Is it a crime to pour water over somebody if they happen to be on your property?

Not if you have given them previous warning not to return, and not if their point of entry/waiting area, is on private property.

There's also the factor that, even if such a case were to be brought, as soon as you'd made it clear you'd politely requested to be left in peace previously, several times, then I doubt any magistrate would convict on an assault charge.

Usually here it is jumpin jehovas witness women who do the lords work door to door, and I like discussing the scriptures regarding whether or not blowjobs are heavenly with them.

I can top that one Rapier. Jeholy Witnesses (that's what My neighbor who had a thick Cuban accent called em and it stuck) kept showing up every sunday morning.

After several polite (believe it or not) refusals and asking them to not return, I had enough. I looked out the peephole. Measured and grabbed the right amount of leash on a 95# German shepherd (that's alsatian for you Brits) and opened the door suddenly. As Thor lunged at their throats, I stood there in tighty whities an snarled "What the FUCK do you want?... I said dont FUCKING come BACK" yanked the dog back in and slammed the door.

They never returned.

A mate of mine once threw a cat at a JW. Doesn't sound like much, but it was the sort of cat that doesn't like being "on" people, and thus proceeded to climb said JW like a curtain, latch onto the top of his head/hair, and then went for the claw-filled double dismount with inward pike (4.2 degree of difficulty).

The noises the bloke made were apparently hysterically funny, along the lines of "AAARRRGHHH NO GET IT OFF OH CHRIST JESUS NO STOP IT AAARRRGHHH!!"

Now on the “good sky-pilot” front I was once woken on another Sunday morning while staying at a then girlfriend’s house. I opened the door to find a HUGE black west Indian lady, in all her church finery. She threw wide her arms, as if to hug me, beamed a smile as wide as her arse at me, and in a very loud voice exclaimed:

“DE LARD JESUS LOVES YOU!!!”

She seemed so genuinely happy that my usual “sky pilots who wake me on a Sunday” line of “fuck off and die” just felt wrong, so I politely thanked her for the information, shook her hand, and wished her well.

Oh, so me having snarled over the intercom "I'm not going to sign it, why do you keep coming back? I'm not going to sign it, go away and leave me alone!" could be seen as (somewhat) politely requesting to be left in peace and as soon as they come through the front gate and are in the garden, they are fair game? I think I might buy a garden hose in B&Q tomorrow...

Sounds good, but FFS make sure you video it and bung it on YouTube.

Fun like that is too good to miss.

ETA: I'd add a clear notice like "No petition callers admitted" or suchlike to your gate too, if I were you. Might help.

A couple of lads who spew nothing but mindless trash throughout the Political section, but that's it so far. Plus one cow whose name I've forgotten, she was obssessively replying to everything I posted, just to get a rise. Been a while since I added anyone.

A couple of others are now just borderline cases, and OP, you're one of them. I have nearly put YOU on my 'Hide' list twice.

Um, guys.....just for the record.....if'n ya'll keep quoting him, it doesn't help me to use the "hide" button!

Altho, I'm loving the responses!

What really scares me is that even when I don't see the quoted posts, I can pretty much figure out what was said....comes from knowing their posting style too well.  Maybe I should've hid them sooner!

Wouldn't that be a bit pretentious?

On the note of JW calling, haven't got a lot of JW here (I think I was offered the Watchtower once or twice and politely declined, said not interested in becoming religious and that was it), but for some odd reason what appears to be Mormons tend to come around a lot.

When I lived in Germany JW were a bit of a pest, you could ask to be left alone but they just wouldn't listen, though one day I was trying on a new leather corset I had just bought and how it would work with various leather dresses, skirts and trousers, they rang the door and I just gave in to an impulse and said "Sorry, not now, I'm a bit late for an orgy" (unfortunately it was a lie) they reacted like most of the Transylvanian villagers react when Christopher Lee shows up and legged it ASAP! Usually I got them once a week at least but after that incident (about a year later I moved to the UK, so by now they might have recovered and pester the person living there now) I never saw them again.

You know i am a person on the forms that gives as good as i get, i don't hide people because i am capable of ignore people.  This is a message board, there are days i am all in and days that i could care less.  I guess i just don't let people effect me so much that i need to hide what they say instead of just ignoring them.

I do find the title of the thread interesting, especially the use of idiots.

