Status: offline 		the temples right above my ears and above my forhead and at the crown are itching insainly it's driving me mad. It's not flea's and it's not lice. I had thought it was shampoo residue since I've been madly itchy last week on and off too. but I rinsed completely there was no shampoo at all left on my scalp. And it's not all over itching or all at the same time either, nor is it constant.


Even so I am misreably itchy and re washing hair don't help.

Status: offline 		yeah, it could be.  I am trying not to scratch or dig because it just hurts then. I think there's something called scalpacin that stops itching scalps I have to check for it though.

Status: offline 		Scalpasin will burn like hell. If it is eczema..I found that keeping ur body hydrated really good and moisturized helps alot. And goodness sake....dont scratch!!!!! It will go away..again..assuming it is eczema.

Status: offline 		We're on a well  MsMacomb, the waters not un nessisarily hard I don't think. If the itching happend all the time I could see that, but as it is it's a on and off again thing.


BLKMAdonna it's taking a loooooooooooot of will power not to scratch like a cat with a might sharp need haha but I am trying. I find sometimes ice or cold water sooths.

Status: offline 		What about scabies?  Sounds like it's time to see a doctor.

One last thing you might try, though, is Tea Tree Shampoo by Paul Mitchell.  I used to live with a hairstylist who swore by that stuff for dandruff and other scalp problems.  (He was also the first guy I ever tied up, not that it's relevant to your problem.  Sure was a nice trip down memory lane for me though.)

Status: offline 		I've had scabies before as a little kid. That was my arms and for arms and stuff though. I don't think it is scabies, however if the itching don't stop I will go to the dr.

Status: offline 		have you tried any creams?  Caladryl or Triamcinalone cream sometimes works  Also, try taking benadryl if the itching gets intolerable.  It will help with the itching.  50 mg every 6 hours works well.

Status: offline 		I put hydro cortizone in my hair but it just made it a thick greesey mess I took a bath finally I was so itchy an slimey from the cort ointment.

I'll go take some bendadrill right now though.

Status: offline 		It probably is an allergy, most likely unrelated to anything you actually put on your head, more like something you ate.  But (speaking as someone with severe allergies to just about everything) the best shampoo I have EVER used is Trader Joe's brand called simply Spa Shampoo and Spa Conditioner.  It's mild, unscented, and more gentle than baby shampoo. 
 
Try taking some butterbur if you can find it at a health food store.  Do not combine it with other heavy duty allergy medicines, though.  Also try to drink kefir regularly if you can find it (usually at a health food store, also available online).  It helps restore your floral balance, which believe it or not can REALLY affect your allergies.

Status: offline 		Someone already mentioned Paul Mitchell Tea Tree Oil shampoo...it works wonders.  I do not know what stores are in your area, but if you can get straight tea tree oil you can try massaging it (with your fingertips, not nails) into your scalp.  Is there any kind of rash present or just the itching and burning sensations?

Status: offline 		Tea Tree oil is available at any health store worth its salt and most drug stores now.  Head and Shoulders makes a product called Soothing Lotion for Dry Scalp and it can work wonders, although I would try the tea tree oil first because the Head and Shoulders will only work if it is dry scalp or dandruff not for other things.

Status: offline 		Just another thought, have you considered that it may be dry scalp or dandruff and switched to a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for that? I have dry scalp problems myself and found that using Neutrogena Triple Moisture conditioner and Head and Shoulders for dry scalp shampoo a few times a week takes care of it.  My scalp (and skin) is very sensative and can be irritated by something as simple as going somewhere with a lot of second hand smoke or dust.

Status: offline 		It could be psoriasis. I came down with them a couple of years ago and only recently found out what I have... I now am getting it under control but it was horrible! Do a google search on it and look at the pics to see if your scales are like those in the pictures. Psoriasis can be related to stress or be caused by other triggers (mine is stress related). Status: offline 		I do get scabs from scraching sores, but no rashes just the itching and then the subsequent pain.

Status: offline 		I have dandruff of the eyebrows and up front by the skin but where it itches isn't  whre the dandruff is. I have very oily hair can oily hair and dry scalp exsist in same head?

Status: offline 		peppermint extract shampoo is lovely for an itchy scalp, health food store most likely

other facors that may cause me an itchy scalp - i took too hot of a shower, also, not letting my hair dry through all the way before putting it up, or going to bed, my scalp hates the damp pressed up tight like that.
