Woke up today with swollen (under my) eyes.  Mostly on the left but wow, puffy like sacks.  Wtf.

As far as I know I have no allergies (that I know of). I do have quite a few spiders here but what are the chances of getting a bite on both eyes in one night?  This also isn't blackfly season which usually gives people the eye-puffs.

Eye goober (i know ewww) yes, check, but gone now since waking, no pain (ok, a lil more on the left likely from skin stretching).  In other words--I look like chit and that I spent the night crying but I didn't. The puffiness didn't subside after cool water this morn. Uhhg

I have a new kitten that sleeps nearby (on and off--you know kittens with their back n forth nonsense all night long).  But have had her for weeks now and no issues previously.

Haven't changed my diet or tried new foods, so I'm at a loss.

will try to think of anything new I have brought into the house though or touched lately, but this is still weird.

Any ideas??  Anyone suffered from this occasionally or even more often??

Hot compresses, not cold. If something is obstructing a gland or tear duct, you want the moist heat to open them up.

You have a touch of a cold by any chance? Tear ducts can get infected by that.

my guess is the kitten...allergies do not always appear immediately.

Since it is now HER bed, you might have to find another place to sleep.

chit. lol now ya tell me.  Been putting a cold cloth on my face n eye for half the night now (cuz all day I thought I was superwoman and did nothing about it till tonight--it will pass, I thought).  Cold just made it seem more 'there' and aggravated me to insanity.

No, I have no cold or sniffles etc.  No headache, my eyes aren't even red or itchy.  It is like the ducts below have been injected with an ounce each of whateverthe hell is making em puffy.

I did (days ago) though buy the new Vaseline cream with coconut butter that I use on my face.  I have recently had a manic baking phase--which included flour being poofed into my face a few times (yesterday) and of all things I did give the cats de-worming meds (powder in capsule form) that you have to open and sprinkle on their food (last night, before bed).  Considering usually I am fanatic about handwashing I was distracted since I was on the phone for hours and I actually 'might' have not washed my hands after the fact. Not sure though, Doh!

Not sure which one is the culprit but it has to be one of those stupid 3 things I did. This is quite uncomfortable.  I gotta say the worst torture is the slightest piece of dust in one's eyes grrrr.  I still don't know how (except for the possibility of the worm med chemicals) can cause so much havok. &$%#

I can't imagine having to rid of the cats or locking them out of my room etc.  Would break me heart.

Begeezus, thank you. What sweet relief. Still a lil swollen but wow, it has gone down some and not as painfully irritating.  I still think it must have been the flour (flax or the wheat germ) I tossed into the bread.  Was the messiest chore I did this week.

Oh thank goodness.  When you get up in the morning, they will either be much better, or it will look like you're having a setback and they're worse.  But keep up the hot, moist compresses (start your day in the shower, washcloth on your eyes, hot water hitting the outside of the cloth), and it should improve.

Maybe a trip to your Dr should be in order.

^^^ This ^^^^

I'm not trying to scare you, But < always a " but " >:

I have a rare kidney disease. The first symptom I had was puffy eyes. I thought nothing of the puffy eyes. Attributed it to tiredness, PMS, had a few too many drinks and lots of other excuses. After about 4-5 weeks my hips, pelvic region and both legs and feet swelled up like. I also had foamy urine, which I didn't think anything of. I finally went to the MD after the hips and legs swelled up and was diagnosed with kidney disease.

I think I'm probably the rarity. But I would firmly encourage you to take Tazzy's advice.
Better safe than sorry, and if it is anything serious, early detection, early treatment is important. Below is a link to all the conditions " puffy eyelids " is a symptom of. So as you will see, it's a crap shoot... could be anything . Good Luck.

Problem is... and this is a generalization, which most people dont like, but tough... is that many people with allergies tend to view most new symptoms they get as being an "allergy". And that may be the case here. Or, as you pointed out, it could be a new allergy, which needs to be diagnosed...... a worsening of an old allergy, which needs to be more closely monitored (anaphylaxis can build slowly or hit incredibly quickly)... or a disease process in the making, and early detection is paramount.

All we can do is guess. A Dr's visit is needed.

Or take a benedryl tonight and see if it does the trick. If it does, you know it's an allergy. If it doesn't, you've eliminated that and can give your doctor that much more information.

100% agree. I learned the hard way. I'm a nurse for crissake and I splained my symptoms away until I was quite ill. Now, I don't care if I look like an ass, I go to the MD with any symptom that doesn't go away in a day or two. I generally have always been pretty good about going to the MD, but when I got the puffy eyes... meh, so what ? puffy eyes? Seemed pretty benign.

When you have an underlying condition, you tend to justify new symptoms as associated to the condition. I have chronic bursitis of my left shoulder. I get steroid injections for flare ups. Just a few weeks ago, I had a horrific flare up. So I called my ortho and made an appointment to get my injection. Because my range of motion had changed, just slightly, he did an X ray and lo and behold... I have degeneration and a deformity of the head of my humerous from an old fracture. < not present on X ray a year ago > New problem, new treatment. No bursitis. Still may need injections, but I have to do PT first, then re eval, injections if indicated. If no relief from those two treatments I will need a partial shoulder replacement in the future.

I have the bursitis in my left shoulder too.....I so wish it was in my right one, because every now and then, I freak when it flares, thinking it is my heart.....then I have panic attacks, then I feel like a maroon.

It aint easy being nuts.

I would highly recommend to any young folks who pop a shoulder out of socket to go see a doctor, even if someone manages to pop it back in for you. Years later, you will get older, and it will cause ya problems, more than likely.

To the OP.....go to the doctor. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks again y'all.

Swelling has gone down considerably.  Just a lil puff now. left only.  I can seeeee, I can seee lol.

I guess I found out the hard way I am allergic to wheat germ because it is something new I started adding to everything for the fiber intake thang. I guess having the dust from it poofin' up into the eyes is one sure home allergy test in itself lol.

I am feeling well otherwise.  Blurred vision has gone away now that the swelling is almost gone.  I won't be baking again without goggles for sure because this was one hell of a an inconvenience (not to mention irritating).

I guess I shouldn't eat stupid wheat germ either? or is a topical allergy not the same as one digested? Aside from Penicillin I had no idea I had other allergies.  Eeesh, who the heck develops allergies in their old age like me? Cripes I hate doctors., but maybe I should have the entire test (on the arm I guess) and something could be the reason for my lethargy. Those tests are free, likely. I need some reason besides just being lazy lol.

My worry would be that you are allergic to wheat germ, and each subsequent introduction of the irritant is affecting your allergic resistance even more.

Think of it as a bee sting. The first one makes a small spot swell. The second, your whole arm. The third, you may stop breathing.

Allergies are not to be played with... get tested.

Is this your thoughts on what caused it or did you see an MD ?
