That is not the issue, the question raised was one of integrity. Her past as a prostitute was used to counter a statement she made about having integrity. Nobody but you is discussing the wisdom of prostitution as a career choice In fact, if you start a thread discussing that aspect of prostitution, I suspect you will find Hanners arguing your basic point of it being unwise most aggressively and convincingly.

You're sight is skewed. I answered why I thought she didn't have integrity. Did you miss that? I told you that it was based on how she looked at the marks she went after.. she used them in a cold fashion. Her intent. Disregarded them as human beings. so lack of integrity. That then was brought up because she went after Ron Paul's  supposed lack of integrity so I pointed out that we've all fallen from grace now and then. As usual though people miss the lesson because they're focused on defense.

I'm not steering anything. The conversation is moving because of the questions answered. Should I then assume that your directionally motivated. Is that what's happening here..you're focused on defense?

Prostitution is not an act of violence, perpetrated against someone without their consent, and resulting in a complete gain for the one person and a complete loss for the other. It is a trade off, which both parties consent to.

True but neither is burglary and I'm sure we could find a number of other things to fit in place of the violence.

But burglary IS an act perpetrated against someone without their consent that results in a gain for one person and a loss for the other, instead of a trade off. It is NOT consensual, and there is a clear winner and loser.

A better example would be a drug dealer. Both the drug dealer and their customer consent to participate in the transaction. Both believe they are better off afterwards. They both got what they wanted. Nevertheless, there is a stigma involved with being a drug dealer- mostly because it's ILLEGAL.

If you asked me if i thought dealing drugs meant no integrity, i would give the same answer. It depends on the person involved and their circumstances. It could be, but it is not necessarily so.

I guess I didn't understand this poll to be so much about Hannah's integrity, except in terms of context.  I don't quite see why it is becoming so personalized to her.  The question, as I understood it, was does someone (anyone) lack integrity because they were/are a prostitute.  I've never even seen the thread that people are going on about.

Nope, must have missed it, which is odd because I read pretty much everything she writes. Don't suppose you remember what it's called huh.

Doh..ya Fucktard. [:D]

I know some of you are Pro-Hannah and no matter what shit she spews out..She has a vagina so it makes the shit pure gold.

I don't hold it against you..just pointing out I'm aware of it.

(Would that mean that he's saying everything that touches Hannah's vagina would turn to gold...not literally for those that are mentally impaired.)

~smacks the shit out of Icarys~ I just happen to like the way she writes. It's refreshing when someone says what they really think instead of spewing bullshit.

Is it any freaking shock that she doesn't take most 'men' seriously?

We went through this sort of on the thread she voiced she was at one time a prostitute on. She, although has seen a lot of men and maybe a lot of bad from them hasn't seen the whole male race.

It's not a shock but it still isn't excusable. I would think her logic would tell her different.

You've never seen me state that all women are stupid and surely mean it. (I might have said it on the forum to uhhh poke a stick) Not only would that go against what I believe on a personal level but it would also go against logic. I really wouldn't be gender specific in that case anyway..I find a lot of people do some really stupid shit.

Mostly because Icarys and I keep making it about her. [:D]

He's still mad because she dissed his favorite candidate, and I'm still mad because he was a douchecanoe about it. I'll stop derailing now.

I have these things I value lots, independence, freedom of thought/expression/belief. But I also like things like heat, and having some spare cash in the bank, and credit cards in case of emergencies, and being able to maybe one day send any potential kids (Oh those poor bastards) to college. You know, like live a decent life.

You can have all of those things (you really don't need that much cash if any depending on how you're willing to live) and more personal freedom without having to sacrifice..at least what I call it anyway.

I was giving an example. We all sacrifice. Every day, in some small way, we cut corners on our integrity. When that cocksucker cuts me off and I don't blow his head off I'm making a sacrifice (A Hobbesian one, but a sacrifice nonetheless). When I show up at a family thing when I would rather be in bed or when I go to work instead of heading to Lollapalooza, I'm bending my fiercely independent ideals. Hell, when I pay my freaking taxes (That my money is mineminemine and you can't have any) I betray my values, but I prefer it to the alternative*

And any fool who stands up here all blahblahblah and says they've never sold their values is completely full of it.

* There's a great Thoreau story about this. "Because he detested slavery and because tax revenues contributed to the support of it, Thoreau decided to become a tax rebel. There were no income taxes and Thoreau did not own enough land to worry about property taxes; but there was the hated poll tax — a capital tax levied equally on all adults within a community. Thoreau declined to pay the tax and so, in July 1846, he was arrested and jailed. He was supposed to remain in jail until a fine was paid which he also declined to pay.
At this point, Thoreau's great and learned friend Ralph Waldo Emerson went to visit Henry in jail. "According to some accounts, Emerson visited Thoreau in jail and asked, “Henry, what are you doing in there?” Thoreau replied, “Waldo, the question is what are you doing out there?”"
Kapow.

Good.  Because it really is an interesting question, on a general and not an individual basis.  And I didn't know prostitution was legal in Canada, so it has been a learning experience too.

I'm not mad heather. I was annoyed because she was "spewing" what I thought was bullshit without actually taking a solid look at the guy. So I pointed out her failings as I saw them.

I've got some work to do before it gets dark here..Been fun. [:D]

i don't understand Your point, then. Regardless of whether Hannah showed lack of integrity as a prostitute, we have all fallen from grace now and then: You, me, Ron Paul, Hannah, everyone. We have all acted without integrity at some point or other. Why should that automatically discredit everything the person does or says, forever?

That's actually a good point. It applies to any profession, if one sees it as detrimental to oneself yet continues with it just for the money, I would say it calls into question one's integrity.
The question then becomes "At what point does the person in question come to this realization?" That becomes the determining factor in judging the person's integrity by this measure.

E2A: Especially if it is seen as morally or ethically detrimental.

No. I am saying we have intentionally and knowingly sold it.

And, as far as Hannah, or for that matter, any other prostitute I've met, the only question that reflects on her integrity is did you conduct in a forthright fair manner. In other words, were you a rip off skeeze artist or a gal who put out what was paid for?
