You are right.
As I said, he just got to me this time.

Perfectly understandable.

Time for me to take a deep breath, and remember that he is just a loon on the 'net.

Precisely so. Sadly, what happens is we tend to project our sympathy and empathy for others (the victims), and that means we care by association far more than we normally would about the deliberately inflammatory comments made by trolls. It's why, whenever an event like this occurs, you can bet your last cent that trolls will emerge from all over to try to prod people into reacting.

Not that there's anything wrong with reacting, it's just it can feed them as much as it (possibly) upsets you.

But you've seen things as they are, and are back to being calm, rational and humane, which puts you 3 steps ahead of any troll.

Good grief, you leftists. This guy was responsible for his actions... nobody else.

I dont know.  I wouldn't be so quick to say "nobody else".

Believe it or not, there are people in this world that cannot begin a sentence that doesn't slam someone else's politics.  Some people in this world have the mental capacity to deal with all that noise, and others don't. They end up being provoked, and are quickly written off by the provoker as a nutcase.

Im not against freedom of speech. I am FOR "responsibility of speech".  That SarahPAC ad that used the crosshairs graphics is an example of irresponsible free speech.

I'm waiting to hear about this guy's upbringing and home life with dad to see what "programming" (pun intended) he received there.

jlf1961 -> RE: Arizona Democrat Congresswoman and 11 others shot (1/8/2011 3:45:36 PM)

Considering that some of this guy's rants make about as much sense as Real and Hunk, you would think they would be extolling the actions of this lunatic.

Wait, Hunk did say that it was okay to target members of the power structure, didn't he.

As for MK Ultra, I am quite sure that some studies continued after the official end of the project.

However, I must point out that recently released documents concerning similar studies by the KGB in the same area showed inconsistent and unreliable results. The main thing they proved was that you cannot program someone to do something that is against their nature. Meaning you cannot take a person who has some moral or ethical compulsion against killing and turn them into an assassin.

What results from the attempt is some sort of mental breakdown that leaves the subject unable to function.

pahunkboy -> RE: Arizona Democrat Congresswoman and 11 others shot (1/8/2011 4:04:49 PM)

Hey 61, who or what IS the power structure?

Hey Hunk, considering you said it, as well as some things that seem to imply you dont think women should hold political office, perhaps you should define it.

Personally I wish someone would convince you to get back on meds and stop this mindless, troll like bullshit.

Failing that I wish the mods would take some action against YOUR attacks on forum users.

housesub4you -> RE: Arizona Democrat Congresswoman and 11 others shot (1/8/2011 4:44:29 PM)

Well at least no one in politics had something up with gun cross hairs on her district, and then took them down today

Last year, Sarah Palin's PAC posted a map with gun cross-hairs over the districts of several Democrats who voted for health care reform, including Giffords. Sarah PAC appears to have taken the page down today, but a screenshot is here:

I mean hey, it not like there is nothing else to use to mark a spot other then gun crosshairs

Thankfully there is no one who ever called for violence against our elected officials

Congresswoman Giffords was one of the Democratic legislators that Sarah Palin targeted with a gunsight on her webpage.

So much for that hope, Lockit. Too bad it wasn't Mark Twain holding that gun.

Well, what do you expect? It's the Politics forum, and it was a political assassination. Why would it not become a political issue? How could it not?

The conservatives in this country have chosen wacko, nutbag extremist representatives like Sharon Angle and Sara  Palin to speak for them, and when Angle calls for citizens to take up arms against liberal politicians, and Palin uses gunsight graphics to designate the liberal political leaders she wants to "target," it's relevant. Especially if one of the people who she targets with one of those gunsights gets shot in the head by a conservative.

If it makes conservatives pissy and uncomfortable to have to own that, that's just tough shit. If it bothers them that much, maybe republicans ought to - hey, here's a crazy idea - select political leaders who are actually sane and civilized. But until they do, they're just going to have to live with the shame and the embarrassment of picking ignorant, foamy-mouthed, trailer trash barbarians to represent them. You don't get to pick lunatics like that to represent you, and then call "no fair" when someone talks about what fucking psychos they are.

If someone wants to start a discussion where nobody discusses the political aspects of this, and only sympathetic, non-partisan "kumbayas" are allowed, nobody's stopping them. But perhaps "Politics" would not be the best forum for that.

And what the heck does Mark Twain have to do with anything?

The map of Sarah Palin is a joke, just like her.Is Sarah Palin happy now!?!?Anyone who supports her is just as stupid.I dont mean to bring politics into this but that map is a disgrace.Just like Pahunkboy.I agree,a killing in Afganistan,Iraq or Mexico is just as bad a murder in America or Europe. However, you comment on Women is pathetic too. You,Sarah Palin and Dick Cheney can all go have fun together!!

Hey Panda, I have no problem with it becoming a political discussion. I do however have a problem with people who cannot have enough compassion to wait until some of the bodies of those killed were actually cold and people had time to digest some of the devastation.

But then, asking some of you people to fucking have a heart and stop trying to cure the evils in America with all this talk, banter and upheaval, is like asking a straw doll to have a heart.

Don't mind me... as if you did... on with conspiracy theories and banter...

maybemaybenot -> RE: Arizona Democrat Congresswoman and 11 others shot (1/8/2011 6:27:23 PM)

12+ human fucking beings shot. At least one child and others killed.

And as usual a good number of P&R posters haven't as much as an ounce of human compassion. It's pretty fucking sad when one's political agenda outweighs their ability to have empathy for their fellow man.

Ohhh the indignity of waterboarding... the crimes against humanity in AbuGhraib..... yet a mass killing on our own soil is mocked and justified by the usual suspects. You gotta love the hypocracy of some people who claim to be human rights advocates. I dunno, I try and apply the same standards to ALL human tragedies.

Or just maybe if the public gets outraged enough and speaks up right after shit like this happens, the right-wing agitators will cool their rhetoric and the unhinged will be less likely to believe they received a message from Palin or Beck to go murder a Dem Congresswoman or some innocents in a church in Knoxville.

Lockit -> RE: Arizona Democrat Congresswoman and 11 others shot (1/8/2011 6:31:29 PM)

I hope that last paragraph wasn't meant for me. If it was, you would be wrong, but this isn't the topic.. these other atrocities. My talking about stoning women and not abusing the disabled and all that... has no place here on this thread.

Mark Mardell, BBC US Correspondent & North America Editor: "It is an indication of the febrile, volatile nature of politics in America that, immediately the news broke, the internet was alive with anger, a dispute between the left and the right ... while we don't know if the motive behind the shooting was political, it is very clear that it was immediately politicised, at least on the internet. Twitter was immediately full of accusations that the right had created a climate of hatred where this could happen. The right responded in fury. Some pointed out this wasn't based on evidence. One claimed an illegal immigrant was responsible, another that it was done by the left to harm the right."

It's almost as if he's reading CM.
