Hmmm.. there go those assumptions again. Im 45, experimented with handcuffs at age 16, lost my virginity at 13. I dated twins all through highschool... at the same time. Had my first threesome with two guys at age 17. (sadly not with the twins) and my first threesome with another female at age 20.

Please, do tell me how that is being a generation of sexually repressed individuals?

And are you going to look me in the eye (well, obvs not quite possible but you know what I mean ) and tell me that your experience is typical of your generation?

Yes. My generation is the pre-aids generation... think about it.

Man, the good old days....decide on Friday morning you wanted to get fucked that night, go to a bar and find a man, fuck like crazy and never even know his name........

I know this will get me yelled at, but I think the reason the youth of today is so mad and defensive is because their music sucks, drugs now kill instead of making happies pooch out, and ya can't just go out and sow ya wild oats.  No wonder theyre so damn angry!

I will see if the subliminal sarcasm font comes across here........

Well, i was 18 when i met M, he was 19. We were D/s from the start (without really knowing much about bdsm - this was back in the 80's and there wasn't much out there back then - we figured this all out ourselves, sans books and sans internet).

Yes, by 20 i was his slave and damn straight by 21 he was my Master (this took some figuring out between 18/19 and 20/21).

We are now almost 45 (me) and 46 (him) sure stuff has changed here and we learned a lot over the last 27 years together.  We just have a whole lot more life experience under our belts now, we know not to sweat a lot of the small stuff - and that even a lot of the bigger stuff doesn't equate the end of the world but those lessons have little to do with being M/s other than that i can call him a wise ole fart now. We learned somewhere along the line (actually i can tell you exactly when we learned this but i am trying to keep this from becoming a novel) that we had to keep US as the number one priority and nothing can ever be bigger than us. We can't give life circumstances control over what makes us happy. (it's a long story). But that also is a relationship thing, not necessarily an M/s thing (even though we are never "not" M/s).

I know people MY age who are just starting to figure this out. Knowing yourself has nothing to do with age, it has to do with well...knowing yourself

I have a daughter who is nearing her 25th birthday. She's got her career and literal dream job off and running she's looking to buy her first home and she's got a really good sense of who she is (uhhh oh heck yeah i am proud of her!) what she wants and what she wants to do with her life. Yay, i raised self aware kids who happened to turn into adults.

Some young adults are self aware and some young adults are not. But then some old adults are self aware and some older adults are not.

BTW re: aids i was in my very early 20s when we heard about it. And most people of my time who realized they DIDN'T have it breathed a sigh of relief and said whew dodged the heck out of that bullet. I had not heard of aids (it wasn't "discovered" yet) when i met M. Nope, not old dammit 40s are the new 20s LOL.

One of the younger girls... 24... pulled me aside last night and asked me... Does it make me look bad if i slept with a guy one night and a different guy the next night?

I asked her two important questions, important to my mind....

Did you use protection? She said yes

Did you enjoy it? She laughed and said.. hell yes!

Welcome to sluthood sister!

These arent questions i asked when her age. I had a submissive boy toy at that age and enjoyed him immensely.

Now, i cant speak on this, so im asking... does the younger generation brag about sexual conquests? I know i didnt... it was my experience... something i treasured... but i didnt brag, i kept my sex life quiet from everything else.

They weren't questions i asked either. Our main thing when i was a kid was pregnancy not aids. It's a different world in that regard and i get that.

I think that is just as much as the self aware thing - an individual trait eg: some do, some don't.

i know my own kids aren't about that at all. Heck my youngest is in a 4 year solid relationship (yes, her HS sweetheart) and my oldest one is picky about when she even tells me she's got a BF. It's gotta get past a particular hurdle before she does tell anyone. The last (who she is still dating) was 4 mos before she decided to admit she was in a relationship LOL.

I was never a kiss and tell sort - neither are my own grown kids. Some folks are and i do admit i see that as lack of maturity - LOL sue me. I think there is a huge difference between being that open with someone you are close to and being that open with some complete stranger.

(ps - i hope i did the formatting to this right LOL)

tazzy - first, hell yes. To everything. Don't even want to contextualize my ringing assent, so I won't.

Second, every generation assumes the previous one was more prudish than it actually was.

It tends to go in cycles, though. What I call the pirates, the war babies, and the forgotten generations. Hippies, Flappers/roaring 20s, and pirates = pirates. Gen X, The 'Greatest' generation (Trying to remember a different name for WW1-2 generation and can't atm) and civil war folks = war babies. And Baby boomers/some other generations that I can't remember are the 'forgotten' generations.

War babies are violent prudes. Forgotten generations are more practical, but tend to think they invented sex. And pirates are frickin' sex pirates. Each generation begets the next.

tazzy, if I'm not mistaken you come from a generation of pirates, and I come from a generation of violent prudes. I know I had a hard time getting laid as a kid, I sure as hell wasn't 13.

