Ah, now we pull other countries into the mix. 70,000 women die each year from "illegal" abortions. A small proportion to the number of abortions performed each year, true. However, it could be larger if suddenly abortions were illegal world wide. Ireland .... Its one of those issues I dont agree with. But, currently, we are having a huge battle with abortion rights in the US, which is my primary concern. What makes prostitution unique? Its a woman deciding what to do with her body. Its not the introduction of mind altering drugs. Its the necessity, or the desire, a woman has to take care of herself. Why is prostitution illegal in almost every state but one? If we took out the "illegal" element and hit the pimps where it hurts, there wouldnt be half the problems

Neither. What I meant is that prostitution is so bad, in part, because of the pimps. Legalizing prostitution would have many benefits for workers. Nevada is hardly what I could call a sex-workers state. Having to pay the brothel half of what they make, then the cab driver who brought the john in 30% of what they charge is hardly what I would call an independent contractor. Not to mention these women cant leave for weeks at a time. In fact, many prostitutes have claimed the brothels are no better than working for a pimp. But, at least they do get tested and the incidence of STDs, including AIDs is low. Im speaking of legalization of prostitution with Sex-workers rights established. Civilizations have tried for centuries to outlaw the practice. Its like butting your head against the wall. It isnt going anywhere. Why not protect the women instead?

I think that has a lot to do with the fact that prostitution isn't actually legal state wide in Nevada....only selected counties,a situation that lends itself to corruption on a local scale....and the taxi drivers enter into because these places are out in the boonies....getting the johns from Vegas out into the sticks where the chicken ranches are located is a service that need to be compensated for.The cabbie can take the fare wherever he "directs" the tourist is the place with the "best woman"

Yeah,local politics is a great breeding ground for all sorts of shady shenanigans in the granting of licenses and such.....absent such bullshit,were it truly legal....a girl could hang out her own shingle so to speak....and keep the proceeds of her labors. But we can't have that,this is America .

We can't really say that a woman's right to do what she wants with her own body ends when you introduce mind altering drugs because then a woman wouldn't have the right to drink alcohol.
