Yes. Most of the time. As for posting volatile replies, I try to behave at CM and not have too much fun at another person's expense. Since I rarely cut loose in r/t and let people have it between the eyes, it would be strange to do this frequently online.

Its not the volatility of the topics, it's the replies. There have been quite a few times of late that I've drafted something and thought better of it. And a couple of times when I've edited a post down to nothing because it was not worth the stress.

I know that sometimes in the threads folks see it different of course due to having a different view or due to simply living in a different country with different norms and, as it happened at one topic, being less familiar with managerialism which does play a part in the UK at times when decisions are being taken, lead to ridicioulus arrogant views from some believe-to-know-it-all.

However, it really doesn't bother me when then sometimes people start to show how oh so much smarter they believe to be as quite frankly I am not on here to win a battle about opinions...I say mine, either folks take it or not, it doesn't matter to me either way really.

There was one occassion where I hesitated to open a topic but that then got solved as someone else had opened it already anyway

Do you avoid posting volatile topics or replies?No, I don't (obviously). I calls em how I sees em, and I don't expect everybody to agree.

That said, I have made some posts that, due to my own poor choice of words, got misconstrued. So I've made posts that were volatile w/o meaning to. I sometimes forget that this is not like a cooking or aromatherapy forum, where if something in a post sounds off, people just ask you. I've found it's much easier here to offend people, since (quite naturally) people take how they feel about their personal relationships and personal dynamics so much more seriously.

I don't avoid P & R, some topics I enjoy, though I try to be much more careful in terms of not engaging with those who do not really want to converse. Actual discussion and exchange of ideas interests me, pissing contests, not so much.

I did venture (briefly) in to the Gorean forum, and found that there is little for me to discuss there. I can't get behind the universal "You don't understand, b/c you're not Gorean" argument.

That is for replies. When I have a contentious, difficult issue in my life, I don't start a topic on collarme. I go for a long walk with a friend.

My general rules for posting are:
a) will this contribute in some way
b) is it true to the best of my knowledge
c) is it kind

I have not posted things if they fail on the third criteria... and I have posted things in the heat of the moment that have slipped by the first and/or the third.

It isn't the topics per se that cause me to avoid posting, but my individual responses.

I have a couple topics that are very volatile. They cover some things that world hasn't decided whether or not they should be illegal yet, some of our common beliefs about BDSM that are wrong and the psychology behind our motivation to do what it is that we do. I have written them but not posted, just saved them for later. I looked at them again, rewrote them to soften and neutralize the "bite" I am often accused of putting into my writings. I reread them and they were too wordy and defused. To much focus lost on being PC. Basically, I decided not publish watered down drivel and not to start any fires. I was looking at the folder with these articles when I wondered how many of you wrote something, maybe even saved it, but never published it. Hence this poll.

I've been instructed not to get involved in any threads that are going to be an energy suck, so generally that includes most volatile topics. I have had enough volatility in my life and my common response to that is to deal with it here in r/t, not to seek help online, therefore no reason I would post about it.

no, i don't avoid them at all, i'm drawn to them like a moth to a flame. i rarely worry how what i post is perceived or if i hurt somebody's feelings. how people take my words are their problem not mine. i am naturally sarcastic, rude and intolerant of what i see as stupidity. i guess it shows.

I don't practice Gor (And I kinda think the whole concept is hysterical. I mean, I remember reading the Gor books in the 70's when I was a middle school kid and knowing even then that the writing was just pathetically weak) so I don't even bother going in that section. Any opinion I would have is irrelevent and I have zero experience to share so why bother?

As for the politics, I generally avoid the threads because people get so wing-nutty. There tends to be little actual dialogue and more line drawing and side taking, but that's JMHO. As a rule of thumb in life, I don't waste time arguing with fanatics-I have better things to do with the limited number of breathes I will have in life.

If I'm going to respond to volatile posts, I try to be extremely careful with my wording and facts. These often take quite a while to compose. I write with the knowledge that I will be critiqued.

As a result of the "Gor/feminism" and "Jane Fonda likes alpha men" threads, I've been composing a post regarding feminism to put in P&R but have held back because the waters are quite rough there.

ResidentSadist, I've found you to be quite thoughtful and I think you should post your topics. Feel free to PM with both drafts - perhaps I can help with a compromise between flame-bait and drivel.
