siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 3:57:02 PM)

Actually, I'm not grossed out, I'm actually fascinated.  Is it really strange that I want to have seen it?

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 3:59:31 PM)

Yeah but you and I are medical-type people so it's different.

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 4:09:08 PM)

hmmmm, yeah, I guess so, I've just always been that way.  I actually wanted to watch my c-section, I mean, how many times do you get to watch that up close and personal like that? My doctor actually considered it for about 30 seconds before telling me no.  She did let me watch a video of it after though.  It was awesome.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 4:20:41 PM)

I'm exactly the same way. When I had a uterine artery embolisation a few years ago, I watched as much of it as I could. Too fucking cool! A couple of years from now when I have to start getting colonoscopies, I want them to give me enough drugs so I can't feel it and still watch.

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 4:29:34 PM)

I know! I was totally excited about the idea of watching a c-section, but I guess the theory is that if you can see it that you may think you can feel it.  My doctor knows me pretty well so she actually considered it before telling me "no", she told me that most other people she would have said it right from the start (had they think to ask it, which most of them wouldn't).  She did let me watch a video though, which was totally cool (and I know it was me because I recognized the mole on my right leg, and Husband's voice)

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 4:44:29 PM)

That's too bad, I also think it would be way cool to watch. Ah well at least there was a video you could watch.

I may need surgery on my thumb because I have what started out as a trigger finger and turned into just plain fucking painful. I'm totaly psyched (well sort of, I'd rather not have surgery) because apparently it's done in the surgeon's office, which means I can watch.

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/30/2011 7:01:41 PM)

That's pretty cool, I would want to watch that too!

One of my friends is a Surg Tech.  I totally want her job sometimes.

Aaaaaand so, having totally grossed out everyone reading this thread, my work here is done! [:D]

Pffffffft, it would take way more than this thread to gross me out. After all I've seen and done over the years, it wouldn't bother me in the least to eat lunch while watching an autopsy. [:)]

See, I would have issue with that, simply because what if I needed my hands to dig into the body or something? And they had food on them? I don't want to have to take the time to wash my hands!

Husband is reading over my shoulder and just informed me I am a sick freak of nature (said with all the love in the world, of course [:D])

No no no no, I said watching one, and from a distance, not assisting! Plus, I wouldn't want to drop food crumbs in someone's dead body [;)]

As I pointed out to siamsa, we are medical-type people so of course it wouldn't gross us out. However there are a lot of people who read this stuff who aren't and I'll bet we have a good chance of grossing them out with the stuff we've seen and done.

One of my doctors once said that he knew he'd been working in a hospital too long when he was walking through Emerg eating a bag of chips. Someone threw up right in front of him and he just kept eating and walking. With me, it's being able to eat while typing processing doctors notes describing all manner of disgusting stuff.

I guess I am quite a strange little bird, but at least I know I'm not alone! [:D]

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/31/2011 5:24:40 PM)

I think that is quite common with those of us who work in our field. We see/hear about so many gross things, we become desensitized to them.

So, do you have a date for your procedure(s) yet?

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/31/2011 5:27:18 PM)

Not yet.  I am going in for a cleaning on Tuesday and we will schedule things from there.  I think I may have to use my vacation that I had scheduled for the third week of August, which sucks because I wanted to visit my Grandma.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/31/2011 5:43:18 PM)

Would it really be necessary to use up all your vacation time for the work? Maybe you could make a short visit to see her?

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/31/2011 5:46:21 PM)

She lives about 6 hours away (so about 8-9 hours with my preschooler) and I only get 6 days.  1 day for the fillings, 1 for the surgery, they told me I would need at least 2 days to recover and that's most of my vacation.  I'm hoping something will work out, we'll see.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/31/2011 5:51:17 PM)

Only 6 days, that's gotta suck! Okay what if you arrange things so that the 2 days you have left are Thursday and Friday. With the weekend that gives you 4 days with your grandmother, minus travel time home.

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (7/31/2011 5:57:17 PM)

I currently work in retail pharmacy.  I actually get 15 vacation days a year, but I can only take 6 days off at a time.  I don't get weekends off.
I am debating using the time I requested off in September to visit my Grandma, but that was the time I was going to use to visit my dad.  I would like to visit my Grandma much more, but I think it would hurt my dad's feelings if I did that.

siamsa24 -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (8/3/2011 5:10:57 AM)

I spent 2 hours in "the chair" yesterday.
I have a 4+ hour appointment in two weeks.  They are going to do that appointment in one day, which should hopefully give me enough time to visit my Grandma for a few days.
I will have to take some more time off for the possible root canal and surgery, but that's it!
I'm actually only getting 8 fillings! I have gotten as many as 13 done at once, and that was the one where the drugs didn't work so this will be nothing!

AngelicaGoddess -> RE: Trip to the Dentist (not kinky, a serious question) (8/3/2011 5:39:56 AM)

I feel for you! I hate the dentist, I go regularly but have to force myself and usually end up shivering and sweating, finding the right dentist made a big difference, I don't think I'll ever be able to be relaxed even if it's just a check up!

Congratulations on getting the nerve up, I can't imagine how hard it must have been after several years!