Just toss me with the rest of the trash, right? A youngsomething that is confused, meek and curious. Well, not too meek but supposedly part of the welcome mat service.

Experience and Age fluctuates, maturity scatters across the board...

What do I want? I want to understand why I constantly give and serve my self to people. I do not have to try or force my self. It is something that comes from my inner nature and requires no props or tools.

Those that I was in service to will never forget me, both in the vanilla and/or kink aspects of the relationship.

how could you not love this cute face?

What about all the "older" groups that don't allow younger to participate. We are not generation me we are generation do our own thing. You don't want to include us in your little groups we make our own.

Does this really happen these days? Do bdsm groups with older members really excude younger people? And how do they do so? Explicit rule, unspoken rule backed up with harassment, or...what? And if harassment, what form does it take?

It wasn't happening when I was "out and about" the bdsm scene, but that was a long time ago and I've lost touch with what's happened since then.

I've heard about TNG groups from occasional references made at this site. I always assumed they were formed because it's natural and more comfortable and just more fun for people to be around others of their own approximate age, not because they were ostracized from groups that contained people of a different age.

Yes this really does happen. IMHO for my area: There is no harassment. Simply the rules are very clearly laid out and they check IDs. For the grand majority of local groups and events, you have to be 21+ to attend. Oddly, none of these are events that have drinking. The only event I'm aware of that allows drinking is 18+. There are a few smaller groups that allow for 18+ but they, overall, have to work to get play space.

I, personally, do not begrudge groups for making the age 21. The reasoning around here is fairly simple: They'd like to include the younger crowd but don't want to risk a teen coming, getting bruised up and then Mom and Dad asking a lot of questions and raising trouble. Despite that they would be legally an adult, it could still create a lot of trouble and could get the groups shut down.

Yes.
I've been interested in SM and power exchange my entire life.  I remember masturbating as early as age 5, and my fantasies have *always* been about being controlled.
So, if I wanting it when I was 5, and I'm 28 now, that's 23 years of time to think about this.  And the time I spent in vanilla relationships only confirmed it for me.

You can't determine maturity, intelligence, thought by means of age. Age won't tell you much of anything and you'd only be making an ass of yourself in assuming so. Because you were an immature 20 year old and had no clue as to what a lifestyle like this was, does not mean that the rest of the 20 year olds are the same. You can't live by simply by your perception. Take into consideration other things before you start making ignorant assumptions. To put it as simply, and to what it comes down to--you just don't know. A person can only know themselves. That is all. But when you try to be a little bit more open, you won't sound as stupid.

Honestly I've seen plenty of immature 50 year olds. People that haven't got the first clue how to be dominant/submissive. Really juvenile, dirty, and immature. So don't tell me age has anything to do with anything.

I know I am more mature then a lot of people, and I still accept the fact I will learn something new every single day. That's life lessons, and age doesn't necessarily give them to you, life does. How open you are to it, and how you accept it. I know, and admit, I don't know it all about life, death and even paying taxes. But I do know that what stage of my life I'm in now, I'm secure and I'm happy. I pay my own bills, make my own money in this hardass economy, and have had to live on my own since I was 18 years old. I'm in my late twenties, but am also open to new things and thoughts. Some older people are shut, their minds are slammed with only what they want to believe, and wont open up, because the persons age is younger. The wisdom of the streets made me wiser, made me aware. The school of hard knocks taught me that some people as I believe Rian stated, can be very mature at a young age, and very immature at an older age. I've had men in their 40s and 50s approaching me who cant complete a sentence, or put together one complete thought process, I've also had younger men do the same. Age is a number, only, If your body and your mentality is not legal age, then no you don't belong on this site at 18, 20,30,40,50, 60 or any age.

If you just go back, (as I did) and read the responses, you can easily decipher who's mature and who isn't - try reading the responses and see who comes up as mature.

I think if the person is old enough to go and fight for our country, using the "big guns and ammunition, in foreign countries for our freedom - even so we can bitch here, then they should be okay on collarme, and maybe instead of insulting them we should make it an acceptable place for the lifestyle were all here about, and guide them to safely practice the lifestyle, instead of condemning a specific age group.

You can rip this apart if you like, I wouldn't waste time fighting about it, but I had to say what I feel, because I can - It's a free country, thanks to those "youngins"

Some of those fighting for our freedom are young... some are not... some are nearing retirement age and still fighting for your, and my, freedom. respect that.

i think there must be a lot of young people, like myself, that are here to find out more about this and do decide if it really is for them, and if you are upfront and honest about that theres no problem
i wouldn't like to think that some of the older, more experienced members of the site somehow think we're less entitled to be here just because of age
