Do you really think that people who smash shop windows and steal goods have political motivation? The guys doing the looting aren't the poor and homeless, watch the footage of it, everywhere, even on the net. Homeless don't tend to wear a lot of branded and new tracksuits and fancy scarfs to hide their faces... The homeless would have sold those things to buy themselves a meal, maybe cigs and booze and would be wearing different stuff. I don't think you need to poll them on that or ask them.

i have contributed money to their legal defense and am helping raise more, i am helping coordinate the action groups via email & text, i am helping others who are trying to get further actions organized for tomorrow.

other than that not much yet, but i am waiting for word back from one group with some details on how i can contribute some money directly to help them with their present expenses. as well i have been in touch with some people here and in the us about seeing if we can get some support protests going, but that isn't looking very promising.

that's what i am doing. what about you? you believe the rioters are wrong, so what are you doing to put the unrest down?

I don't judge people by the clothes they wear, for the record I buy most of mine from charity shops because I'm too fucking cheap to pay a lot of money for jeans I have to break in, this way I get them pre-worn and damned cheap, I couldn't give a shit which label is in them, they need to fit and be comfy, that's how much of a snob I am. But I can't help SEEING how homeless people are dressed and comparing it to the looters, it's simple observation.

Look, the thing is they are doing this in the poor places of the town, they are directing anger against the people who do not have much, burning down houses where people live who barely get by - they're not burning down mansions, they're burning down the places where people live because they can't afford more. If you want to compare it to the French Revolution, it would make as much sense as if they would have stopped marching against Versailles and would have turned round to kill people in the slums.

no, i'm an activist for a political philosophy that promotes the overthrow of the present societal model. when unrest breaks out, it is exploited. i support the aims of some of those exploiting the present unrest, therefore i am supporting their efforts. no different than you making contributions to the campaign of your favorite local candidate, or making a donation to amnesty international.

Yep, it is. But the fundamental problem is that no-one's moral view of the matter makes the blindest bit of difference. Theresa May was on the box wagging her finger and saying, 'There is no excuse for it'. As if the rioters need give a flying shit if they have an excuse from the likes of Theresa May or anyone else. Governments have always made fawning, arselicking accommodations for the wreckers at the top, now they're going to have to do it for those at the bottom, too. They simply have no other choice.

Make kids live in armpit housing estates, put them in shitty jobs, or cut off their benefits, while at the same time pump them constantly with the delights of consumerism - what does anyone seriously expect as a result?

OK, it was fine in the old days, when little groups of disgruntled yobboes could get snapped up by the police in no time. But now it's different - they can organise a riot on their Blackberries in minutes. Back in the 1980s and the Thatcher riots, their were hardly any mobiles around and only the police could communicate quickly through their walkie-talkies.

And the police, now, who themselves are having their resources cut, are losing their morale. At least Thatcher was astute enough to keep the cops onside with their resources and pay packets. Why should they care, now? The vast majority of these rioters will get away with whatever they've done, whatever they've nicked. It'd be laughable to imagine otherwise.

Pfft. Society reaps what it sows. The morals of it all don't matter - these riots are as much a result of the way the system works as is the bankers' greed and selfishness. What is needed now is for people - and the government especially - to take a step back, stop burbling about how people *should* behave, and deal with how people *actually will* behave, given what human nature is.

i support the aims of some of my friends who are trying to exploit the unrest to further their political goals. the people i am helping did not start the riots, they are simply making use of the opportunity they have been presented. and i support them in their efforts.

you say somebody might die, well somebody already did. the state, through their instrument of coercion, the police, started all this by murdering a man. they started the killing, the blood is on their hands.
