts. I'd have more if I could! But I adore plants too, and there's only so much time in my day for the care of dependents.. :( I have enough room here for a small pony, but my housemate is opposed to any pony or horse bigger than my hamsters. So I am in search for teeny tiny ponies. :D

WinsomeDefiance -> RE: PetsRus (8/20/2010 6:18:14 PM)

Here's my Axel. He's my OCD puppy who likes to 'bury' dried up pizza crusts in my laundry and worse, my bedspread. He likes to shred paper, and shed all over the place when he's not being all sweet and affectionate. He also likes to hold the end of the leash and walk himself.
