there are many attributes that can go into the making of a dominant

being nice, caring or a saint isn't part of it

That may be your MO when it comes to being dominant, but those qualities are not and should not be mutually exclusive.

i didn't say mutually exclusive

but they are not necessary to be a dominant

maybe a dominant for you

meaning they are not necessary to the core of being a dominant

Yes, for me, one has to be a caring and nice person, although not a saint.

I would venture that many other women feel this way and the myth of the iconic bad ass Dom with no feelings is something that fantasies are made of; most of us need a Dom who fulfills us in all areas of our lives, not just the fantasy arena.

And I also know that some women would love nothing more than to be with a mean, cruel and not very nice type of Dom who treats them like crap all of the time.

Different flavors for everyone.

Funny, they seem to like me just fine, and I'm way too new to be part of any clique.

Interesting...whenever someone gets a reply they dislike they attribute it to some sort of mythical clique.

Some people just never got over high school I guess.

You're on the wrong thread for that.  Here's the official bitch about the clique thread.  Here You Go - Bitch about the clique   It was created for those folks who want to use the clique as an excuse for everything.

Chairs, leather, chains, wips etc are all just tools of a Masters trade.
I would like to underline an issue here a true natural born Master should feel as Powerful standing naked as he/she does geared up.

Being a Master takes the kind of person that can read people understand thyre needs, even when sentencing them to the deepest forms of degredation, should feel love warmth and pity at the little slave who so desperately NEEDS to be fulfilled.

The need for total control-with the balence of ego not to become a total dick and break the slave in anyway other than needed.

Not to rabbit on, though I have, but does a true Master need to dress the part n all that to feel like a Master because if so theres something wrong, fine dress up for fun but for those who find they kneed to do this to be powerful, Id question this.

A Master is born , not made from life experiences. Natural ability to read, control ,manipulate, deceive, and understand others, without a slave I would find these aspects of me popping out in the wrong places.

How charming! Did you read that in the Dominant's Handbook?

This is only an opinion, and I'm not sure at all.
I think a Dom is a Dom when he relates in that way to somebody. I think it has to do with both of them, focusing mainly in the way they interact and feel around each other. Since there are more and less dominant people in the world, that may be it.
Blind guess, really.

That's because we do.

I've honestly seen little, if any, cliques here on CM. There are those of us that tend to gravitate towards either other because of common interests and/or ability to actually meet in person. That seems about it.
