The funny thing is that even when people are rude to me, I typically don't reciprocate their bad behavior.  So I simply ceased all communication with her. 

I also didn't feel that lecturing her would accomplish anything.  She's obviously a racist, and I'm not naive enough to think that I could change that.

To be honest, somebody saying something like "I'm not attracted to <insert ethnic background> females or males" is not something I would consider a racist comment, that's like a guy telling me "Sorry, I'm not attracted to red hair/green eyes/hourglass figure...." - that is a personal preference, fair play, but contacting you and throwing "gross" in, zero tolerance for that, I'd say her fetish was possibly getting free yard work done, if she'd have had any brains and not be blinded by racism, she might have asked to utilize your other talents (you mentioned you work in management), her loss...

I grew up with being called wop and other nice stuff rather frequently, I laugh when friends take the piss and call me a swob (a play on wop - short for Swedish/Italian meatball) but strangers get a rather cold look and communication ceases, and apparently over time I have perfected a glacier laser beam stare that makes people a bit uncomfy, yeah, I feel so sorry for the recipients...

I agree with you about the personal preference thing.  I believe that everyone is free to be attracted to what they are attracted to.  However, it was the "gross" part that she added in that made me feel that she was racist. 

Even if I weren't attracted to redheads, or Asians, or <insert characteristic here>, I would never describe the idea of being with one of them as "gross".  Using that word means that you find that group to be disgusting.  And that goes beyond mere personal preference.  That now takes them into the realm of prejudice.

Perhaps she assumed that you'd get off on insults and that insult in particular. But even if that were true, she was still stupid, deluded, or both, to assume it.

Wow. I'm still stunned. Is it imaginable that she'd say the same thing to you in RT - say, from the other side of a restaurant table?
