*has insatiable curiosity*...at least about most things...sometimes the phrase "ignorance is bliss" is so very true...like my boss discussing her interests in certain members of the opposite sex...TMI there and the image in my head is enough to scar me for life!

~FR~

There are things that I google.. it may be a word, a phrase, or (since I love the forensic detective shows) a process.

I WONT do it while I am spending time watching a show with someone.. I feel it to be rude to disrupt teh time together to hit the computer.  I wait until after the shows we are sharing.

YMMV.

I am one of those people who gets unbridled pleasure from learning new things. If I become a fan of a show, I am likely to read all kinds of things about it.

I am constantly googling stuff, and I am insatiably curious. I have become used to being around people that are not like me, because most aren't

Same here. My ex-wife called me "the Knowledge nut" because of my appetite for learning new stuff. I acquired a working knowledge of German several years ago becasue of my heritage, and my love of travel. I wanted to go to Germany for an extended visit in 2003 for my 50th b'day, and I wanted to be able to talk to people, rather than be a "guidebook" tourist. I'd have to say I succeeded.

Now, when I travelled, and was in a city where there was a tube system, I'd do what I called "Prairie-dogging"; that is, I'd take the tube to some random place and get out and walk around the area just to see what was there. I'm sort of the same with googling. I'll start out with something specific, but I'll find something in what I'm reading that interests me, and google it, and keep on until I'm somewhere that seems totally unrelated to the original subject.

So I might start off at, say, poppy pods, and go to opioids, to mu receptors, to pain receptors in general, to receptors, to calcium ion channels, to calcium channel blockers, to angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, to hypertension, to anti-hypertensive diets, to the sodium content of prepared foods, to Mediterranean diets, to the health bebefits of seafood, to the crisis of overfisihing, to aquaculture, to sustainable agriculture, to supporting local organic growers, to... you get the idea. This happens all the time.

I love learning stuff. Right now I'm thinking about art, and creativity, and would most of us recognize brilliance if it were right in front of us, unless we were previously informed it (or he or she) was brilliant. I got to the following Joshua Bell vid of him busking incognito in the DC Metro from an article on why debating (or arguing) with true believers using science is pointless. Joshua Bell (hehehe, who knew the Hippie 60s rock/punk drummer dug classical violin, and opera?)

Oh hell I am an inquisitive pain in the butt. I Google allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the time. I cannot even guess how many times a day. Sometimes it's just because I cannot remember anything so have to Google to tickle my brain file.

I am very fortunate to live with someone that has a very good memory, and similar interests for many of the topics that also interest me. Historical stuff is the main fascination, governments, politics, etc. Because of his time spent in the Mid East, I am often asking him then Googling to get even more details.

I wouldn't google it in the middle of the show. If I remembered it after, then I might. But if I'm watching my favorite show, I don't want to constantly interrupt it to look something up.

And as a kid I used to open encyclopedias at random just hoping to find something interesting. It's what I actually dislike about online ones or ones on disks, they don't come with a random button. You can only look things up if you have a keyword which limits you to things you know something about to begin with.

Not meaning to bump this thread, but it just occured to me that I did it again. I was googling Harrison Ford's character in "Blade Runner" and I was at the Paisley Underground band "Green on Red" 's Wiki entry when I had this realization. No idea how I got from there to here.

I do dig the Paisley Underground stuff, especially Mazzy Star, the Long Ryders, Dream Syndicate, Green on Red, Rain Parade, True West, and Rank and File.

And, of course, The Bangles.
