A parents worst nightmare, should the man be tried as a murderer, or given a hero's welcome?
Very sad, all the way around.

He could have killed her for all kinds of reasons, it's convenient to say he thought she had terrorist links. Even if it turned out to be true murder is not legal regardless of who you are murdering.

Maybe she just gave him a bit of back-chat one day, so he kicked her uppity ass to death and then realised he needed an excuse to cover his crime?

If you thought a family member was a terrorist you wouldn't think it your first or only option.

1. You want to get to the people that turned her and so reporting her to authorities for investigation would be the best way to get that done
2. You always want to think they'll change back to who they were.

Neither. Yet. If she was on her way out the door to commit mass murder, he did the right thing. To attempt any other method of stopping her would have risked a very loud noise. But otherwise, he probably did it to save face instead of reporting her to the police and allowing them to handle it. And either case assumes the Al-Qaida part of the story is true. Let's wait for more details before we make a call on this one.

If she was with al qeada then who cares?
You have to respect "multi-culturalism", right? Even when you disagree with it. That's just the way they do things in Iraq.

Iraq is very multicultural, it has loads of different types of Muslims and a few Christians hiding in the basement.

What are you on about 'Multiculturalism'?

What a tragedy all the way around. A young woman convinced killing is a good idea, a father convinced the best solution to a bad idea is to kill his flesh and blood. Even if that's the case, how can he prove it. How can his child's mother live with him afterward? What a damn waste.

This is how they do things in their country, who is the West to interfere?
Honor killings are a long standing cultural practice.
Don't you think "The West" has interfered enough in Iraq?

It's not how they do things, to take one example and proclaim "That is how they do things." is ignorant.

Do people judge America by it's serial killers?

SL4, it's really none of our business is it?
Sounds like a local law enforcement issue to me.

It's my business when people are needlessly killing others.

The pre war Iraq had a judicial system, the post war Iraq should have one too.

Nope, because most people aren't ignorant enough to point at Charles Manson, Ted Bundy, Richard Ramirez, etc. and say "That's how they do things"

Well then it sounds like you need to have the courage of your own convictions and pick up a rifle and go to Iraq.
Maybe you could start up the Abraham Lincoln brigade again!

There is more than one way to change the world, Google and Ghandi didn't even have a stick. 'The pen is mightier than the sword' there is a reason these sayings have been around a long time. After the pointless violence reasonable people have to come to envisage a way forward to avoid more pointless violence.

Most modern wars don't really do much, thousands die and then everyone agrees it shouldn't happen again.

If I'm being honest most modern wars are simply a training exercise for western forces.

Odd. That was my first thought too.

A hero's welcome? Girl, did you just wander out of the loony bin through a blind spot on the security monitors?

So what do you propose to do about it, play the Caped Avenger?
We had three killings here in the Myrtle Beach, SC area over the last month or so. What would you do about it, fly over and tell the local cops and D.A. to step aside?
And there's that word again, "world." Each country is responsable for itself and it's people.
As for Ghandi he never went to Detroit did he?
There's a good bumper sticker in the U.S.; "Think locally act locally."
You seem to be suffering from, "The Great White Bwana" syndrome.

I'm tending to agree Kirata.  Females can have lower worth then males, depending on the religious beliefs of this particular person, so it may have been a bit too easy for him to remove her.   If that was his son, I'm thinking things might have taken a different path.   The details to follow may shine a different light altogether.
