McCain's eligibilty depends on what the "Status of Forces Agreement" in place at the time designated as "U.S. soil". Perhaps the Senate committee which investigated McCain's eligibility in 2008 had access to same, perhaps not, but the bottom-line is they issued a resolution declaring him eligible based upon his having been born to U.S. citizen parents(plural). A non-binding resolution for sure, but a resolution nonetheless, the bottom-line being that neither house of Congress did the same for Obama.

Congress and/or SCOTUS should indeed weigh in and settle the matter once and for all, for the present and the future

Then its settled because the House did weigh in on that point.

I expect you to never bring the subject up again.

So sue him.

Then you can complain that the entire US government, starting with your local district court all the way up to the Supremes, are corrupt.

And if you don't like it, you book an overnight stay nearby your nearest US consulate, and renounce your citizenship.

Don't let the door bang you in the ass, Neo.

I assume by your response you thought it was either Andy Devine, or Trigger.

........... Seriously. Obama's own claim, that his father was a British subject/Kenyan citizen when he (Obama) was born, precludes him from being a "natural born Citizen". PERIOD.

His MOTHER was a US citizen. PERIOD.

Once again, the law of the land:

(g) a person born outside the geographical limits of the United States and its outlying possessions of parents one of whom is an alien, and the other a citizen of the United States who, prior to the birth of such person, was physically present in the United States or its outlying possessions for a period or periods totaling not less than five years, at least two of which were after attaining the age of fourteen years: Provided, That any periods of honorable service in the Armed Forces of the United States, or periods of employment with the United States Government or with an international organization as that term is defined in section 288 of title 22 by such citizen parent, or any periods during which such citizen parent is physically present abroad as the dependent unmarried son or daughter and a member of the household of a person
(A) honorably serving with the Armed Forces of the United States, or
(B) employed by the United States Government or an international organization as defined in section 288 of title 22, may be included in order to satisfy the physical-presence requirement of this paragraph. This proviso shall be applicable to persons born on or after December 24, 1952, to the same extent as if it had become effective in its present form on that date; and

Unless the Obama mama (neat term) either renounced her citizenship or lived in the US less than 5 years prior to his birth (at least 2 of those years after age 14), Obama was a citizen at BIRTH.
BORN a citizen.

Not cloned. NATURAL.

It's the law of the land. DEAL with it.

Hillwilliam,

Were you posting that in response to my post (#166)? We're on the same side, here.

I think you meant "Birth Certificate"

And that alone does not settle it for me. That alone, imo, proves citizenship.

NBC may require something more, and I believe it does.

Yeah, I think it requires DNA testing on the remnants of the umbilical cord.

Does Hawaii save those?

Actually, hlen, I was just putting it at the end of the thread and not particularly responding to anyone.

It apparently defaulted to a response to you.

Does anybody? That conjures up an image of a rather strange archive...

You're wasting keystrokes.

It's been posted so many times I can't count, including by me several times.

This is all just a witch hunt and nothing is going to stop it.

Wonder what Ken Starr is doing these days?

how many times are we going to have to go through this?

As long as it serves the GOP purpose of distracting people from useful activity.

There are a couple of approaches - fight every inch, or ignore them.   I think some day to day balance has to be struck, and expect that events will eventually pass them by.

On the one hand, the concentration of power in Wall Street can be self-perpetuating, even if it's also self-destructive.   As long as it's married to the votes of a powerful religious right, it's a tough nut to crack.   You can expect that Wall Street loves its boom & bust cycles, and so they will periodically fuck things up.   Likewise, religious loons yammering about the end of the world only goes so far before people get sick of it.   In the longer term, you'd think science would pass these folks by, but the whole point of applied science is to make nuclear weapons operable by total morons.

People like excitement, and excitement tends to be expensive.   I think the Teabaggers will fuck the Republicans in the next election cycle, and probably for as long as they are a serious factor.   Even though Americans are angry about the status and events, the people that get things done have to be responsible, and we're not talking Enron responsible, we're talking accomplish the mission and get the fuck out responsible.

Congress can't because it's constitutional.   SCOTUS doesn't do advisory opinions - not constitutional.

So unless you sue somebody, you're stuck with pontificating on CM.

Go ahead - sue!  I double dare ya!

jlf1961 -> RE: Birther News (3/8/2011 1:54:41 PM)

Hawaii AND President Obama have produced the requested Birth Certificate, proving he was BORN IN THE STATE OF HAWAII.

Now truckinslave, get over it and move on. SCOTUS has thrown out every birther case because there is no question.
