I wish someone would explain to me the difference between a woman who gives it up for an hour for $50 and a woman who gives it up for a lifetime for a nice car and clothes and vacations.

The prostitute can't divorce you and get alimony.

I'm not diggin the skin flash but you really are pretty winnie. I like the new pic.

Fixed it for you [;)]  And thank you.

gungadin09 -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:06:00 PM)

i didn't pick, because the option i wanted wasn't there. So here's my answer:

1. Prostitution means lack of integrity ONLY if it means that to the person who's doing it. i think the same thing about pro-Dommes and strippers. Personally, it's not something i would choose to do. But does engaging in it necessarily mean a person has compromised their integrity? That depends on the person and how they define their integrity. If i did it, i would see it as a compromise.

2. Personally, i would like to see prostitution legalised. i think that would make it safer and would perhaps eliminate the stigma that it carries.

3. The argument gets complicated further when you consider what drives people to prostitution, and what their other options are.

4. Integrity isn't a question of all-or-nothing. You have integrity (or do not have it) by degree.

5. Finally, the argument that because you were a prostitute everything you say MUST be wrong, since once you compromise your integrity as a prostitute you cannot POSSIBLY show integrity ever again, and everything you say and do from that moment MUST be completely dishonest and unethical, and so it's not necessary to take you seriously or give weight to anything that you say... well, that's just silly, isn't it?

And it's STILL silly if you really do see turning tricks as compromising your integrity, which, i take it, you do NOT. This idea that once a person does something unethical they're a completely unethical person from that moment on and can never redeem themselves... by that definition NONE of us have integrity. Who hasn't, at some point or other, done something that went against their belief's?

So my answer is:
Prostitution doesn't necessarily mean compromising your integrity. And compromising your integrity doesn't necessarily mean you can never be believed or taken seriously again.

It wouldn't be something I'd like to do, but to be honest, if another woman has no problem with it, I wouldn't question her integrity, I'd find it presumptuous to tell another woman what she can do with her body, it's her choice, it might not be mine but then a lot of things that are not for me aren't wrong or make others bad or lacking in integrity.
How easy would it have been for Hannah to not talk about her past? She was open about it, that alone shows quite a bit of integrity.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:07:20 PM)

~scratches head~ I honestly don't see what one has to do with the other. Did he give you any details on why he believes that?

Me personally , I wouldn't care. But people judge you by your profession. Who here trust a used car salesman?

Although most would look at it the same way they did alcohol. When illegal it was evil. And so was anybody that had anything to do with it. But now? Pass the beer.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:17:51 PM)

His reply when Hanners commented that she found it interesting that he equated prostitution with a lack of integrity was as follows:
quote:

My thoughts on it are more complex than you might be able to see. I think it does damage to the fabric of peoples minds, yours is a case in point. You have a real shitty outlook on the men who came to you..You might not have seen that and ,may have lived a more peaceful and pleasant life. I also see it as a right if a person wants to do such a thing..morally speaking I see it as wrong which I eluded to above because it has a propensity to damage ones soul. I can see many sideds to it but the bottom line..on a personal level I don't agree with it even if I agree it should be passed into law.

It gets more complicated than that but that's about the fill of it.

You are seriously fucked, though and your life will ever be changed in ways that probably aren't very healthy for you.

Were you a Vegas hooker?
Which, unfortunately, doesn't really explain things at all.

zephyroftheNorth -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:21:16 PM)

Thanks Heather. That's really fucked up, geez could he be a little more judgmental? How would he know what her attitude towards her customers was? What a fucktard!

RML so married women dont have STD's??
I heartily disagree
mind you when I was doing the statistics it was a lot to do with the hubby passing them on, but that was a few years ago(omg 25year, sheeit).

Come on Lucy, let's be realistic.

Who is more likely to have an STD?

I think it would be the woman who sleeps with several strangers every night.

littlewonder -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:23:38 PM)

it depends on why they chose to be a prostitute, their feelings towards those who frequent them, their outlook on life, how they go about running their business.

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:23:44 PM)

FR
I would like to point out, that in the particular case in question, the prostitution was done in a country where it is legal, so the idea of it showing a lack of integrity because it is illegal isn't really germane .

How about by reading any of the posts where she's talked about them?  It's not like she's made a secret of what she thinks about them.  However, post hoc ergo propter hoc is a common logical fallacy and should not be confused for veracity in debate.

Ask me a straight question.

Do I think all hookers are bad. Nope
Do I think They all have integrity. Nope
Do I think it should be legalized.  Yes and No..
Do I think the way Hannah explained her approach was lacking in integrity. Yes because of the disregard for the human she had and look at her shitty outlook.

Hehehe. Nope.

Prostitution is not an act of violence, perpetrated against someone without their consent, and resulting in a complete gain for the one person and a complete loss for the other. It is a trade off, which both parties consent to.

Whether or not it shows a lack of integrity to exchange sex for money, or to break the law, depends on the person and their circumstances.

Nope.  I recall several scattered around General and OT.

LaTigresse -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:30:58 PM)

Opinions about customers whether positive or negative does not have anything to do with the level of service they get or the integrity with which they get it.

Where I work I intensely dislike a great deal about a co-worker, one of the people that works for another company in the same building that is at times a customer or vendor depending on the issue, and there are more than a few customers I cannot stand........for various reasons. None of that has anything to do with the service they get or their satisfaction. It certainly has nothing to do with my personal integrity! If anything, the fact that they are repeat customers, speaks well for my integrity......and acting skills.[:D]

HeatherMcLeather -> RE: prostitution/integrity poll (8/18/2011 2:31:36 PM)

Oh, that's not in question, Hanners started a thread a while back where she said in no uncertain terms that she despised them, and that she has a very jaded view of men in general as a result, which is something she knows is unjustified and is working through. Hanners has never maintained that that whole period of her life was anything but one huge colossal mistake, one which has messed her up enormously. Sorry, I thought pretty much everybody remembered that thread, it was a glorious trainwreck.
