More than that. President doesn't own all the land that we live on. Queen and her family and friends do. She really wanted to dump your ass you'd be gone tomorrow.

I'd give it all back, including the frigging Elgin Marbles if it promoted world peace, but then I am not in a position to do so, for those that beneffiteed from the subjugation of others greedily hang onto their stack, for peace at the cost of wealth is not their interest.

But if ever those that cling ever gain a conscience, next stop, the Vatican vaults.

One could also trouble oneself to verify the propositions given in the article, however much a stretch that may be for some.

This one caught my eye right away:

"- Its protectionist stance on trade issues such as steel and agriculture. "

The steel issue is over and done with, long ago.

And then there are (gasp!) the facts on agricultural subsidies:

http://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/0,1518,621469,00.html

"Anyone who owns large tracts of land -- whether they are forests, meadows or fields -- can also receive huge sums from Brussels. Around €50 billion ($66 billion) are made available each year to subsidize nearly anything that fits into the category of "agriculture."

http://www.nytimes.com/2008/04/23/business/worldbusiness/23iht-farm.4.12281515.html

BERLIN — Despite soaring food prices, Germany's agriculture minister on Wednesday joined France in opposing cuts in the European Union's subsidies to farmers.

Yeah! You tell'em Germany! Tell those Americans (and don't forget the Japanese while your at the hypocrisy) about all those bad ol'e farm subsidies!

You don't say!?

We call it that here too! (minor spelling difference aside).

Good to know we have so much in common.

All I ask is that you admit the point. Our "sins" which there are many pale in comparison to what Europeans have done to the world over the centuries. Own it. Once you do. Discussions are easier.

I'd freely give back Detroit to whomever would take it if it would mean world peace. Call me immediately for the transfer.

Are you sure it's amazement. Maybe you all have just been sucking on that hash pipe for too long. That is what you all do over there, right? That's what I saw on tv.

Haha, Right, there you are.... Jealous aren't you? *grinzzz*

While that may be true  to some degree. We have a society here that tries to rectify past misdeeds. Although I would be the first one to say that past injustices to minorities haven't completel healed at the very least this society addresses those  issues. However, Europe as a whole and as individuals spent the better part of 3 centuries raping and pillaging vast parts of this plant. Securing resources that they wanted and shipping that treasure back to Europe leaving those lands, those people, bereft of any ability to create a functioning society. And last but not least the parting gift from Europe of borders for countries and peoples that weren't and aren't culturally compatible made sure fighting and conflict would ensue on their departure.

The moralistic stance of Europeans without the humility to admit past mistakes is appalling. The washing of hands a la Pontius Pilate of their former colonies is disgusting. Even today France is stopping former colonials from going there as a safe haven from war......

Yep it's a perfect world out there!!!
But what I ment actually, it is how you APPEAR to be. Not how you are.

Why do you think Britons spend so much time apologising for the sins of our ancestors, for we know too well we are disliked because of our history and for that reason, many Britons who also seek to be included in the world also dislike our history, because our history does alienate us.

Ask of the young, the future of this country what they think, and for the most part you will find the young care nothing for flags and ceremony, it's all in the past innit.

Why people hate America. Who cares is the simple answer. That dingdong obama cares... he goes all over the world kissing ass... we are so sensitive to that scum osama to give him a "proper" muslim burial? Guess what? The perpetual rage of the muslim street is still there. We waste too much time on their tender feelings. I'd give my military a month to wreck havoc on afghan and iraq... then say.. there ya go, have a nice day. Instead we play games and build hospitals instead of going after our enemies.

So why post and support articles that you know aren't right? There is enough blame and credit to go around.

Oke, my english spelling skills may not be perfect but I'm working on it. But thanks for correctioning me.....

And all about your statement over Europe? Plz leave it. As most of the Dutch people want to get out of this European Union, get their own currency back. And do not want to contribute to this Agricultural scam. Coz' that is what it is... a scam.

The whole European Union in its existance is a overrated moneyconsuming 9-head dragon btw.

Why people around the world hate America,

A perspective

FR

A sloppy article dated 2001.

WW2, glorification?   Really?   Wow.   Obesity?   Hmm-  funny how the world trends to the obese now.

...I do agree that our foreign policy is medlesome.

Did you also notice I also posted regarding my own country, or is it judging by the amount of hits this and the other thread gained in the few minutes of posting, all eyes on America it seems. Now that could be because of the readership on this website being predominantly American, but then if it is, many Americans were interested enough in the title of the thread to read. In the first few minutes, thirty hits and one posting.

Well it could be that they are assuming we all sound like you. That would explain a lot of the hostility.

What about being condescending? What does that do for your mind? Do you feel better after you have made a post like this? Just a little superior to those chaps across the pond? Come on, be honest, it does, doesn't it.

People hate the US in the west almost as a default position. It is fashionable in the UK and Europe where there is lots of negativity toward the US in the media. The US is no saint (Iraq was wrong etc.) but I reckon this hatred is a consequence of decades of left wing smears against the nation partly with its overreaction to socialism with the red scares/McCarthyism. The US and its massive capitalist wealth represented everything socialists hated. Just scanned the article which focuses a lot on the US breaking the UN and international will. It hasn’t although it does veto a lot. The Arab-Islamic block did that a long ago in the General Assembley, and the OIC has effective control of the UN Human Rights Council like its predecessor http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/42678222/ns/world_news-europe and avoided discussion of the bloody crackdowns by Arab regimes. It shows how bad things have got at the UN when members have to hold meetings in private to try to get the council to move on very basic and obvious issues of abuse. A lot of it is envy. The Americans were portrayed as the big oppressive bully boys in the last half of the 20th Century. They were meddlesome and at times cynical but so were most of the powers at the time. Most importantly the worst atrocities were not their doing except Vietnam of course. The Western colonial powers did indefensible things until relatively recently. France was only pushed out of some of its colonies in the 50’s/60’s often without much grace yet many there sat in judgement of the US. The equivalent with the UK wasn’t much better.

I was merely stating a common feeling around, not pointing.... Said it is amazing, not hatred.
I studied history, so I not need to be pointed out all of those ugly things Dutch did or Europeans did. I know, but I do not ask how you are thinking about us.

There is a question and sometimes I will react, as you do, as anyone else does, when they feel to it.

I never ever mean to offend anyone, If I'd wish to do so, see below.
I once read a statement: If I call you names, realise I'm not suffering Gilles-de-la-Tourettesyndrom.
