Status: offline 		Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords was shot in the head and had been pronounced dead, however other reports say she is in critical condition, this is still sketchy stuff...so Im waiting for the fog to clear .....

(CNN) -- At least 12 people were shot at a Tucson grocery store on Saturday, and U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords was among them, a Democratic party source told CNN. Giffords, 40, was holding a constituent meeting at the grocery store when the shooting occurred, according to a schedule posted on her website. CNN could not confirm conditions for Giffords or any of the others wounded, but the Tuscon Citizen newspaper was reporting that Giffords was shot in the head.

She has served as chairwoman of the House Space and Aeronautics Subcommittee and also holds seats on the House Science and Technology and Armed Services committees.



Oh wait this is about a maniac shooting, sorry for getting off topic.

Status: offline 		Yup, I know that district very well as I used to live there. I know the Safeway because I used to shop there. No matter what your politics, this is not the way for political change. And, taking a life is simply wrong. Reports from KVOA and KOLD in Tucson are she is still in surgery. So reports she is dead isn't quite right, as far as I can figure out. And yes, I did support her opponent in the election. But so what? Just horrible.

Indeed so. Just demonstrates that, if you're in the public eye, no matter how peripherally, you're a potential target to some loon.

We had a similar thing at a English MP's "surgery" last year. IIRC the person concerned objected to his party's stance on the Iraq conflict, or at least that was her "rationale".

The one difference was, guns aren't widely available in the UK, so the nutcase had to stab the guy. He lived, no-one else was even injured. She got life:

Status: offline 		just sickening. i hope she pulls through. my sympathies to the families of those who were killed. az senator lopez is reporting that the information she has is that giffords was shot in the temple and the bullet exited her forehead but at last report giffords was out of surgery and responding to commands. so we'll see just what is the truth. some sources were reporting giffords dead, some are saying she's still in surgery. i wish the injured a swift recovery.