To me, the world is full of narcissistic people and this message board is no different.  I see on this message board specifically a lot of people who think THEIR determination of people is what is the truth.  What i find funny is ITS A MESSAGE BOARD.  People are more concerned judging people on a personal level they will never know, instead of just seeing people for what they are -- anonymous nicknames on a message board.  You see it in posts that they make.  i see a lot of peope who think as long as they talk ABOUT people instead of TO people negatively that they are somehow positive people.  Seriously, this board flabbergasts me in the negativity so many so called self-proclaimed positive, nice, and kind people generate.  Seriously, if this thread is a reflection of what nice, kind positive people do or think, we are all screwed.

So i find it odd someone would want to know WHY people hide people and if you look at the reasons posted to me this thread seems more of a place to be negative about people and get as close as you can to publically speaking negative about people you hide.

I mean the basic reason is simple and not negative -- you simply don't wish to read their posts.  Is it really necessary to list publically what you think about these people you have chosen to hide?

Do you have a particular reason?  Or is it someone who just rubs you the wrong way?

I have 3 people on hide now -
one woman who spits nothing but bitter self-righteousness.
Thanks, but life has enough nastiness that I don't need to read yours.
one man who spits ugliness on everythread.
Thanks, but life has enough ugliness that I don't need to read yours.
one drama llama who takes no responsibility for her actions.
Thanks, but life has enough drama that I don't need read about yours.  Go find a chatroom, thank you very much.

How bout you all?

Of course, if *I'm* on hide, you won't see what I wrote!

Yes, I have several people on hide because I don't want to read their posts.  It's like putting duct tape on someone's mouth...I don't have a problem with that.

It wouldn't surprise me if several people had my posts blocked from their view...because my posts can get very long sometimes.  I'm okay with that.

This is something that I've had people mention to Me because I tend to quote the person that I'm responding to and it was an individual that someone has on hide.  I can't say I know the best solution for that one, though I have been known to apologize to the hide-er in that case.

I currently have six people on ignore. They're on ignore because they seem to be incapable of holding a conversation without resorting to name-calling. In the case of two of them, name-calling is all they do.

I started off by trying to play the insult game right back at them, but it gets pretty boring very quickly. I even tried a system of temporary ignores - but that doesn't work, because the people concerned are exactly the same as they were before, once the ignore is lifted.

Annoyingly, putting someone on ignore doesn't mean I don't have to see their shit. If I reply to a comment in a thread including one of the ignored, their post comes up as clear as day in the post-review part of the reply box.

In a different forum I visited some time ago one of the IT geniuses had created a Greasemonkey script which could not only ignore certain members, but it could also completely remove their post as if it didn't exist at all. That was pretty cool.

Regarding the 'not allowing people to affect one enough to merit an ignore' argument, I think it would be nice to be disengaged enough from a forum to be able to just shrug one's shoulders and walk away. But I tend to get involved - it's who I am, so I guess I have to put up with it.

The big disadvantage with putting people on ignore is that it gives them the green light to continue to be a problem. Not my problem any more, for sure, but someone else will end up getting it.

S'ok, LP, it was meant lightly and (sort of) in jest!  It keeps things straight to quote......especially when it doesn't take much to confuse me!

If someone is especially abusive I will tend to only quote the first couple of words of their reply in mine, for that reason.

Beyond that I doubt there's much one can do - after all, it's an un-moderated forum, which is one of the things I like about it.

I think I have one person on ignore off of the forums but it was meant as a joke sorta and I need to check and see if it's still there..Just remembered that.

I ignored gungadin..She'd keep coming in a poking me..so I'm guessing she either was joking around or she considered me to be a troll lol..Either way my thought was to say aha..I'll teach ya to stop poking me :>
Come to think of it I think I did take her off.

Actually, it does take a lot for me to add someone to my hidden list.  Usually, like most of us here, it's only after seeing how abusive someone can be, or how they come here to stir up trouble with no particular agenda other than to spread their vitriol.  Believe it or not, I don't hide folks who don't agree with me, or aren't afraid to stand up and stick to their guns when they know they are right.  I may not actively participate, but it makes for some good reading!

Like I said, I can usually guess what was said simply based on the replies from the other posters, which means that I have read their crap for a long enough time to be able to guess pretty accurately.....UGH!
