maybemaybenot -> RE: No need to sing.... (3/31/2011 6:04:37 PM)

I'm happy with the ones voted off tonight. I couldn't warm up to Niama, but I thought her reggae version last night was horrible. And thea.. well.. I just never saw her as a final anything.

James rocked it last night, still my fave. WHile I do like Casey and am glad he made it thru, I wasn't crazy about his performance. Maybe it's because I am just not a big Elton John fan.

Unlike you mike, I really really enjoyed Scotty's performance last night. That is one of a few EJ songs I like and I think he twisted it into a country song very well. I do think he's a one trick pony, but I thought last night was his best night. I 've been pretty positive on Paul MacDonald, but I think he fell short last night. Glad he made it thru tho. He needs to step it up tho.

Yeah Paul does need to do better than he did this week..but Niamba(sp) did not deserve to go home..I am still appaled that Stefano continues to go thru.He just doesn't do anything for me .Thea just had to go...she didn't have the power or the range to hang with this group.

Thanx, Mike ! Yea, I'm looking forward to tonights show. It's Rock n Roll HOF night. It will be interesting to see what Jacob and Scotty do. We already know Pia is going to sing Rolln on the River, at least that's what she said last week.

Reviews to follow later!

BTW, thanx for starting this thread. Altho there's not many of us here who are AI junkies, it's fun to see others impressions. ONe of my football MB has a huge AI following and some good insights and some pretty funny criticisms.

slvemike4u -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 7:29:04 AM)

By the by,since I elected to watch the Yankee game, which was never played.....rainout,I will be watching this afternoon.I did catch Holly do Janis.....all I can say is WOW.she nailed it.

slvemike4u -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 11:16:25 AM)

Just watched  the show...and seeing as my momma didn't raise no fools,I am out of the predicting the bottom 3 business. There is no way,no how to choose three"bottom"performances from last nights broadcast. Those folks brought the rock, the soul, the country....the Hall of Fame music...and they did it in grand fashion.
As I was watching, and getting wowed song after song....I figured everything was lining up easy.Stefano, who it seems I am predisposed to not like, was singing next to last....and my "who's going to leave "nominee would be a breeze.Well he came out and did one hell of a job on Percy Sledge.Fucked up my whole game plan
Micheal Jackson
Janis fucken Joplin
Tine Turner
George Harrison(James is going to be here till the end)
Elvis Presley(Scotty done him proud)...on and on it was just great.
A little criticism here.....Jacob made what I thought was a major mistake in his pre-performance clip.Showing confidence in yourself is one thing, but when you basically tell America that if you wind up in the bottom three...it won't be because of your singing...but rather some lack of character...or courage from the American Public.....well you better sing your ass off.
He did,he nailed it and hit it out of the park
But it's still a real bad idea to challenge voters to.....not like you.

slvemike4u -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 5:58:18 PM)

I am a little behind "real time"but Jacob just landed in the bottom three.Challenging the voters to place you there is so not a good idea...especially when that challenge hints at prejudice of one form or another.Telling America that(I paraphrase here) "if I wind up in the bottom three,it won't be because of how I sing the song...but because America is afraid to look in the mirror"...thatt was as close as my memory could take me to the actual quote.
Anyway you slice it...it was stupid.

maybemaybenot -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 6:06:25 PM)

WOW !!! I'm gobsmacked. I was not a huge Pia fan, BUT I expected her to make it to the top 2 or 3. She has an amazing voice, just not my style. I thought Stefano or Jacob would go tonight.

I thoroughly enjoyed each performance last night. They all did great. My faves were Paul, Pia and Haley. James is still my fave, but last night I think the others outshone him.

slvemike4u -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 6:27:45 PM)

For me James version of "while my guitar gently weeps" was nothing short of fantastic.Pia leaving was totally surprising...Paul not being in the bottom 3 was a shock(though I thought his Folsom Prison Blues was fantastic...I thought the others were just that much better)
Stefano or Paul...but not,in no way Pia....for shame America(this from someone who watches...but never votes...what a putz I am )

windchymes -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 8:56:40 PM)

Am I reading correctly here, did Pia get voted off?????

I worked late, got it on dvr, gonna go watchit right now....

windchymes -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/7/2011 9:50:49 PM)

Damn, just watched it.....wouldn't have seen it coming if I hadn't read it here.

slvemike4u -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/8/2011 4:12:00 PM)

Sorry if we blew the surprise.....but why not wait to come here till after you have watched....lol.

LafayetteLady -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/8/2011 4:49:56 PM)

~FAST REPLY~

I'm in the minority (probaly by myself) that predicted Pia wouldn't make it to even the top 5. While it was out of line for Jacob to make his staement, Pia always struck me as having the attitude that she had it in the bag. Can't say I'm sad to see her go. My favs are definately James and Casey.

slvemike4u -> RE: No need to sing.... (4/8/2011 6:22:16 PM)

Just seemed so unnecessary to tweak folks that way....perhaps ,if the voters got the same impression we seem to have gotten, upon hearing those comments it did indeed effect his vote total. Not a bright move at all.

lol, it's ok, it's just my after-work routine, check email, check CM, check DVR. I actually hate watching the "voted off" nights of all those shows anyway, and always super-fast forward to the end just to see who goes without the other 59 minutes of crap. So don't worry, you didn't spoil anything :)

As far as Pia, my surprise was that she got voted off already. I also didn't think she'd win, since it seems like every year one of the "obvious" favorites gets voted off. But I did think she'd get in the top 2 or 3, then lose in a "surprise" upset.

On that show, it's not how good you are, it's how you many fans you manage to accumulate AND get to call in. You have to get the popular vote.
