You've got to put a little more effort into the search! Due to demand, my local grocers are now supplying some wonderful cheeses and chocolate.

Hell yes they are.

Velveeta and Snickers bars.

You just can't go wrong with that combination.

I can't be arsed to read the thread... but has anyone mentioned American cheese yet?

Or the chocolate for that matter?

Fuck me - You people can innovate the socks off the world, you created the most dynamic, inspirational, positive culture there is, but your cheese and chocolate are shit.
That's because you in all likelihood haven't had any of our good cheese and chocolate. Sonoma Jack and Maytag Blue are world-class, but you won't find them outside the US. Ghirardelli is entry-point good chocolate. Again, you won't find the good stuff outside the US. We consume our good stuff locally.

Next up on the hate list? "US beers are pisswater."

The height of our arrogance....We don't care who hates us!....It's good to be American!

Don't put words in my mouth. If that is the way YOU feel then  YOU own it. Now everyone thinks like you do.

Sorry, I shouldn't speak in generalizations!...Almost all of us don't care who hates us...boi DOES care!...I would always prefer not be disliked until I have proven I truly deserve to be disliked, which is some times pretty quick!...

lmao, you don't know squat about me, but that was a nice try at deflecting.

Which is all well and good if you spend all your life in the US, but if you went abroad and came across people from other nations who had a history of being fucked over by the US, you might think different.

I wonder though, since 2001, what is the status regarding Americans vacationing abroad, is it up or down, and of those vacations, where is not on the list to visit anymore which was in the past.

One of my best friends travels around the world teaching english. When she first started, she was a little nervous because she had heard how the people in other countries hate us. It didn't take her long to find out most of the people she met could care less about us and are just trying to live their own lives.

I haven't seen nor heard of any US cheese and chocolate. No idea they existed. Mind you, I don't eat chocolate, but I do eat a lot of cheese. I was under the impression you eat waffles - always. On the plus side, if it wasn't for your lot we'd have the worst cuisine in the world - there's a claim to fame for you.

And, we would say piss, 'tastes like piss', 'pisswater' isn't a word in our vocabulary.

And, yes, it tastes like piss. And, there isn't a plus side on this occasion.

Why people around the world hate America,

A perspective

Hmmm. On the other side of the coin. There are lots of people in the US that hate non-Americans that happen to be living in the US. You can see that on almost any forum on the web, you can read about it in newspapers and on TV.

It must be only a few year back that the Germans were out in force to catch a glimpse of the present incumbent.

Someone, somewhere likes them.

The Germans and French have this bizarre love-hate relationship with them, quite possibly unrequited; one minute they hate them and the next they love 'em as shown through their newspapers; there's nothing more painful than an unrequited love, I suppose.

Whereas, in all honesty, we're more sort of: "they're alright, nothing special, but not the worst by any means", and it's a fairly constant view. Bush and Obama have been here in the last few years and no one was interested. Doesn't mean they're hated, more that people just aren't interested.

Although were Al Pacino or Robert de Niro to turn up, or any of the plethora of soul musicians that the Americans churn out, then you would have a lot of people out to see them.

Newman's Organic Dark Chocolate is to die for.

I concur with you on Velveeta and Hersheys.

Just pulling your leg, Hippie Kinkster.

We get a lot of American beers over here at our beer festivals, as well as beers from all over the world.

I've been to beer festivals heavily influenced by American, Canadian and Kiwi brewers.

We're a liberal lot, so everyone gets a fair crack of the whip - a la free trade.

You would have to remember that villages up and down England brew their own beer sold only in the village or at beer festivals, and as just about every town in the country has a beer festival, then that's a lot of beers at a lot of festivals; which makes it easy to miss the foreign beers.

Never tasted any of your beers, that's the conservative part of me, but I have read post festival reviews and they are well received.

I will go in search. And... yeah US Beers definitely used to be pisswater, but brewing really has caught on.

I love some of the local and micro-brewed beers. And hot days always make me pine for Sam Adams.

Ah, well, it's hard to tell sometimes. Your humour is so understated. The UK ales we get here are all very good. I just tend to support our indigenous craftsmen, with the exception, in the summer, of Weihenstephener Hefeweissbier. I urge you to try some ouf our brews if you get the chance.

One thing I wish I had near me is a cheesemonger. The closest we have is the cheese deli at Whole Foods. The Whole Foods in North Vancouver, BC. had a section devoted to Canadian cheeses. They were uniformly excellent, and I brought home a good selection for a tasting with friends.

There are quite a few UK cheeses available here, most notably the Neal's Yard cheddars. I've found what I've had to be very good. I need to seek out the excellent ones, the artesanal cheeses.

Good taste knows no borders.

You haven't lived until you've dined at The Waffle House at 4 a.m.after the bars close.

The only thing more enjoyable than the fine cuisine is the wonderfully intellectual conversations that occur at that time of the morning.

TY RML and TY crazyml for the most hilarious exchange I've seen on any forum in a long time.

But just to prove that Americans have more of an international view of things than given credit for, please note the French Toast on the plate there.

I will at some point. We have literally thousands of ales to go at, so we have our hands full with our own lot, but I'll get to yours one day.

Speaking of cheese, it's a serious business over here - plenty of people turn up at festivals with various cheeses to savour combinations of cheese and beer.

Actually, whats more enjoyable is working at the place during those hours and watching the drunks come in to eat then go off to .. ahem. Anyways, I miss those drunks... they never did question a bill.
