Have you really been alive long enough to know this is what you want.

Are you really that ignorant to think that because we are young we can't know who we are or what we want?

What's the point of this question?

Does it bother you that there are young people out there who may have their act together better than their elders?

It's way to early to play Sigmund Freud with this question.

What's your point?

Yes. But I've also been alive long enough to know that I have nothing to prove to strangers on the internet.

Of course they haven't...!

What they are is "Generation ME".

Selfish, self-entitled ego-paths full of their own personal rights while not giving a rat's clacker for anyone else not in their immediate social group. Between the "me first" attitude and technological advances, it's not surprising they've infiltrated all the adult world offers.

But I dunno about the "rise" of them here. Frankly, I miss the 19yo "Masters" coming in seeking a few pointers.... <shrugs>

Focus.

Odd.. I know a load of so-called adults over the age of 30 that fit this description better than most of the 20-somethings I know... Most of the younger folk I know are more interested in world-view..

OP, they offend you by simply being on this site?  You know, before you deem yourself a Master, you really ought to learn that the world sometimes does things you don't like.

Or is it that they are not interested in someone your age?

You know, I'm pretty tough on the young crowd at times.  In My opinion, no, if you're eighteen and brand new to all of this, you're not a Master just because you've decided to call yourself one.  No, you're not a slave if you just got out of high school and you've never been collared to anyone.  I'll admit that sometimes, I sit on My side of the screen and shake My head at some of the silly things that people come up with around this place.

At the same time, you can't ignore the wonderful possibilities that exist.  They might not know what they want, but then again, they just might.  They don't have to not know that this might be who they are.  They don't have to try to ignore that thing inside of them that draws them here in the first place.  They have an opportunity that we "old folks" may not have had.

I firmly believe that we are going to come to a time where those of us who get termed "later in life" kinky people isn't going to apply nearly as often.  There aren't going to be people who, out of lack of information, had to try to be something that they are not.  There won't be nearly as many people who struggle with trying to be "normal" rather than kinky because they don't know that all of the options are available.  That has the potential to be a pretty wonderful thing.

Not a regular forum go-er but I saw this in the side bar and had to take a peek.

Focus50, you assume that we're all like that. That'd be like me assuming anyone over the age of 35 is a pedophile and would be waiting for RL meetings in an Astrovan. I still pick up pointers, I still ask or research where I need help or don't understand. I strongly agree with LadyPacts latter point that my early discovery of the lifestyle prevented a lot of terrible relationships because vanilla is just not for me.

As far as 'technological advances' ....I'm really not sure what that has to do with anything. Technology has progressed and enriched any lives. Sure some may be pointless or extraneous but as a whole why shun something that is a continual progression to make the lives of every individual easier?

Instead of scooping all us 'young folk' and making us all seem like a TV stereotype, try talking to some of them. They can be good people, trust me I checked ;]

Why not?  I was just into my teens when I knew this was what I wanted.  Have some oatmeal and chill, Wilford.

I have to say that's not my impression of "the youth of today" at all ... while they may be slightly more cosseted than previous generations, which is hardly their fault when one considers the “Health & Safety First/Risk Averse At All Costs” world we've built for them, they strike me as, on average, being more tolerant, more open to new ideas (settle down at the back!), more creative and generally more thoughtful than I was at their age.

Of course there are some awful examples of humanity among them, but then there always have been, in every generation. It’s also worth remembering that, no matter how far you go back in history, there’s always been a tendency for a) the older generation to criticise the youth of the day (from some of the Greek & Roman scholars to Pepys to Dr Johnson [1] to "teenagers" of the 50s and 60s, etc etc) as being violent, talentless, feckless wastrels and b) for the youth to think their elders a bunch of pompous, incompetent, closed-minded fuddy-duddies. “T’was ever thus” ...

Personally, I'm looking forward to growing old disgracefully, and “interfacing” with the brighter youth as much as possible. I’m firmly of the opinion it keeps one young ... in outlook at least.

[1] “So different are the colours of life, as we look forward to the future, or backward to the past; and so different the opinions and sentiments which this contrariety of appearance naturally produces, that the conversation of the old and young ends generally with contempt or pity on either side.” ... I recalled the quote, but had to google for its precise wording. Shame on me. I blame an old(er) man’s memory

Greetings

Age have nothing to do with sexual orientation. I knew that I was a sub long before I knew what BDSM was, from the first time that I started to think about sex it was in the form of a submissive act, and before then, when I was just a little girl I would play slave to my dolls, serving them "tea" and tending to their imagined needs. Being submissive is a part of me.

I am 28 now but the first time I did BDSM play was when I was 16, I was as sure this is what I want then as I am now. Lack of experience do not mean that one do not know what one want.

I wish you well
